OUTSTANDING AF!!! JTL Reporting for mandatory watch duty on Sunday 03.26.23 at 1030 - "Like" #359
Thanks for posting!!
@Corporals Corner
Wow Shawn, you weren't kidding about the swamp!
I had no clue although maybe you'd mentioned how the water could come up on that part of your property.
A possibility dumb question, when warmer weather comes along, any plans for skeeters & other nasty flying creatures?
I forgot what you had some vids ago to keep them away & whatever it was seemed effective.
Just hope it's really ultra effective for the really rambunctious ones who're hell bent for leather about feasting on you or any of us who deal with that issue!
Over where I am, some of those flying vampires treat DEET like it's salad dressing or maybe cake frosting for all intents & purposes!
"Walking a straight line, good." Sir....are you....a police officer?
@Corporals Corner
For lateral drift even with a compass, there was a place past Chelmsford MA. going towards Billerica known as "Dudley Road".
This was ( & as far as I'm concerned IS) reputed to have all sorts of "Paranormal" things including if you go there by vehicle, there's a good possibility your car or whatever never is in the same spot you left it even if you use landmarks.
I kind of wonder if the same thing happens with the "Bridgewater Triangle" area?
I've never been out there but the whole history including that area of Fall River is pretty spooky.
I guess the question becomes what happens if you can't rely on your compass or landmarks from them on?

Even being sober, I could never really do a fully straight line to save my butt.
My left foot / leg has always had some weirdo issue.
Even when I walk, my feet go like this ->
\ / so, they make a "V" in stuff like snow or sand.
I still get from point A to wherever though.
It’s ok to not build a new shelter every video, go for it , reuse your shelters and do some skills and bushcraft along with one of your kool recipes
I'm completely ok with this as well!
Amen.
I’m in on this too. Build, use, improve, explore different scenarios, lessons, training, real life shit man. Love it.
Absolutely!!!!! Great video, you have soooo much more knowledge than just building shelters.
Way to change it up. If you keep going with the shelter builds your gonna have start charging the homeless rent.😂
One thing I’ve always appreciated about this channel is the simplicity. Too many people over complicate things. You sir are not one of those people. Thanks for the video. Keep ‘em coming! ❤️
Salute, 🍷 🇮🇹
Great job Marine. Basics and dependability. It is nice to know I can count on your content to be there. If someone gives any flak about you teaching land nav, or doing it by the numbers, they can silence that noise. They can say that there are a thousand videos on this topic, they can silence that noise too. Every NCO understands the importance of hip pocket training. Every service member who sits in the class and acts bored, most of the time is not capable of doing the land nav in practice. It doesn't matter if you take the class 300 times, if you still can't do it. If everyone was able to, then we wouldn't continue teaching it. Outstanding dedication to the principles of survival. Also people need to realise, just because they have heard a class before, does not mean that there is nothing to learn. Every instructor has a different way of instructing. Different people learn different ways. I myself have taught this class hundreds of times. I have sat through this class taught by others hundreds of times. I still sat here and listened to your class and enjoyed the instruction. Your content has me looking forward to Sunday releases. I also look for your Wednesday shorts. If it ain't rainin' we ain't training. You do a great job.
That was the best run down of the use of that compass that I have seen! Most people get lost in their own minutiae, and thus lose their students along the way. You were able to stay on track. Good job 👍🏼
Your skills are unmatched man, you motivate the hell outta me!
Yep. Dude is definitely highly skilled
Now that is how you do it.
Weather doesn't cooperate. Improvise, adapt, overcome.
Hmmm where have I heard that before? LOL
You are NOT a 'dumb' grunt! You are one of the smartest grunts I know!
I am incredibly dyslexic. This is the first time I have ever felt like I could go out and successfully use a compass to find my way around. Thank you for what you do to educate people on life skills.
Compass lesson was awesome , more of that kind of stuff will be cool from time to time
Going back to basics always makes a great video. Most of us out here don't use these skills enough to be proficient. So I always welcome new lessons on basic skills. Keep them coming. Born to be Basic. Thanks Marine.
