HE ALSO RACE IN THE ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA FOR BMW
Very nice story 👍

100% death cow lol
In 2002, after the recovery, he appeared in public in italy and after an applause he said: "my legs are shaking with happiness"
He’s a legend
What a guy
I’m going to look up to him for ever now

Absolute Chad.
Anon just wont give up(i respect him for that)
f1 was still pretty dangerous when alex was in it
*Gigachad
And he's now essentially a semi-active vegetable like Michael Schumacher currently is after his skiing crash. Head injuries are no joke, and getting one and surviving is worse than succumbing to one, as CTE has proven time and time again. He WILL NOT return to any sport at this stage due to the injury, on top of his advanced age (he'll be 56 years old by October 2022), which worsens the recovery.
You've vastly understated Alex's achievements.
Poor dude’s condo literally burnt down a couple weeks ago, destroyed some of his rehab equipment. Forza Alex, we hope you have a full recovery
Didn´t know that. What a pity!! It´s unbelieavable the things this man had to endure.
This only worsens the recovery, which will only help him on a partial basis, his speech is still a mess because head injuries stack on top of each other, remember that concussion he got at Spa in 1992? Yeah, there's no doubt in my mind that Zanardi also has CTE on top of the skull fractures inflicted upon him at Siena in 2020.
Where is the GOFUNDME for this absolute legend?
@@daltonauto bump. I'd donate asap.
Our Alex can't catch a break
Zanardi was the embodiment of “when life gives you lemons,” except instead of making lemonade, zanardi gave life the finger and carried on his merry way
He took the classic joke of squeezing the juice in life's eyes or throwing the lemons back seriously.
Burning someone's house down with the lemons@@benjaminmorris4962
he invented a combustible lemon to burn life's house down
Nah he injects the juicy into the veins and its clearly working like GOD DAMN
It's due to the grace of God and Jesus that everyone is safe
God damn this man is an inspiration to us all
true word. Forza Alex
Hell yeah!!!!
Amen! What a man he is!
Your comment is ridiculous.
I remember my father telling me about him when I was a child. How he lost his legs and then, after recovery, decided to finish the race he had started. And when the kids at school were talking about super heroes like spider man, I told them his story. A real life super hero. No fiction, no inhuman powers, just pure determination. Always looking forward, to greater things, always finding a way to be the best.
Hear hear, what a legend
Alex Zanardi is hands down the most inspirational human being on this planet. Anyone who has their heart stop 7 times within a 15 minute period literally refuses to die.
Another driver was Barrichello he was pronounced dead for 6 minutes; should've stayed another 3 minutes in clinical death it would've been declared deceased...
When did that happen to rubens? All I can find is info on his 1994 crash where he couldn't breath for a while, but there he wasn't dead.
We should also give a shoutout to all the doctors that attended and are attending him. They've all clearly worked wonders and have also shown the same fighting spirit.
It is really difficult to try to understand why bad luck has raged in such a way against such an extraordinary person.
The Ancient Greeks would have said that the Gods were envious of his talent.
agree
Yeah it does seem like it. It dont seem right. A friend of mine would say God is testing him. I think hes been over tested and deserves a break from now on.
I think it might have something to do with racing.
600th like
@@41663 oh I hear you, but God has nothing to do with the misfortunes like that .Those arent tests. Trials and tribulations are one thing, but this stuff is something different. I'll shoot it straight. Realistically speaking, this is nothing to do with God. When you make it to top tier, whatever industry, ie... lets say music... for example, you have to 'sell your soul' so to speak for those contracts and connections to the right people to get you that fame and success... I rather not say much more but do some research. For fame and glory, you HAVE to pay. It's just how the world works. It's an evil place. And we aren't talking currency here. This has to do with someone who resides in hell who's name startes with a 'S'.
It's astonishing the fact that he is still alive after all he's gone through.
