For me as an amateur, I personally love to share my images for the benefit of people that are not able to witness such things. This might be due to disabilities or just plain old age doesn’t allow them to go there. There are so many places I have been fortunate to visit over the last three years (Iceland, Scottish Highlands, Orkney, summits of Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike) to be able to photograph them and share them gives me great pleasure. I live in a small parish and regularly take images of the local landscape and wildlife at different times of the year and pass on the images to our local parish magazine, also post on the social media page for my village, the feedback I get suggests a lot of people appreciate it. It’s a passion that will stay with me for the rest of my life too Henry 😉❤️📷

Exactly this Garry. I feel blessed that a majority of the time, I'm the only person to have witnessed that particularly moment. A Robin feeding its young, a pair of mating swans, a sunset etc.. Its the thrill of capturing that moment to share with others.. Even if my average photo gets 10 likes on insta 😂

For me personally love to share my images with other people. To show them the beautiful places I’ve been visiting. It’s also a kind of historical story of the landscape we keep with the images we take. Landscape is changing over the years. For example they installing all the Wind turbines into the fields.
An other thing is, I’m enjoying the loneliness, the peace and calm. Greetings

"The thrill of anticipation" ... that's perfect! And not only does it apply to photography but in many areas. For example, I just returned from a week+ in west Texas, an ~800 mile drive each way for me. It's a trip I've taken many times and for years I took the Interstate (motorway) route as much as I could, to "save time". But about 15 years ago I realized I MUCH more enjoy taking secondary roads as much as possible. The scenery is vastly better, there are more "surprises" (including the occasional slow traffic! LOL) and there's much less of the mind-numbing sameness of freeways / motorways. And beside, most Texas state highways have a 70+ MPH speed limit, so ... 😀 The challenge now is to find new route alternatives without going totally out of my way. Maybe I need to go somewhere else!! 🙂
    Great video and Happy Birthday!

I like that it makes me slow down and really look at the landscape in a way I wouldn't if just out for a stroll. And watching how the light changes the feel and shape of the land as you watch. That never gets old (and I've been doing it for over 50 years now!).

Henry, mate, you are such a joy to watch and congrats for all your videos. For me, as a landscape photographer, it is all about get connected with the nature and feel how time slows down and simply enjoy all the little details and the big picture as well. Nature/landscape photography for me is pure therapy, Simply as that. Cheers from the Pyrenes Mountains and hope to get here some day. Would be such an amazing oportunity to meet you and share magic moments of photography out on these mountains.

I love a "let's get on the road and see what happens" outing, especially as I recently retired from an office job and I can just head out whenever the impulse takes me. Eyes open, boots laced, gas in the tank, figure out if you can stop or find a spot to park and walk back for that thing you just saw and have to capture, take the day and conditions as they come. (Ooh, look at you, going for B&W! I love working in B&W.) Sure, not everything works out, but you roll with it and watch for the next interesting thing, because there always IS a next interesting thing, whether it's an epic panorama, interesting light, or a tiny, beautiful plant you've only just noticed. Even when you revisit somewhere you've been before, the conditions will be different. It literally never gets old.
Thanks as always for sharing your adventures.

Your vlogs are always such a pleasure to watch Henry! In response to your question, for me, it's pretty simple! Landscape photography allows me to get the most out of the great outdoors, forcing me to slow down (good for wellbeing) and think about my surroundings and really appreciate the wonders of the natural world. The challenge of capturing a good shot comes in second, and the last part is sharing an image that I've enjoyed creating and seeing what reactions I get. No doubt social media has enhanced my enjoyment of photography.

Another winner of a video Henry - thanks! I grew up in the rural landscape of Minnesota and for me the peace and solitude of the woods and lakes have always been my passion. I retired in SE Michigan from an engineering career just before covid hit so I had the perfect excuse to get out with the camera to explore the hundreds of small nature areas in the area. Each landscape challenges me with something new and unique to photograph, drawing on my love of the technical aspects of landscape shooting and carrying me right back to what I loved as a child. What's not to love about landscape photography! 😊

Happiest of birthdays to you Henry. Your father's card is adorable 🥰 Did he draw/ paint it himself? The passion for landscape photography for me keeps getting stronger and stronger each time I go out. 'The thrill of the hunt' gets me out there, as I usually come back with something quite unexpected. Even if it's just a beautiful walk in some fresh air for a couple of hours to unclutter my thoughts and mind. Keeping myself open to different options and adapting to the conditions has definitely been key too.

True, most passions involve a cycle of inspiration, anticipation, execution and reflection. With landscape being so vast and variable there’s an infinity of ways of capturing it even as just an archival record. When you try to convey that wow factor of the live experience through a picture, there’s another infinity of options. Unlimited except by passion, patience and vision.

I have to admit Henry I'm in your camp. I am not like Mark Denny meticulously plans every single thing he does and goes out and then shoots that particular scene. I don't mind that kind of rationale so to speak but I actually much prefer just to head out to a spot doesn't matter what conditions and just see what I can find and look at the world as this open box. And seeing what we can create from what we are given there's too many people who sit on Weather apps and all these different things and they try and get the perfect shot. All those landscape photographers who go to the same spot everyone else goes to like that tree in New Zealand, which I have no interest in shooting. I really like the way you think and exploring an area and seeing what you can find.