I always have enjoyed the land navigation, I've been using maps and a compass since I was 12 years old.
Then the Marine Corps taught me more on the subject. Great job, keep up the good work.
If it ain't raining....and flooded it's not training. Great annual refresher. Now to bacon salad and season the pan. ;)
30 minute video, hell yes! Appreciate you not skipping on the video. Outstanding as always.
Hi Corporal,
Thank you for this interesting refresher course.
Kind regards
Alain
I am just happy to see you had a comfortable place to sleep for a change, cuz there’s NO WAY that I could sleep on the beds you make out of wood to be off the ground❗️And I enjoy 😉 watching anything you do so I don’t care 🤷🏻♀️ if you build/or make a shelter❗️Having said that, I have to admit Corporal that I almost fell asleep watching due to the sounds of the rain, and I loved 🥰 it tremendously❗️Lol 😁
Thanks 🙏🏻 for ALL you do to teach us skills to survive in a bug out situation, and God bless 🤲🏻 you too❣️ 🇺🇸😍🇺🇸
Got my notification. Watching now. Corp Kelly for President.
Great classroom/ overnight in the "swamp". Years ago, my wife and I located our property markers using my old military compass. She learned some things and I remembered some..but found out our surveyor was dead on with his markers on our 20 acres.. please do some fishing there while it's flooded.
Stay safe Cpl.
Every good NCO has a “hip pocket” class when there’s a little down time. Great job Corporal!
This is an area I’m not strong in but need/want to be. Thank you Sir for truly simplifying this topic. This, hands down has made the most sense ever! I’ll need to watch this a bunch more times and then get out and practice. Thank you for the content, great camera work, and presenting in a relatable way.
Thank you so much for posting another weekly lesson despite the challenges you’ve faced on your end. I remember a similar situation you shared concerning your basement and despite the inconvenience, you still delivered. It’s truly inspiring; love your work!
Love the class format! Can’t wait for more videos like this!
I loved the land nav refresher. You don’t realize how much of a useful skill you forget when you hardly ever use it. Thank you
Loved... loved... LOVED the compas instruction; this expanded on what I took in middle school and is one of the best indicators someone knows what they're doing!
💚 💚 💚 from 🇮🇹
Certainly like a swamp now around the watch out but it makes it more awesome like something out the movie.
Thank you Corporal for your steadfast commitment to us, your followers and supporters…
Dude, this is the kind of stuff that got me watching your channel. Dollar Store Survival Items, knots, skills.......loved those old videos. Great video!
I love these hip pocket training videos and you are an excellent teacher
Thank you! This was fantastic!
Education and entertainment! This is why I love your channel. Watching you build different shelters is very cool, dont get me wrong, but the thing that I love most about this channel is the wealth of knowledge that you bring, and your willingness to share. I love the idea of the online classroom, and I, for one, would pay for lessons like these in the comfort of my own home. Thank you again for your willingness to persevere with these weekly videos. They mean a lot to your faithful fans like me. As for your Forerunner, and the plans you have, I can only hope that they will rival your Rocky Mountain video, which is one of my favorites. Thank you again, sir!
Cpl Kelly...THANK YOU for teaching me the difference between the two compasses in this video. I didn't know there was a difference and the lateral drifts, three type of north, and hotdog earth cracked me up 😂...just awesome. You are the Man!
Land nav is an overlooked skill. No school like old school; skills are always valuable. Keep up your great work
It’s not the video you wanted but it’s the video we got. Still valuable, excellent job. Maybe you could incorporate a few minute basic how to during your outings.
Thank you, Corp. for the unwasted opportunity to give a lesson that could literally be the difference between life and death for someone who ends up lost in the wilds.
This is a good refresher for old GI’s, and a good primer for new woodsmen.
Classic hip-pocket class! Something to pivot to when the weather makes other plans untenable. Nice job, Devil, and thanks for the refresher.
Learning out to survive the rain and a camp under water is genious.
