There's an expression I think I picked up from a Robert Heinlein story? Shave the serial numbers and change the body lines? Someone else mentioned "Orphans of the Sky"? Well this is more or less a shaved down re-telling of Heinleins 1941 short story "Universe" which forced the the first half of Orphans of the Sky but seems to date from 1941, 10 years before this effort.

It's funny but this isn't the only short with these themes from this time period.

Several novels also like Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss.
This one one has very Orwellian tones..