In Argentina we have the touring driver Adiran Hang who, due to an accident in Monza, lost his legs, returned to Argetina, won a championship for cars with a roof, and went to Europe to compete in the Italian Speed and Tourism Championship. Champion (Rover 200). He is a good friend of Zanardi and the two discuss leg prostheses. UN ABRAZO DESDE ARGENTINA....You made me emotional with Alex's story
Alex is a fellow countryman of mine and I remember seeing him pass by that bicycle of his at full speed through the center of the town. He would tear me a smile every time I saw him because it's amazing how he never gave up. We are all waiting for him to hug him and tell him: "we missed you".
*on that bicycle
His Ganassi days are still talked about here in IndyCar circles. I wish he had a shot to win the Indy 500. Zanardi is easily the late 90's best IndyCar driver
Do you remember his pass on the corkscrew...?
honestly i would put him in the GOAT catagory for all time drivers.
@@thatonenigeriansformula lol
Unfortunate for Alex their was a driver named Jimmy Vasser. He was a better late 90's driver.
@@tatertots5625 no jokes
Only knew of Alex Zinardi by watching F1 in the late 90's.
Didn't think much of him at the time, nor did I pay any attention to what he did before and after F1 as he just never stood out for me.
But my god, he really is the Comeback kid. No matter what life changing experiences he went through, the man just got up and came back to dominate in areas where he could.
What would have ended most people, he's given inspiration to us all, to persevere and to adapt no matter what Iife might throw at you.
Thank you for making this video, truly enjoyed watching this.
zanardi WILL go on to be the very best he can possibly be, and that my friends is what should inspire us all to do the same. After he nearly died in 2001, I watched a video where his Mother talked about how they were alike in certain ways and how he got his good nature from his Dad. So yeah it makes since that whenever possible, all children should have both a mother and father (not divorced) who hopefully have a great genetic makeup and and who raise their children in the best, supportive environment possible.
*ZAnardi
So you didn't watch him in CART in the late 90's?! He was the most amazing driver ever there.
@@amjan never showed the CART series here in the UK.
I had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago. He is the single most astonishing human being I've ever met. He was impressed by my knowledge of F1 and indycar and having Alex Zanardi listening to the stories i was telling him from motorsports, like the Whittington brothers to what was going on in F1 at the time was an incredible feeling. He is the embodiment of what a man needs to be in order to be a happy man. He never let down. Meeting him was a realization for a young 18 year old about what life is. Thank you Alex.
I met him in 2006 when he was racing at Ravaglia BMW, this man is such a great person! a real inspiration!
He comes across as a nice chap. What was he like?
Found my hero, never had one before but this man is a legend
Read his book.
Even though his story has been told so many times, it continues to grow and become even more incredible. Thanks for the video.
(But why do you have to taunt me with the background behind you?! 😅)
If I keep posting videos with the Mini in it, maybe I will finally feel guilty enough to finish it 😂

Being an italian born in 2010 I heard a lot of him from grandparents but this video showed all the story from the beginning. What a tough man, hope to see him soon racing again
This man has on multiple occasions looked death in the face and said “no, not today!” Not sure there has ever been a more inspiring person.
To say this man is unstoppable would be an understatement 💪🏽
Never heard off him until now but my respect for him is through the roof.
Such determination. Really is a amazing role model and someone to look up to.
I’ve read an article that says we went back to hospital early this month after a fire broke out at home in Italy. Damm life doesn’t give him a break. I’m sure he’ll be back stronger. Get well soon champ.
He's my hero! I watched CART as a kid and loved his attitude and his livery (the Target one). After the Lausitzring crash and comeback from all of the hell he went through, I was convinced that he's probably the toughest (physically and mentaly) human who ever existed. Truly insiprational guy.
one of the most esteemed men in Italy in a transversal way, thanks also to his great humility.
He is one of my favorite all time drivers, not for his wins which were amazing but for his absolute titanium will to NEVER give up.
The only “celebrity” I would be excited to meet. He is a legend and an inspiration, I shed a tear every time I think of his current situation.
This made me cry a lot. Thanks for making this man's story known to everyone. Zanardi is and will always be a pure legend. As many in the comments said, he is a fountain of inspiration to the world.
