A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ CZcams. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of CZcams I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on CZcams won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This CZcams channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

Paul Simon loved this version so much that he posted it on his webpage.
That is so cool.
That is amazing!
I know im randomly asking but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Chaim Louie instablaster ;)
@Krew Alberto I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
This is a song by Simon and Garfunkel from the 60's. Disturbed did a great job with it, but it's very different from the original, which is also great.
And Simon and Garfunkel were more like folk rock. This is an amazing cover though. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
My mom listened to this a lot. As a kid it would scare the crap out of ne lol
This song expresses the tone/mood of the original song when nobody listened to the warning that they gave. And Paul Simon loved this cover.
Yes Paul Simon complimented David n Disturb on the way they did this...Amazing version n I was around when the original came out!!!
The Simon and Garfunkel version was more of a "warning or what to come". This version is the "you didnt listen to the warning...so now we are dealing with it".
David was originally classically trained, he is a heavy metal artist although this is more ballad but it truly showcases his talent.
The best musicians understand the importance of classical
He is not “classically trained.” Not sure how that rumor got started. He was trained in his synagogue to be a cantor, which is not exactly Juilliard.
The original was 1960s folk with gorgeous Simon and Garfunkel harmonies.
I think his father is a cantor in the temple ( I think they are Jewish). Disturbed is very heavy metal!
@@cej7519 you obviously are not Jewish:)
Disturbed is definitely a heavy metal band, very much like the hard rock bands if the 1980s and early 1990s. However, as can be seen by this video, they're versatile. Great reaction, buddy!
I couldn't have said it better myself...
I thought it was a terrible reaction. There wasn't much commentary or reaction at all.
@@jasonhall478 It's all good. The looks on his face was enough reaction for me
LOL 100% metal. But when doing a remix from Simon and Garfunkel you can only rock it up so much. BUT Disturbed knocked this out of the ballpark !
Is "metal" as people call it but not "Heavey metal", its metal with a chill vibe. Jason says terrible reaction...oh so you want him to fake it...that makes it a better one. Reactions are of what people react ...tooo... hence reaction. What did you want him to suddenly build a fceeking snowman?
It never gets old watching folks listening to Dave for the first time
Sounds of Silence was a hymn for me growing up. Disturbed brings it alive. Suddenly it means so much more. Thank you so much for reacting to it.
Great reaction. Let me suggest another cover. This was a folk rock song covered by a heavy metal band. My suggestion is a song written by a heavy metal band (Nine Inch Nails) about heroin addiction, but covered by Johnny Cash, who turns it into a song about regrets at the end of your life. It was the last music video Johnny Cash ever recorded (in 2003). It is "Hurt." Be sure to watch the official video, since it has all kinds of pictures from Johnny's life.
Totally agree. And I believe Trent Reznor, after seeing the video of Johnny Cash version of Hurt, went so far to say that the song was no longer his anymore as he was so moved by Cash’s interpretation of “valentine to the sufferer”. It is hauntingly beautiful and will make you cry.
To get a true look at David's range listen to "Down With the Sickness & Through the Fire," they show his metal range the listen to " The Light, A Reason to Fight, and Hold on to Memories " to get a look at a softer side.
Evolution is such an underrated Disturbed album. As someone who own almost all Disturbed albums, it is somehow my absolute favorite.
That *was* actually Metal. If you look into it a bit more, you'll find that Metal is an absolutely massive genre which encompasses a whole lot of very, *very* different sounding types of music.
I'd call this Symphonic Metal. Not their usual stuff but absolutely amazing.
They turned a folk ballad into a power ballad :)
Exactly. Not all metal is Osmium, sometimes you get some Lithium or Magnesium. Some metal is simply lighter than other metal.
check out down with the sickness
Lyric video - czcams.com/video/_wA5NmQESx8/video.html
Stupify is also a great song.
cant wait to see his face if he does, OOHWA A A A A, OOH OOH lol
Oh-wah-ah-ah-ah!!!
yesss and for the love of god, dont do the edited version, you cut out half the song that way lol
Loved your reaction!! 💖💖 You have a new subscriber.
