- A quick flight from Hannover to Stuttgart in the Headwind Airbus A330-900 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. It mostly went to plan. Note to self - never, ever let an Airbus auto-land again :)

After spending a fair bit of time in the PMDG 737 (XBox) I still love how "uncluttered" and simplistic the Airbus cockpit is.
Indeed, I love how clean Airbus cockpit is. But PMDG 737 is still a joy to handfly. Both received same amount of love in my hangar
Your videos are a joy to watch. Competent, well prepared, great. Thank you.
Not sure about well prepared :) I just do a flight in one-take, and take you for a trip - sometimes I make mistakes, but they are always instructive.
48:34 that is a power station called EnBW, Altbach / Deizisau. And yes, those are chimneys.
Thank you for confirming :)
Your explanation on turbine is so wrong. It’s a single axial turbine the compressor spins with apu bleed known as air starter once compressor has enough power fuel is injected and ignited in the ignition chamber which then starts turning the whole turbine and brings the front turbine blades knows as high bypass turbine blades keeps on spinning until it achieves self sufficient mode then the apu bleed air is no longer required.
Just watched this again because having just seen the LatinVFR review, this is clearly the better product. And not just because it’s free. It’s better resolved. The Latin version crashing through 10k at well above 250kt was notable…
Thanks for the video. Very good looking A330.
You're welcome :)
A Portuguese a330 on a German-regional flight 💀
I enjoyed the video, very smooth and clear presentation. You said it feels like flying a computer because you haven't had to touch anything apart from switches. It would be just the same in any current Boeing once you clean up and put the AP in, even a 737. Most modern Boeings autotune ILS too, only the 737, 757 and 767 do not. There was no need to extend the speedbrake to expedite the descent. Doing that left you with quite a few miles level at 10,000 ft. The descent profile of the A320neo won't be that much different to an A330-900. Weight isn't significant.
Having said all that your video is very helpful because it shows what is missing from the Headwind A330-900, compared to real life. It's a shame that they didn't make it look more like an A330 flightdeck. If you know the differences that breaks the immersion. The LVFR A330 shows it is possible to make a visually accurate A330 flightdeck using default systems (not that it's worth the price they charge). The lack of the green banana on the ND to show where the aircraft will reach the selected altitude is a major drawback too.
Thanks for the video Jonathan.
Every time I get the itch to fly airliners all it takes is a couple of videos for the itch to fade away and going back to my old props, warbirds and fighters.
Thank you :)
What's a warbird?
@@nigelsmith721 typically a WW2 fighter
Warbird is a term usually used for military planes of WWII.
Altough I think it applies to any aircraft that belonged to military forces and it is flown by civilians.
@@Danko05 like a war plane?
Tubeing it so fine. Beautiful flight
Cheers :)
Also another CZcamsr (maybe 737ND Driver) noted how the ILS approaches in MSFS are off by like 50 feet or something, so this isn't surprising.
There is a discrepency between the VASI/PAPI lights, and the ILS beam on many airports. I saw his video too.
Plane *fails to land itself properly*
Pilot: Well, that was fascinating
Plane: RETARD (insulting plane noises)
IIRC you can switch ADIRs to NAV while on battery (without GPU or APU). At least you can in the A310 and the B737.
Yes - you can in most planes. You're best off not putting too much drain on the batteries though. Just use them for essentials until you get APU or external power up and running.
@@jonbeckett you're absolutely right! I do maintenance on E190s, and you definitely don't want to discharge those batteries!
The 747 is also a heavy aircraft but on the ground it moves very well on the taxi line.
The problem here is that the steering is done badly
It seemed ok to me.
it seems almost impossible sometimes to turn this thing... you have to slow WAAY down. I don't notice that with the 747 so i think it's just a problem with the steering aspect of it.

As a freeware plane it is very good, not perfect and many things must be fixed but overall it is a good plane now.
Agree :)
Its a cool gimmik and its free so I wont complain. Im sad about the fact that its not even a 330 flightdeck :( More like a A320 with some bonuspanels. For example in the A330 centerpanel is a third MCDU, the parkingbreak is on the left hand side, the thrust lever is slightly different and the main engine starters are covered in a part of the console.