A outstanding awesome video again Shawn
I have watched those compass videos many times already but I love this. Best of both worlds. Teaching and over nighter. This should be the new format of each video !!! Love it
Love this format of solo overnight with a school session!
Time to invest in that Great Canadian Conveyance : the Canoe.
That Navigation lesson brought back memories.
Well Done, Thank You and
Carry on Corporal!
Great refresher course on land nav. I appreciated it. Mental tools are just as important as physical tools.
Great tips and cool shelter. I'd name that shelter the mosquito house though, because in my area, that bad boy would be hidden from view within the cloud of mosquitoes 😂
It doesn’t matter which way you go with your videos we all will be here to watch and like them👍👍👍
Rob from Australia
I'm glad you showed this. I've been wondering how this was going to do in the wet seasons. I've loved your skills videos and go back to them frequently.
I enjoyed the change of pace. It’s been 45 years since I became proficient in the use of a compass so a refresher is great. Thanks for getting back to rib-eye it gave me inspiration for a dish tonight!
By far one of my favorite videos so far. As much as i love watching build videos, I love skills videos. Please do more.
Cpl. Kelly, You Are The Master Woodsman and Bushcrafter and passing on the Craft. Tim L.
I wish you were my teacher in our survival camp in school with a compass. Our group wouldn't have got completely lost in the woods.
Think it's good to have a place to get out and if for nothing else relax. Or use as a classroom! Awesome
May not be the video I expected, but still fun to watch. I always like to see older builds come back when other stuff is not possible.
Im here for it! No matter if it's a build video, skills video, or cooking video. Much respect for all of your time and hard work.
Think it's cool as hell your using the cabin,
Nice man, keep it going! I’m gonna watch your videos for the next 14 years, no matter what.
Greeting from Germany 🇩🇪
Another excellent and amazing episode Kelly! Thank you for everything you do for those of us addicted to your videos! Every single episode either teaches something new, reaffirms skills already learned, something. We always learn something from every single video you post. Skills that can save lives and make lives better if/when SHTF. Again, thank you for all you do.
These types of videos keep me coming back!
Turns out I did need a refresher course. Thank you.
Great information on Land Navigation 👍
Rib eye way over cooked! Pull your rib eye out of the pan while you get the potatoes going.
I will cook it the way I want
@Corporals Corner haha
@@lonewolfmcquade105 are you a chatbot?
Glad you are here to stay! I enjoy learning more skills with you!
Dang. You poured two minutes worth of coffee. Jokes aside, this probably one of the best compass explanations I’ve seen.
Hello my dear friend! Good job ! I built a bunker too, you can take a look when you have time. Thank you 🤝
as usual loads of good info keep on going Corporal
Like a bazillion years ago FM 3-25.26 was one of my gospels. After I retired I ran across a special edition of The American Practical Navigator, which gave the best, most easily understood written instruction on map and compass I ever read.
Want to add to your warning about drifting off your azimuth - beware of "contouring" or unconsciously level-walking along a contour line. Happened to us once at Benning when us sergeants stupidly let a new 2LT lead our company on a X-country march. My highly experienced Pathfinder Platoon Sergeant took over and un-F'd the situation.
Real happy that this video is back to 30 minutes. Sincerely, good luck with that. Thanks, Sean.
I did not wake up this morning thinking I wish I knew how to use a compass, but I'll go to sleep with a new skill tonight! Thank you for the unexpected, but very interesting class!
What a wet spot! Thanks for taking us along. As usual, great food! No such thing as a bad video 😊
Absolutely. I've never seen a bad video on this channel!
Great video and info for shooting on the fly!! I needed some brushing up on compass use! Use it or lose it.....keep reminding myself of this!!!
I live in Missouri with the Mississippi River to the east and Ozarks to the south. With all the water, that cabin takes me back to all the hillbilly shacks you can see in the deep woods only with Hilton Hotel building quality. Thank you for a skills video on navigation. Such an underappreciated skill.
I learn from every video you’ve posted, really glad ur here to stay. Thank you for your service and doing what u do.
