"Pokémon: Play It!" was an obscure old PC game that was basically a tutorial for the card game. Each card had its own cry when sent out into battle or when clicked in Collect mode.
It's not very well known, but during the development of this game, one of the voice actors actually drowned. The sounds used for Squirtle are his actual last moments. They included it in the final project due to time constraints.
@@slapshot68 - I guess they mostly used the anime voices for the Pokémon who had appeared in the anime up to this point, and had to get creative with the ones who hadn't appeared yet. That doesn't explain the Pidgey line among others, though... =')
Think about it. Back then, all we knew about the pokemon sounds was from the gameboy games and the anime which was still somewhat new ( I think). They literally had to be somewhat creative with making voice clips for all 151 pokemon. For then, this is pretty awesome!
I love how disturbing and monstrous some of these sound. 4:01 Just imagine being at the beach when a giant crab suddenly jumps out of the sand and attacks you, giggling as it swings around hedge clipper sized, razor sharp claws.
A few of these are pretty good, but most of them are just OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT KILL IT KILL IT Zapdos just sounds like a hawk getting electrocuted o_O
the nostalgia.... The noise Dratini, dragonair and mew make have haunted my dreams since I was like 12 years old. I'm 34. I WISH we could play the game in a browser like some other old games, can't for the life of me find it anywhere, and windows 10 won't run it even in compatibility mode. Sadness.

A good number of these are unironically good. Makes me wish the modern cries sounded semi-natural like they did in Stadium then the electronic mangling they did to some of them.
Unpopular Opinion, but I liked the cries. Plus I think that the base sets had the best artwork. I mean I actually could explore those worlds in those cards...
Now, that's interesting; it's like they mixed their anime cries with their cries from Pokemon Stadium (which were pretty much higher-quality versions of their Game Boy game cries).
Some of these are alright interpretations, and then some are just so early 90's computer game made by people who don't quite know what they are doing noises, it's truly baffling.
