  • For a time in high society, there was no one more dangerous than Daisy Fellowes. This acid-tongued heiress to the Singer sewing fortune made her name through shameless self-promotion, cutthroat rivalries, and mercenary marriages. But underneath her bitter bon mots and perfectly tailored clothes, Daisy Fellowes hid utterly tragic secrets.

It astonishing how many young & insanely rich people took their own lives in those higher circles in those days, almost every rich family had at least one case ( especially amongst young kids ) despite all the money & opulence .. in this case Daisys mother...goes to show ,dont envy anybodys life style & fortune unless you know the details..

@@ruthsmithwade7955 hi, that is quite harsh. I'm 71, widowed twice, first at 27 with a 22month old son. Nursed for many years, general & psychiatric nursing then changed careers & was a welfare officer. Fostered 9 children for 6 months each time till mother's could take care of their children. Most did some were unable. I loved my work & the joy & healing I received. I've learnt it's not money that buys happiness, to enjoy life each day with all hardships & sorrow, the sun still comes up tomorrow & with all it's shams & drudgery it is still a beautiful world. To have people in our lives that we love & they love us back is far more precious than money.😊🙏✌ G'DAY FROM AUSTRALIA.

She lived a bad life to show to us how important is to grow, mature, respect and love everyone and not to follow materialist views about life. GOD AND LOVE are the most important things not fame, material stuff, and the world.

Interesting story. The name Mitford caught my attention. She too was a "bright young thing". Unlike her sisters and Daisy, she gave up the empty life of parties, drinking, and wasting money in order to work as a nurse during the Spanish Civil War. Unlike the Mitford family, she emphatically spoke against fascism.
Back to Daisy kicking Nancy off the boat. Do you think she felt a vibe between Nancy and Duff Cooper? Turns out, when Duff was the British ambassador and living in Paris, the Coopers and Nancy Mitford were close friends who shared friends in the highest social and intellectual circles. By that time, Nancy was not only a well-known writer, but she became a kind of Miss Manners.
Maybe Daisy felt an uneasy sense of inferiority or do you think she was too vain to imagine herself deficient?

Secrets. We are talking about a different generation. My grandmother was born in 1902. Her entire life was over shadowed by her "shameful secret" - refused to talk about it. Before her death she "confessed" that she and my grandfather had sex before marriage; she got pregnant". They had to get married. I was sad she suffered and wanted to laugh because having sex before marriage is a norm in our generation today. No one today feels they have to marry because of it.

Fellowes it seems was a horrid woman who used and abused - vibrant as mud. Enigmatic, '30's chic? Nah... anyone can be noticed if they are wealthy, flaunt it and act rough, primitive and boorish. Daisy Fellowes may have been born a "someone" but she whittled herself down to a "no one." A thoroughly dislikeable and vain figure who was course and selfish. i find it obnoxious to correct the narrator. This woman has a gorgeous clear voice, elegant and rhythmic. lots of intelligent people pronounce words wrongly. i find your comment rude, that’s all.

@@ting1084 You can have your opinion but you cant have your own facts. The narrator cant be that intelligent or even a professional if she doesnt know how to pronounce words.

      @@ztrnch facts?
i am a Harvard graduate, scholarship student, class of 72. I think i would be considered fairly Intelligent.
I was and remain a visual learner with a vast vocabulary from reading. So I always didn’t know how to “pronounce” words before i knew what they meant. And i wasn’t exposed to a large working vocabulary. Nonetheless i was highly analytical and aced all subjects. I read extensively.
I recall being mocked by a fellow student for mispronouncing a word. it was at the Harvard Lampoon where i was working as a secretary. I knew the guy was being a jerk, an insecure, unattractive funny guy. Saw right through him.
I learn by seeing with my eyes and doing something with my hands. I have come to understand and respect myself. I love music but can’t carry a tune or play an instrument. And i have trouble to this day at times pronouncing words.
I found it petty to correct a presenter the way it was first done. In this case i was surprised that the person corrected the presenter because the video itself was so well done and interesting. My sense is that the critic has never done a video, or could do one.
stating that it is important to pronounce words correctly is obvious. Who is going to argue with that?