Disturbed really is a heavy metal band, but this song is a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's song written back in the 60's (1964, to be more specific). So, it's an old song, but it's meaning is now more real than ever; back in the 60's television had started to keep ppl indoors, away from other ppl, it was the beginning of mankind stopping communicating.
It was the beginning, so the original is just a sad, melancolic warning which has not been understood properly.
So, while technology had developed more and more, we've become more addicted to it, we've stopped communicating, we are now afraid to speak our minds, for our words not to be misunderstood, we've become deaf to other's problems, (people talking, without speaking /people hearing, without listening), we've lost our ability to show our true feelings (people writting songs that voices never share) because those feelings would be used against us, or so we've been taught to think...
But staying silent would eventually drive us crazy ("silence like a cancer grows")... it's the reason this rendition is a battle cry against us staying silent...
My oppinion only, no disrespect or offence intended.
Since you're not a metalhead, I would recommend you a few motivațional ballads that had helped a lot of ppl throughtout the world : "A Reason to Fight" and "Hold on to Memories".
Stay safe and keep up the good work!!
The original was the warning. The cover is the rage that the warning wasn't heeded.
People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening can also refer to smartphones. As a nurse, I have walked into a room with 3-4 people and everyone had their head down in their phones instead of talking to those right there in front of them. Sad!
@@lisalewis4237 There were no smartphones, tablets, home PC's, etc...when Paul Simon wrote this in 1964 :) However, this song transcends generations since now, as you say, people are addicted to their technology. These verses are even MORE true today than when written almost 60 years ago.
Yes, Davids Voice Is Flawless
This song really brings his inner quior boy past
Well, his father did train him to be a cantor.
At least for that song it sounds as if he's trying to sing it as bad as possible.
Just love how I see you in the corner of the full screen video!
I've really enjoyed your reactions. My favorite reaction of this is when they are singing this on Conan O'Brian.
Yes thats an amazing clip and the best
The Conan O'Brian version is amazing, especially since it's live
Rome... This is not Heavy Metal...
David... Hold my beer and listen to some "Silent Raindrops fall"
But it is a heavy metal band just doing a song that isn't heavy metal.
@@fieryat41 he wasn’t saying that it wasn’t, ur meant to read it as: Rome: “This is not heavy metal”
David: “Hold my beer and listen to some *silent raindrops fall* “
@@NickyLunaLove Disturbed is a heavy metal band even though they sing a song that isn't heavy metal. They aren't the only heavy metal band to sing a song or 2 that isn't heavy metal.
i recommend 'Wolf Totem' by Hu
(a mongolian heavy metal band)
Hit the CC closed caption so you know what it's about
YES
check out the sound of silence by Simon and Garfunkel also see in actually see the difference between the 2
I stumbled on you today in your 'Hurt' reaction and I admire your willingness to try new genres and songs you have never encountered. Similar to Jamel Aka Jamal, I look forward to seeing your evolution through many more. There is a vast world of music out there...... enjoy the journey!
Slow ballads by metal bands are some of the best music out there.
I would love for you to react to Zombie by the Cranberries, and also by Bad Wolves(a cover of it). As for this song, The Sound of Silence was written in the 60s by Paul Simon, has been covered many many times, but this is probably the best cover, as for the rest of Disturbed's catalog, strap in and hold on, as it is very different than this.
Have to listen to both
If you want the heavy metal David Draiman, Down with the sickness or Stricken or The Game❤️ great live version of this on Cohen
I Second that 🤘💯
I agree Down with the Sickness
New Sub here! I’m loving your reactions. I have a suggestion. Metallica “Enter Sandman Live from Moscow” This concert has The largest attendance in History (1.6 Million)
It’s not the largest. The largest is actually Rod Stewart. 3.5 million reported
Not the largest but seeing the guards and helicopters flying just above the crowd gives a surreal vibe to the experience
New Sub here and I really like your videos so far. Two suggestions... 1. Use headphones. On your journey it will enhance so many of these great songs you will discover. 2. Try to make your sound quality better for you listeners. That's it. Great job. Can't wait to see where this new interest in metal & country takes you.
