    this shouldnt have happened maybe bad quality part or instalation... my 2.2 jts is from 2007 , i own it for 5 years and never had any problems with oil leaks... except from rocker cover gasket wich was an easy job.. PS: i always enjoy watching you work on the car

      Hi Meran, Thank you for taking your time to watch! I have changed this part before due to poor installation, maybe this time it was a bad seal. It did popped out easily as you can see in the video. Yeah you are right, it should be a very secure part that doesn’t need much care. Well, i hoped this time would be good since I put it in myself. The last 2 times were done by others and had problems. Thank you again!

    Hey,
    Thank you!
    I finally found the problem why my engine is losing oil and why the engine is not running well and is making noise...can you give me the part number for the seals or a link?
    I would be very happy, thank you!

      Hi Paolo,
      Thank you for watching my videos.
      The part I bought was a brand called Victor Reinz part number 81-33489-10.
      Google it and you should be able to find compatible brands too.
      The other part is the pulley that I pulled out. The rubber insert in the pulley will wear over time. So I suggest you change both together.
      The part is 537123424. I bought a OEM part from Dorman 594309.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi, my car is running smooth, no check engine light, but when i scan with obd there is an intermittent fault stored. P0016, EXHAUST phaser revv. Any guess on this. Car has done only 45k kms and no timing sound, no misfire, no starting issue.

      Hello,
      Thank you for watching my videos.
      A few things you can look at,
      First, the position sensors for the cams. They are located under the plastic cover near the fuel line side.
      Second, the cam phaser actuator solenoids. They help shift the cam phase like what people know as Vtec or VVTI.
      They are located inside under the engine cover together with the spark plugs and coil pack. Right on top of piston 1.
      There are two, intake and exhaust, same goes with the position sensors.
      Thirdly, could be a slag timing chain which causes the cams to be slightly out of phase.
      Most likely could be the second one, they could get clod up. If you are driving slowly, they don’t actuate, but when rev up high they will actuate to shift the cam phases.
      Change both and you will feel more power when you rev up. You can look for AC delco brand which are quite good.

    Hi Elgin, thanks for the informative video. Please may I know how long the leak was before you replaced the seal? Was the pulley and belt coated with oil due to the leak?

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi FoxOkinawa,
      Please replace it as soon as it leaks! The oil will coat the belts and the belts will snap after a while as oil is not friendly to belts. My power steering belt snapped as I didn't have an extra belt to change when the seal was replaced. So change the seal and the belts at the same time.

      @@ElginLim Hi Elgin, Thanks for the prompt reply. For the tensioner, is it okay to just replace the pulley and not the entire tensioner assembly? You replace it because of mileage (how many km) or oil contamination? Since the tensioner is a mechanical part (spring), can it be cleaned? Appreciate your advice. ☺

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hey FoxOkinawa,
      Sorry that I have missed this comment.
      This part comes as an entire tensioner assembly.
      I have replaced this a few times, mostly due to periodic maintenance. The last was because there was sound coming out of the bearing.
      Usually its is replaced together with the belts about 70-100k km.
      It can be cleaned but would rather replace the whole assembly. The spring is under fatigue load for a long time so changing the whole assembly is better.
      Cheers! Hope this helps.

    Are the Selespeed gearbox reliable on the 2.2?

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes. If it is very well maintained. Changing of the selespeed fluid and clutch fluid is a must minimum every 6 months.
      I did a change of seals and all the critical components. It has been 6-7 years now.
      There are 3 main parts to the selespeed system. All must work together including the clutch.

    That is unfortunate. What is the brand of the seal that had leaked?
    Wow, no rust on the subframe. Brand new, or no rust problems in your country?
    I am now looking to buy Brera 2.2 JTS or 159 1.75 TBi. But the Brera I went to take a look at is in a bad condition. And the only 159 1.75 TBi was sold before I had time to see it. Now there is only 159 2.2 JTS Ti berlina, black like yours. But I am worried about the rusty bolts in the engine compartment that I see on the photos, and since it is (just like that Brera) from Switzerland, that it will have rusted out subframe. I did not go to see that one yet. I would prefer a 1.75 TBi.

    • @ElginLim
      @ElginLim  Před rokem +1

      Hi Dash Cam Serbia,
      Can’t remember the brand of the seal, looks ok when I took it out. Seems a bit loose. Let’s see how it goes.
      There is no rust problems here in Singapore. Roads are clean and no salt. It is the original subframe.
      The 1750 TBi would be a better choice. Bosch has stopped making fuel injectors for the 2.2 JTS so you can’t find new and have to get refurbished ones. The fuel injectors will fail around 150,000km so have to beware if you are looking to buy one.
      Rusty bolts can be changed but subframe has to be in good shape before you commit.
      Thank you so much for watching my video! Hope you enjoyed it!

      @@ElginLim Thanks man. The rusty bolts are a good indicator that the car was in the area affected by corrosion. Anyway, this 159 was crashed frontally, so I will not be buying it. Still searching, but it is a small market here...