I literally cried my eyes out when Alex lost his legs, I loved his driving
What a bad ass. Thanks for sharing this story man.
Probably the wildest race for him was the 2020 Rolex 24. He raced (with able bodied co-drivers) WITHOUT his prosthetic legs, and was competitive (BMW GTS class car). It was maddening seeing him execute a driver change from the pit wall with no help whatsoever (other than customary for a driver change), literally flipping out to the car like a freaking seal. If you didn't know who was driving, the only clue was the in car camera when he would reach for a hand brake (think drift car). Thanks for the update on him; I thought he had been reduced to a Schumacher like state, I did not know he was even recovering (let alone still having his mind in tact).
My eyes are filling up just watching this now - 20 years after the crash which severed his legs. What an inspiration.
sadly, official reports of the accident of the italian police confirmed that alex lost control of his bike and invaded the opposite lane, and even if the lorry driver made a good maneuver to avoid the crash, it was inevitable. this legend of a man has been so unlucky that I can't really understand why he would deserve all of this. hope to see him again, fighting for what he loves the most: winning
Loved this video, but you forgot to include his Rolex 24 at Daytona class win in a BMW GT Class car using hand controls.
That’s was a big deal for everyone who was at the track and the millions around the world who watched him compete in that race.
Zanardi is not only an incredible fighter and strong-willed person, he is also an incredibly nice, very likeable person who never stops believing in the good. No matter what strokes of fate he has had to endure, I have always experienced him as very friendly and with a smile. I thanked him in Monaco for his autograph and he just said "thank you for wanting my autograph".
I hope for his sake that this streak of bad luck will finally end and he can enjoy the rest of his life!
Unbelievable guy!
Alex's story gives the honoring title of "LEGEND" a brand new meaning. One of the most inspiring people I've ever learned about! Extremely tough destiny which would break five different people separately. He's a man. Wish him the best, this screwed-up world needs heroes as Alex 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow!!! Thats an amazing human being. When you got to the part about him finishing those 13 laps I couldn't hold back the tears. Thank you for putting this together and sharing it with the world.
Life is like coffee: you can put all the sugar you want in it, but if you want to make it sweet you have to shake the spoon. Standing still, nothing happens.
cit. Alex Zanardi
Cercavo qualcuno che l'avesse già scritta, altrimenti l'avrei fatto io! Grande.
My family lives for motorsports, and growing up, Zanardi was always me and my dad's favorite driver, in any motorsport. My dad passed in 2011, after a years-long battle with illness, and Alex's refusal to give up racing after losing his legs inspired my dad to keep fighting for years past his "expiration date", as he called it. Truly a beacon of willpower and desire to live. I hope Alex realizes how many lives he's touched, and how many of us are praying for his recovery.
Was honored to meet and take a picture with Zanardi before his race in Daytona a few years ago. I hope he is recovering well. What a legend!
Holy shit! This story was wild! I remember hearing about Alex Zanardi's terrible accident in CART when I was little and always thought he had died there. It's incredible what he has achieved after his CART days, no matter what life threw at him he always came back stronger than before. His life is quite inspirational and I hope he can recover again. ❤️
IS THE GRANDMA GONNA BE OKAY!?!
What? Are we talking about the same video?

this video gave her enough determination to fully recover
And yes, she did also pass the IA-15 license without bumping into the pacecar
Woah, thank you for this video @Albon. This is the first one I saw from you, but you have a great story telling, and Alex Zanardi is one of the most heroic people i heard about. I hope he will achieve more in his life and will recover quickly. He is a living legend now
This is by far one if the most inspirational videos I have ever seen. This man is a hero. Cheers to you for a great documentary as well.
Wow, what a legend. Great story, Mr Albon.
Hero in so many ways. Thanks for recording his achievements. There are so many that it is hard to keep track.
If Mr Zanardi is not an inspiration to everyone going through tough times, I don’t know what is. His spirit, drive, determination and will to win, to survive and break down anything in his way is truly phenomenal.