What a fabulous suggestion !!!! Johnny Cash was wonderful, that song done by him gives it new meaning.
You could make sound quality better for your listeners. I don’t want you take it wrong- just trying to help you out.
David Draiman.....definitely an awesome voice! Sooo talented....can sing ANYTHING!!! ....you name it! Voice to die for!!
Amazing to see you go from saying you're not a fan of metal to you headbanging along 10 months later. Thank you for being open minded and sharing that with the world.
I've learned that David Draiman and Disturbed address depression, addiction and suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. They are one of the⁶ most popular, loved bands of our time!
David is part of a thinking man's heavy metal band. They push boundaries and they have gifted musicians and singer in their company. They have a number of covers that are great but this one was their kingpin. 633 million views last I checked, no one has ever been less than shaken by the power of this video. Paul Simon called them and told him it was the only cover of his music that he ever liked, he linked it on his website too. He's never done that before. David is a trained singer from a family of cantors for his Jewish temple. He is a glory. He's also a great guy and so are the other three. I'm 67 and I love this band. I also love your channel. :D
I liked your reaction - it’s always nice to someone do reactions where they actually pause the music and comment on it, instead of them solely staring at a video👍
Down with the sickness! Oooh wah ah ah ah!!
THIS is the way all reactions should be. Video Full size, reactor down in a corner. You. sir are a pioneer!
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. The lead singer is a trained Cantor from Chicago. He has an extraordinary voice, mad skills.
This live version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" was Grammy nominated and the video from The Conan O'Brian show has been viewed 121,000,000 times. It blows away the studio version by miles. WOW!!!
"Oh ... woah ... woah ..."
Exactly.
Listen to the Conan live video, with HEADPHONES lol. It is absolutely amazing. Please.
And he had the flu during the performance on Conan
He did such a great job on this cover. Branching out can be an awesome experience. Thank you for another great reaction!
David's said the band took a beating from their hard-core fans about this...but most eventually came around to it lol. He's very respectful of their fanbase, so nice to see.
It's funny to me now when people react to the piercings. I've watched this video so many times I no longer notice them.
I have thouroughly enjoyed your vloggs....Your trip is for me a trip down memory lane but i love the fact that your discovering these great song keep it up love your reactions ..
Listen to ‘Down with the Sickness’
Every reactor to this song seem puzzled by by the 4 seconds of silence at the beginning of this cover...but the title is the "sound" of silence. Hence the silence (sound) at the beginning of the song. This gives you a reference point to start to build the song.
Love your channel and reactions! I watch every day! Keep up the wonderful work ❤😊
This song has so many different meanings... When schools, especially public schools from kindergarten through high school run out of funding the first programs they cut ✂️ are the art's, music, theater etc. Also, ISOLATION, DIVISION, LONELINESS, NOT COMMUNICATING, NOT STANDING UP FOR OUR RIGHTS OR EXPRESSING OURSELVES AND WHAT WE BELIEVE IN, I could go on and on.
Curious how you'd feel about the original...
Down with the Sickness is one of their songs you should definitely see
You also need to hear "Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed. It will dispell any questions about the music they play! Sound of Silence is a remake.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sitting through it and listening. Really listening. Too many vloggers let themselves get in the way with pauses and not really listening. I’m subscribing. You’re the type of reactor I like.
Note that the instruments are all on one side of the water and all the people on the other side are holding sheets of music. Its a beautiful song. I have listened to it all my life.
Originally, the song was written and preformed by Simon and Garfunkle in the 60's. I saw once that someone said that the original was a "warning" and Disturbed's cover was evoking anger that the warning was ignored.
David's voice is great. His voice nust does so much for this song. He usually is so loud but the soft singing he does is soo good for this song. Gives it a certain gravitas
Its been said that the original version by Simon & Garfunkle was a warning to the world. The Disturbed version is the anger because people didn't pay attention. One of the best remakes ever.