Thanks for the compass refresher!!! Sweet swamp cabin too. Till next week, stay safe. Later.
Hot damn it's Corporal time!
dude. dont worry bout “what kind” of video to make. this is amazing info. no bullshit. all function. 👍
Great refresher class. I think we forget about of the basics with having this computer in our back pockets
Marsh Lords unite... I love it...
Talk about adapt & overcome. 🇺🇲👍
It's been 16+ years since I've sat and listened to a land nav presentation. Loved this.
Teaching my Scouts how not to get lost or not to rely on a map alone is always challenging. I like your breakdown to get used to aspect of navigation so I will do this next time.
YES THIS Corpral is the best for teaching juveniles to navigate . Salute, 🇮🇹 💚
Good talk great info Thank you
This is good. Navigation is a very perishable skill for me. Thanks for focusing on the main things here.
Again, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Sunday isn't Sunday without you and your knowledge. Salute!!!🫡🫡🫡
We learned all this back in the late 60's in the boy scouts, an it amazes me how many people don't know this, it is really simple in my book. Thx for the vid Corporal
What a bad ass class today. Really cool way to learn the basics of a compass, the degrees and directions.. I will start practicing more. Thank you 👍⭐⭐⭐
i make it a point to watch every video upon release, i must say, you have a gift. the ability you have to explain and show case skills in my opinion is unparalleled on CZcams in relation to survival, bushcraft etc. i greatly appreciate your channel and have learned so much. most people would make you pay money to watch a video like this teaching things, you are not like most youtubers, again i thank you for your content.
Bro!! That was one of the best compass comparisons I have EVER seen.
Best ever ambient sounds to sleep to. I love living on swampy land😉
I'm glad to see you staying in the cabin. I like you mixing it up. I also like reviewing navigation. I think this is a great video.
Good morning Shawn ☕️ Though this was not your planned or intended vid for the week, this was an excellent class - we all need refreshers and reminders of skillsets like Land Nav and compass operations. I appreciate your teaching style.
The cabin looks great 👍🏼 Sage foresight to make it a raised shelter. You might have to pull a Noah’s Ark with all your woodland critters If the water raises any higher 😂
Have a great week 🍻
-Scottie, TLBSS&B
I haven't used a compass in about 40 years, this video brought back great memories of when I used to hike and needed the compass. I am about to turn 62 on the 1st of April and I only found out two weeks ago that you can actually use an analogue watch as a compass too. They may say you can't teach old dogs new tricks but this old dog is still learning new stuff. Thanks for the refresher and something new to me was all the terminology. Take care.
Very good video I'm fifty-two been in the woods my whole life very good video people should appreciate stuff like this
hey back to basics is not a bad thing, the mission continues... nice job
Great video! I've a pretty good internal compass, but it was really interesting learning the basics of compass use.
03s rule! If a grunt can’t do it, no one can! Semper Fi!
Glad you didn't build another shelter. You kicked back and enjoyed the cabin you built. I did to a long with compass lesson
Good stuff, can’t wait till you start road tripping.
Thanks given to you. This video meant so much to me. It brought me back maybe 35 years when I first learned this stuff. I think you explained it very well.
Please keep on keeping on doing what you do, from one Corporal to another.
Royal Air Force Regiment, Per Ardua Ad Astra.
Dude that's the spot right there, two more chairs a deck of cards and a bottle of whiskey and you're in business. Maybe a dart board 😅Wish I could chill with you brother, you're awesome keep it up!!!
Thanks for the Land Nav refresher.
💛
Lol i sat here with my compass and followed along just because im a little rusty in land nav. Great class.
Me too.
The skill “refreshers” videos get my vote!
Enjoyed the Land Navigation Class with the MC-2g Compass. Made sense to me. Thanks for sharing and keep helping us with our woodsmanship skills.
Just don't understand why so many saying they aren't getting your videos. I get each and every one that you drop...I have no problem with them showing up in my feed. Never had one that doesn't show up since I've subscribed. Just don't understand why others are having so much trouble in getting the videos you put up.