The plane reminds me of a CaptainSim product. With the difference that CS wants a embarrassing high price for their liverys and flightdeck skins.
Yep - it's a fake 330 :)
Excellent job for a freeware
One of my Favourite aircraft! 😊
I'm still not sure about it.
@@jonbeckett its had its issues. Including one recently when you have the interior lights on and look down to the MCDU from the captains postion it glitches between a black screen and normal until you zoom in, but overall its great. I dont think the ILS issue is anything to do with the aircraft and is more to do with the sim itself. Some airports are great and the ILS is perfect and some are just dreadful.
EGGP is one of the dreadful ones (for me). The ILS always falls short especially on 27 and sometimes even sends aircraft off to the left in a loop for no reason at all. I always have to manually land there to avoid the issues. LEPA is another bad one . The ILS on 24L is always too far over to the right and if left alone will allow the aircraft to land with the nose wheel on the right edge of the runway.
@@johnnymacf1 Note to self - always land by hand :)
@@jonbeckett 🤣
Hi Jonathan, Can you give me please the setup process to enter the id simbrief inside the flypad.
I didn't find the simbrief option on the fmc.
Thanks for your help. 🙏
Patrick
It's in the cog at the bottom left.
Hi Jonathan, could you perhaps do a paper checklist for this plane? I always use your checklist with the 737-800, and I would like to have one for this plane also. Thanks!
It's the same as the A320 :)
@@jonbeckett Ah perfect, thank you!
I'm having problems with the battery being dead, any clues on how to fix it?
This Update Was Very Amazing, But I Want To Ask You, How To Input Payload Manualy ?
Through the tablet.
@@jonbeckett I See, Thank You So Much
G’day mate, I’m having trouble starting any aircraft up at a cold start. I’m doing all the checklist properly but engines won’t start. Do you know what I’m doing wrong I’m really confused on this one
Without watching you do it, it's really difficult to say.
Are those announcements made by flycrew stock or addon? Thnx in advance
Built into the aircraft :)
Isn’t it necessary to press button labeled “LS” (next to the the FD button) for an ILS approach?
Possibly. I'll double check. Notice the aircraft DID flare though. It's a shame I didn't have some sort of recorder tool on - because we could have looked inside to see the mode change on the PFD.
I think (may be wrong) that is just for pilot reference, so doesnt really affect the aircraft performance.
No, not realy, but you can activate it to show the Localiser and Glideslope next/under to the artificial horizon, so you don't have to swith the MFD Display-Mode to ILS or similar, you you can leave it on NAV etc. So basically, it's just for reference, but pretty usefull for manual Approaches after you deactivate the AP to stick with the LOC/GS
how do you make your performance calculations on the a339? i always get some values not according to the plane
I don't :)
@@jonbeckett absolute chad
Can I get help as to why taxing out making my turns it’ takes awhile to make the turns, I’ve tried adjusting settings but I can’t seem to understand why it takes long time to turn
The plane weighs 70+ tons. On the ground, you need to stay slow. That's a LOT of momentum. Also - the slow rotation of the nosewheel is accurate - there are giant servos turning the wheel - they take time to rotate it.
So this plane doesnt have the top of descent arrow shown on screen?
Hi Bro I Have TCA Airbus Captain Pack but unfortunately unable to calibrate the same for latest updates Headwind A 330-900Neo.Bro do u have any idea or calibration Video for the same.Waiting for the kind reply
Not tried the A330 recently. Do you mean throttle calibration ?
@@jonbeckett yes bro coz during calibration i am getting error.
I think your autoland failed because you weren't on a CAT3 ILS approach. When looking at the chart the ILS should show CAT1/2/3 ILS modes. For reference, look at LFPG ILS Rwy 08L.
You can autoland at any airport with an ILS approach in the sim.
It shouldn't have engaged flare mode at all then... failure of the aircraft if anything.
