@@jackwilson5050It's from Book of Mario, a romhack created by Fatguy where the text is translated into different languages, and then back in English. In this rom, Frankly became Honesty Professor Reality, then Professor Caesar, so he is Honesty Professor Caesar Reality in the lore! book-of-mario.fandom.com/wiki/Honesty_Professor_Caesar_Reality He is also evil.
I find it really funny that the developers would have enough foresight to put in "[NO MESSAGE ENGLISH]" for when Mario is forced to speak without Partners or for when Partners speak despite not having assigned dialogue yet they never considered putting in a fail-safe in case Frankly or Goombella die during the tutorials.
When a partner speaks in a cutscene, they probably read from a message table in memory that gives every partner lines for every cutscene. If you fill empty entries in such a table with an obvious placeholder message, it's easy to spot missing lines when testing the translation. If they're never used, you just leave the placeholder. The code assumes that every character has lines in the table, and the data backs that up with at least *something,* which is easy enough. I would guess that the code for having characters speak pretty fundamentally assumes that they have a location on screen, so when you mess that up, who knows what happens.

Prof. Frankly switching sides is very interesting. What would happen if you gave him a Life Shroom though? (Both when he switches sides and when his death freezes the game)
I believe Mario and every other object that can fight are based off the same object class, meaning most base systems for attacking, using items, having stats etc. are shared amongst all objects that can fight. Because of this, you could probably put a life shroom in franklys inventory and have him be revived. Atleast, that's my guess. There could be a Mario fighter and enemy fighter object class respectively since enemies only carry 1 item max
"you can probably guess whats going to happen" if Goombella dies against Crump. she spins around and dies, just like an ordinary enemy. NO thats NOT what i was expecting! why tf would i think that? game crashes. okay, thats believable. i could see why someone might expect that.
I actually may be able to explain this... in a complicated way. The way animations work in this game is that sprites are just moved and swapped out, insteadof actually being animated. Each enemy type most likely has a base animation set that is used for all the enemies of that type (koopas, fuzzies, etc), so the devs probably just gave frankly the default goomba animations to save time.
Also, you can actually see Professor Frankly getting damaged in-game normally under either one of two conditions: 1. The random stage effects have the stage fall on both Mario and Professsor Frankly during the SP tutorial. This one unintentionally happened to me by pure chance in a casual playthrough. 2. You use Chapter sequence breaking tricks to bring Professor Frankly to later points of the story, and then fall into any harmful deep water, since it also plays the hurt animation for the temporary ally during that time. This is the only way you'll see Flavio's unique hurt animation, by the way, although that one doesn't need glitches due to deep water being there at Keelhaul Key.
Frankly takes damage from the poison, says "F this" and joins the enemy. Then when you fail to do anything right against the trio, he looks away in disgust, like a father who is disappointed in his son
I was about to comment about how finding glitches to kill the tutorial opponents without hacks could help with speedrunning, then I remembered both of those are optional lol
