- Aye everyone,
--------------------
Here's a special video today about a phenomene that I found really interesting. I wanted to share the few explanations and details I found about it, and see what you think about it.
Once I was flying with the F/A-18C on DCS and when I pushed F3 for the external passing by view, I noticed this weird whistle. Firstly, I thought it was the engines being idle, but it didn't match, well not at all. I saw, by chance, this video on youtube: • Most BIZARRE F18 sound! , and by checking the comments it was really interesting. So I started to search more by myself to understand better this phenomene.
This is a really cool detail that Eagle Dynamics thought to put on the F/A-18C module.
Hope you're going to enjoy this one!

I experienced this sound in 2011, produced by 4 Eurofighters. I was inside my house and I got scared a lot. Then i saw them from my window and realized what had just happened lol.
That's an amazing feedback. Like I said on another comment, I learned by making this video that a lot of jets can make a similar noise. Don't know if it can be categorized as Blue note, but still
2:25 is possibly one of the best sounds you'll ever hear
I dare say it’s similar to the Stuka siren
@@macnetics1916 you can't see it but I'm making a disapproving British expression. A polite one mind.
That so right
The SU-57 sound similar, it's funny
czcams.com/video/1Fb9tvyPqEU/video.html
The f 18 is soft and calm while hunter is so aggresive so much i love it!
Yeah right ?!!
Hunters sounds like F1 cars, fukin awesome!
The best "blue note" comes from the Gloster Meteor F8 cartridges dispenser bellow the fuselage.
The only real blue note is in jazz not aviation
🤓 @@12345fowler
In easy words: Simple harmonics make these fighter jets sound like F1 cars.
Fr sounds like a 80s V8 Formula Car
Just had 2 jets fly over just down the road, I couldn't see them but I know 1 was a f-18. 😁
My work is in the flight path of an as airport, its rare but I have heard a noise similar coming from an A320
Oh really ? I've never heard a similar noise coming from any planes from civil aviation but that's really interesting to know!! I will do some research on my side
@@ColeNorthgate It was weird I know but I heard a blue note type noise, looked up and it was an A320 taking off.
@@mreid08 I think if we know better how the A320's aerodynamic is made, it might be possible; interesting question. It could be a howl sound, but maybe not for the same reasons than F/18s and Hunters ones.
Resonance
Some A320 family aircraft have a distinctive whistling sound while descending but that's not from the engines. It's airflow going over the under-wing vent openings. Most of these aircraft have vortex generators fitted to eliminate that sound but there are still many without
I'm surprised you did not put the F-104 in here.
Hey, thanks for your comment. When I made this video, I hesitated with the F104, which is, for me, different in the process than the F18 or Hunter. The Blue Note is a particular sound often made by aircrafts "special" air intakes. For me, the sound the F104 makes is more due to its engines already making this howl sound idle at ground, than with air flow.
That noise is eerie!
Please do the "vulcan howl
The JAS-39 Gripen makes a similar noise
By making this video, I learned a lot and above all, that so much other jets can make a similar noise
Its even known MORE cuz of the P51 Mustang D's, and 90% of the time gets called "supercharger whine!"
It sounds surprisingly similar to the F-1 race car
Does the su-57 howl count as a blue note?
I'm pretty sure the howl is produced by the engine itself, and not the air intakes
@@johngellare3507 I don't really know and I couldn't find good sources about that. I think it's a mix of air intakes and engines
Yes
The sound is fkin beautiful
Hunter will allways sound the coolest
I have yet to encounter a video about DCS that isn't 4x as long as it needs to be...
Thanks for the kneeboard link!
No worries! Meant for the CASE 3 Recovery video right?

Lee - You're The Only One.
SU57 bluenote however demolishes all of these.
Don’t explain blue note with white note on white background!
Yeah that's my bad. I had a monitor with hight contrast settings and low gamma, which led me wrong
Very cool!
Thanks a lot! Appreciate that!
See the blue note on Gloster Meteor. First plane to do it.
Gloster Meteor, didn't know that plane and just checked, very interesting to see his shape and how a blue note can be created out of this plane.
@@ColeNorthgate it was originally designed to fight in ww2 it saw almost no combat in ww2 almost, but after the war the meteor was used to experiment with a few things like the ejector seat it, there is some more but I'll save that
@@ColeNorthgate oh and the electric Canberra which is basically if the meteor took steroids (it's a bomber) it also makes a blue note
@@germaniaempire2829 Thank you for all the informations you shared with us. Very interesting, that was something I didn't know sh*t about and then I felt into something really cool
F22 has more of a howling sound when landing.
Yes that was what I thought too when hearing it in some rare videos
@@ColeNorthgate oh also, F 104 fighter will howl. They're famous for it.
@@randybaumery5090 Oh! Very interesting to know
@@ColeNorthgate Also, check out the Hawker Hunter blue note, and the P 51D whistle. Thank me later.
The one of the old soviets jets can do that
The gloster meteor also had one
...and it's the real one.
Gloster meteors is the other one with same sound
Dcs has this wrong you should here the noice way more ofter even at high speeds with the f18
Needs more cow bell.
i got a video of the f22 blue note but like for half a second before i stopped the video which i regret. i put the video of it on my channel
Thanks for sharing your experience! Really interesting, I didn’t find any other blue note for other aircrafts than the ones I mentionned, could be a « Howl sound like », now we have to see if it’s for the same reason as the F/18 and Hunter, so it would be a Blue Note.
@@ColeNorthgate I have a video of the Super Bowl flyover. Either the f22 or the f35 made a blue note so it’s possible
@@BM-zm1jl Could be really nice to see those videos and analyze them, but yeah still possible
I always thought that "whine" was exclusive to prop planes (p51 etc..)
Making this video, I realized that this kind of noise can come from many different aspects of an aircraft and its intakes, shape etc ...
Ironically it has nothing to do with the props, that whistle or whine you hear from the p51 is actually the same thing as what’s listed here, only with the six gun barrels. The F4U also makes the same or similar noise bc of the similar gun design and placement
@@jbrad2529 Thanks! I never knew that
@@jbrad2529 What about voodoo in this video? czcams.com/video/C6DWBkF7NUI/video.htmlsi=yDTq4Ut5cjEIBTVO
Same note, but no guns
Couldn't read much against the background
Yeah I figured out.. it was rendering better when I did the montage, but I did something different for my video on the VMFA-232 on the same format
sounds like an f1 race
Absolutely, never had the chance to hear one in real life, sounds amazing
F104 starfighters have blue notes too
Very interesting! Thanks for your participation to that
Also F8 Crusaders
What’s the song in the video?
0:00,
Lee - You're the One.
The Hunter is the best sound
You're so right
@@ColeNorthgate thanks cole
Just so you know you got a few Whisper notes in the F18 vids, not true blue notes ;)