I tried this morning to land with ILS approach to the same runway with Cessna Longitude. The result was the same as in your video. Something might be wrong with the sim, not with the aircraft. On the other hand your video is perfect, congrats! 🙂 @@jonbeckett
I tried now the A330 autoland to ILS07 RW and it worked well. So I think the problem is in the Sim database for the ILS25 RW. What is really annoying, the the movements on the ground compared to any other aicrafts...@@jonbeckett
9:46 dont look at the cursed breakdance aircraft in the background
If you clip landing lights etc are you fined in some way?
Well... in the real world you'll probably get grounded, the airline will face fines, the airport will be shut down for a while... lol
Hey where did u download this A330? Please let me know help me out 🙏🏼🙏🏼
From FlightSim.To
I can't get the autopilot to work with this plane, the light from the switch didn't turn on. On the vanila A320neo I just enter the altitude and vertical speed and then press the button and it works. What I am doing wrong?
The A330 is based on the FBW A320 - which is far more accurate and realistic than the out of the box airbus - there are a number of things you need to do around the cockpit to configure the aircraft.
Autoland in Airbuses are an exercice in perfection... in X-plane anyway!
This is a FREE Airbus in MSFS though - not the ToLiss. The Fenix is on a par with the ToLiss for MSFS and costs less than half the price.
The default A310 in MSFS auto-lands fine almost every time.
@@lvwpySame with the A32NX. Suspect this mishap was down to either Headwind's implementation of autoland in the A330 or maybe an airport/ILS approach specific issue.
@@lvwpy A310 from inibuilds is a differente story, this is a freeware plane in development
This version has VNAV now, right?
Not sure
The livery package needs an RAF Voyager colour/pattern
I'm sure you can get one from flightsim.to
@@jonbeckett There is, but the reviews say it isn't very good.
There is also a French and Australian livery, but I don't want to fly for a 2nd and 3rd class air force
Hey there! How much Gigabytes (GB) does the Headwind a330 take?
No idea - I don't have it installed at the moment.
So your philosophy is to fly an A330 with the cockpit of an A320, some exceptions like thrust levers are A330 style.
Personnaly not convinced , but after all it's a FOC product.
Hang on - when did I say "my philosophy"... I'm just taking a look at an updated aircraft :)
@@jonbeckett Sorry I didn't mean it's your philosophy, but the philosophy of Head Wind.
Since the update. I can’t auto start or auto stop the engine systems anymore. Ideas ?
I've never used auto start - I always go through the checklist
@@jonbeckett ya but I just wanna get going. I don’t go into that area. Of realism. Just the actual taxi and flying
PMDG 737 have a good auto land
I think this was to do with the airport.
I really want this plane a long time, can you please tell me how you get this???
It's available for free from FlightSim.To
@@jonbeckett okay, Thank you for Helping me
Are you using any reshade?
Nope
Why black window?!!!in cockpit
hey, my a330 dont show the T/C and T/D icons, what do i do
Update it? Make sure you have the full flight plan programmed in ?
its not on the microsoft store dos anyone know why
My a330 neo always keeps going of course why ?
There are 1001 answers to that.
@@jonbeckett i cant find any answer to that. People have different issues with this plane but i cant solve this issue i have
it is just a bodybuild a320 lol
How will you calculate flex temp
I usually don't bother. It's a fairly complicated thing to explain too - you can find various calculators around that will tell you what to set it at - I think Simbrief might calculate it too.
Why do you call it autoland? Isn‘t it forbidden to land with autopilot on in real life?!
Not forbidden at all - but it's a last resort usually. Try telling that to the armchair expert brigade though :)
My autopilot not work😢
You did well mate but that aircraft’s managed descent doesn’t work at all. No bus would dive and drive like that, no arrows on the screen, terrible. It boggles my mind that a dev would publish an aircraft that can’t even do a normal line flight. Without managed descent it’s all just a muck around. Otherwise good job flying it at your knowledge level.
Cockpit is not the A330
You are such an unprofessional flight simmer 😬
I never claimed to be professional :)
what a horrible plane, honestly it's like trying to taxi an aircraft carrier, it just doesn't turn.