When I watched coverage of his 13 laps at Lausitzring at the time, it was perfect. When he won in the ETCC it was beautiful vindication of his belief in his unquestionable abilities. The Olympic triumphs showed that his talents and mental fortitude burn through every fibre of his soul.
The updates on his recovery are sparse, which is understandable, I’m sure that he and anyone close to him are giving him all of the help he needs. As in a race car, total focus, total drive, unwavering commitment to coming back. Watch out world because when Mr Zanardi 3.0 launches he will take on the world as he chooses.
If you’ve not read his book “Alex Zanardi: My Story” I’d recommend it. I don’t know the man, I wish I did, I’m just a fan of decent human beings and think he’s exceptional.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. When I'm facing life challenges that seem to be overwhelming, I'm going to watch this video.
This man is an actual legend, whatever the obstacle the universe throws at him, he stil survived due to his dedication
I have the 93 Belgium GP on VHS, in that Zanardi wreak I've seen a photo of impact. Alex's arm's are outside cockpit and face is planted on steering wheel!
Very emotional video, i'm italian and, really, didn't know all zanardi story, i known of incident in america and the recent in 2020, but not the first because i'm young. Wow i dont know what say, is a incredible man
I used to make the trophies for the Canadian Champ car races . I was privileged to meet and chat with him many times . He was always a gentleman . He made his own good luck , and never deserved such bad luck . He is an inspiration to us all .
And now he is back in hospital cuz his house caught fire. So much misfortune but still such a legend and an inspiration on never giving up
Alex is like a modern terminator just keeps going regardless the disadvantages he had. Fair play to him. I remember seeing him on BTCC I think he went to BMW with hand controls for throttle and brake on the steering wheel if I remember that correctly
After the accident in which he lost his legs, his wife came into the hospital and said to him "I just ordered you a BMW with hand controls
She did this unknown to him. ''We have work to do it will be ready for you soon."
He had a strong and loving woman at his side. Hat's off to her as well!
I simply appreciate that u took the time, energy to present this for more people to understand what his heart and soul was all about. Never the victim, always involved in “how can I move forward NOW”. That’s a true hero!
What an amazing story, I am actually speechless. This was very well presented, you really took us through the whole journey. Seriously, Alex Zanardi has enough tenacity for an entire country. You’ve got to admire that sheer determination.
I'd like to say thank you for doing this video, you are absolutely brilliant for doing this .
Mr.Zanardi and Mrs .Zanardi should be put above the 'fake' reality stars that we seem to be creating every 6mnths.
With the Internet doing its part in parading these 'fake' stars, what we should be doing is promoting the brave people who have overcome a terrible accident or situation or a disability to become the best in their chosen career or life path .
But thank you again, and please get working on your mini in the back there please. Peace/ ciao
I had the privilege to see him in Silverstone 99. Funny part. He was also known for his donuts when he won in CART/Champcar. And during a F1 free practice he spun right in front of us but put his car in the right way and drove away.
as F1 fans since the 90's, when i heard the news about accident on CART, and lost both of his legs, it so sad... then when i heard the news about him winning medals on cycling... damn.. the spirit of this man were ridiculous... and then heard the news again about his bike accident... OMG, can't this man have a break... i admire his will to fight... very extra ordinary..
This mans spirit is truly invincible. He's a legendary inspiration to everyone who takes the time to hear his story. This man went to hell and back and still wanted more - to continue no matter the cost. I stand in awe.
I am certain that he will make yet another comeback. He will win all his battles just like he has before.
He owns that one NSX 💯
The Zanardi NSX!!
Indeed a drive to live larger than life... the man is an absolute legend!
Wow... thx for the awesome tribute video. I followed Alex's career in the late 90's in CART. But didn't know the depth of his amazing story.
I loved watching him in cart. My kids have signed team pictures from him during a drivers autograph session. He's a class act cat. Very nice man and has more lives than a cat. I lost track of his story after the truck hit him on his bike. Thanks for the video on Mr Zanardi.
this man is the definition of "when live kicks you down, kick back harder"