Disturbed is heavy metal and completely slayed the covering of this song! The lead singer’s voice is incredible! Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but he has like a 4 octave range on this...mesmerizing and beautiful chills.
I believe it is two octaves?
They’re definitely a heavy metal band. And yes, his voice is amazing.
Thank you so much James I found it...Cant wait til you compare their other work...Amazing group, a big dark, they take you on journeys to walk in the shoes of the abused. Amazing Band, Vocals are haunting and Powerful
This song is a glimpse into the future. When people don't talk to each other anymore.
Online cellphone chat...
Years before cellphones or computers. He saw what we have become
thank you for not stopping the video a lot. people do this so bad. you do great.
My favorite band... EVER! Metal... yes, but with actual talent. Hope you react to more Disturbed... also, try out some Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and Korn. All amazing voices.
Love the way he sings, Disturbed is a rock group. Never judge a song by the first few lyrics or sec. This is an old song that they decided to sing their way.
Five finger death punch Wrong Side of Heaven! Another metal band with a lead singer who’s voice is amazing.....with a video that will bring you to tears. Cry almost everytime
I didn’t see all of the comments so you may know this already, the original song was in the folk genre by Simon and Garfunkel in 1963. It was written during a time of strife in this country with the Vietnam war, the assassination of JFK, RFK and MLK. It’s basically a statement on the lack of communication between people. Pretty much the same thing we are going through today. Well I love the same and Garfunkel version, the disturbed version puts much more emphasis on the fact that 50 years later people still are not communicating.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. This cover just very much out of the box for them. It took quite a few years before they came up with Virgin that you see. One of their call that I really like his called Inside the Fire. But it is not for everyone because it deals with suicide. When David was his girlfriend committed suicide and he was the one who found. The video is about wanting to join her.. it can be a very difficult video to watch probably grabbing something to do with what your relationship is to suicide. David is a classically trained singer. He was raised and Orthodox Jew which means his family was very very observant. He was trained as a cantot. In Judaism the counter sings everything that the rabbi has read from the Torah. It is beautiful to hear even if you don't understand what's going on. I don't Hebrew so I don't know what they're saying but it is very beautiful. His story is reminiscent of the movie The Jazz Singer where Neil Diamond is a camper and wants to stop doing that and become a jazz singer. It's an old movie. And if you've never reacted to Neil Diamond you need to react to Neil Diamond
I first heard this version of an old Simon and Garfunkel I liked as a kid, I immediately went to ITunes and bought it.
"The Sound of Silence" is a folk song. Disturbed did a slightly metal cover of it.
Sound of Silence done by Simon&Garfunkle in the late 60’s . Paul Simon heard this guy sing his song and loved it. He is a trained opera singer and his music is usually heavy metal
There’s so much music out there. So many different kinds of music. So many different artists. But here’s the thing: music allows each of us to connect with one another on so many different levels. No matter how different we are in our life experiences, music is the bridge we all share so we can connect with each other. Music is the common language we all share. It brings us together in ways we never expected to share. Yet there it is, the glue that joins all of us into one huge family-despite how different our lives are, music unites us into one people. If there is any way for us to unite as one people, music will pave the way for us to come together. On that day, we will sit and listen, and realize that all the ways we have found to hate and kill and fear one another have always been meaningless. We have always been one people. We will always be one people. We just have to realize it and believe it, and act as one family, worldwide.
Gives me chills every time I hear his version. Love it!
Overwhelms me every time I watch it ... which is many many times now.
I respect u my man for sticking with it. I personally listen to a wide variety of music, and to count out a certain genre, could mean ur missing out on great talent.
My favorite out of ALL the bands that have covered it! There's more than two! 😆
I am probably older than most of your listeners. Thank you for doing this, great job. I think you should share some of what you like on occasions as well. I am a rock and country fan, so I think using your philosophy I too should have my horizons broadened. Just be genial with us.
I am 62 i have LOVED MUSIC since I was about 5 years old. I love all types of music. David is so gifted. Another group id Bad Wolf's Zombie. Its a AWESOME song.
