My Mister is a masterpiece. It's still my all-time number one Kdrama. And I didn't know she was sick to the point of dropping out of the production midshoot; because for someone who is diligent and beyond hardworking like IU to even think about dropping the work means she was extremely ill mentally and physically.
I wish eveyone would see My Mister.

All I have to say is thank god!!! she overcame this difficult period. This drama was really something special, definitely a classic to be talked about for many years to come. I don't think it would have been without her. Also great that she had a considerate director. Usually filming schedules are very tight and demanding, he really is an angel for accommodating it for her and stepping away from the system's design.

나의 아저씨란 드라마와 아이유에 대해 잘 알고 있다고 생각했었는데, 아이유가 드라마를 찍으면서 저런 사연이 있는지 까지는 정말 몰랐었네요.
아이유가 이 드라마로 그렇게 상을 많이 받은 줄도 몰랐었지만, 저렇게 가슴아프도록 안타까운 속사정이 있는 줄도 까맣게 몰랐습니다.
오늘도 할아버지 덕분에, 제가 가장 좋아하는 드라마의 감동적인 뒷이야기를 알 수 있게 되어서 더욱 기쁘기 그지 없습니다. ^^

Director Koreeda who cast IU in Broker after seeing her in My Mister said that he was surprised that she could act with such an infinite amount of self control/restraint throughout the whole drama.

Thank you for this. Like you, I LOVED this drama. My all-time favorite. I wish I was better at influencing others to watch it. IU was fantastic. Lee Sun-kyun was amazing. The entire cast, really. The story, the music, all of it. I really appreciate the backstory about IU.

Wow so good to see an acceptance speech at an awards show that was only talking about the subject matter and not going on about some political point of view !
If the US etc went back to that then I think more people would start watching those award shows again :)

한국에서 "나의 아저씨"라는 드라마가 제작되고 있다고 처음으로 언론에서 발표가 났을때 많은 사람들이 비난했었습니다. 왜냐하면 주연이 사십대중반의 이선균씨와 이십대여성인 아이유였기때문입니다.
어린 여자를 성적대상화 하는 나이많은 남자에 대한 경멸의 시선이 있었고, 그래서 실제 내용을 알지 못했음에도 여성유저가 많은 커뮤니티에서 드라마에 대한 비난이 격렬했습니다.
온갖 비난이 드라마 제작자와 주연인 아이유에게 쏟아졌고 당시 아이유의 몸상태가 안좋았던것도 정신적인 스트레스가 큰 영향을 미쳤을거 같다는 생각이 듭니다.
배경 정보를 제공해 주셔서 감사합니다.
드라마의 내용을 제대로 인지하지도 않고 무턱대고 악플 다는 사람들 정말 이해가 안 돼. 문제는 여전히 사람들이 똑같은 짓을 한다는 거죠. 정말로 답답하네요.
그래서 페미니즘은 정신병이란 소리를 듣게 되었죠. 모순적이고 무지성 집단. 연상녀와 연하남 커플엔 열광하고 실제 나이차이 나는 결혼커플에게까지 저주를 퍼붓던 괴물들
As a viewer, My Mister was a very good drama, but it was also depressing to watch. Watching the drama made my already depressed self even more depressed. It's not surprising that IU experienced difficulties with her mental health during filming. I imagine it must be extra difficult for her to inhabit that character. But I'm glad things have turned out this way. I hope she won't struggle with coping if she accepts similar roles in the future.
And yet, as difficult as it was to watch, I was uplifted by how it ended. It showed 2 people saving one another through love, kindness and friendship. It was hard to watch but left me feeling good about people and life.