They are a metal band. This was written by Paul Simon in the 60s. Very powerful and totally holds up today.
ooh ii can't wait to see u react to this ii swear he really puts out this cover.. this will surprise u no lie
Young sir, your reaction raised a smile for me.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band whose name and trajectory was greatly affected when David Draiman, an operatically trained cantor, decided to become their front-man.
Disturbed did a magnificent job on this cover. They made it theirs and owned it. The video is multi-layered. You actually need to watch it several times to catch all the symbolism. The song was written by folk music artists Simon and Garfunkel, a message to the elders at the time to listen to the cries of the newest coming of age generation (Boomers) to reject materialism and focus on the needs of the people.
Honey, Heavy Metal is not thrashing noise. It's the acceptance of Darkness and the beauty that is contained in Darkness. That is why Gothic culture and Metal culture blend so well together. This song is so Metal
It is metal you just gotta wait for.
This is my absolute favorite version of this song.
I'm person it's even better. Down with the sickness is awesomely incredible in person
Hope you’re buckled in tight cuz you are going on an epic journey.
Understand the desire to live and learn music. Grew up in 70's80's with everything from disco, acid rock to Sugar Hill Gang and the birth of Rap/HipHop. Expand your mind
ROME: AGAIN YOUR EXPRESSION IS PRICELESS!!!
Paul Simon wrote songs that run to the core, lyically and musically. I'm a hard rock guy, but Simon's music will bring the hardest man to his knees, an amazing artist, and a nice rendering here.
David's vocal training is in opera, which explains the reason he can hold those notes so long.
James thank you for keeping your mind open to metal we welcome everyone. 🤘🤘🤘🙈🙉🙊🤘🤘🤘
The group is heavy metal. But this song first came out in 1964. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel sang it. It was wrote by paul when he was 21. This song is much more powerful and has more depth and feeling . It is AWESOME
That is the most amazing cover ever of the original song of Simon and Garfunkel!!!!
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. This was something unique.
Usually, Disturned is hardcore. When they dropped this song some of their fans called them sellouts. One of their biggest hits.
Very rarely do remakes compare to the original and you can name on both hands how many remakes that artists top the original. I was shocked when i heard this for the first time. Talk about taking a risk! Disturbed is a true Heavy Metal band incredible range awesome song.
Loved watching your reaction, it was entertaining watching you get lost in just listening to the music and process it all!
As a long time disturbed fan, if you want some good metal for them, Land of Confusion, Stricken, or Indestructible are very good songs with interesting music videos for them :)
I subscribed because I like your reactions but I think you need a bit more music volume. Your voice level is fine.
I would have never listened to this except one of my sons said I had to. I grew up with the original, but thought this was amazing. Very, very dark cover of the original. I am not a heavy metal fan, but this, like I said, was amazing!
An incredible voice. And emotion.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Listen to Down with the sickness, Voices, Stricken. Look them up! EXCELLENT BAND!!!!!
Disturbed is actually a heavy metal band. I grew up to the original version. I didn't really care for this version when I first heard it but I have grown to love this version best probably because I still enjoy heavy metal music. I love your reaction, thanks. Here is a great song from the 70's for you to react to. This performance is awesome. Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4 - 7/21/1970 - Tanglewood
You must listen to disturbed’s “Down with the sickness” and it HAS to be the uncensored full version!!!
Were you able to see the meaning of the last scenes of the video? You had people on the one shore with all the musical instruments, looking across to the other shore where everybody had the sheet music. The power of music to bring everyone together! Awesome video and awesome reaction! Thanks, man!
If you decide to check out more of this band, keep in mind, this is a very different piece of art that is not like most of their music. Both are deserving, but you may not feel the same way as it is much more heavy metal than here. This song was a heavy metal band calling out to the world to heed the warnings of Simon and Garfunkel (original song).
Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, & Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings 😌
another 60's masterpiece with a great cover and video.
I was fortunate to hear this live, the quality was the same
you know.......this song made an quite the impact. AS Rome was speechless.
