Most of MLS owners wanted to still compete anyways. Chicago was one of em. They weren’t happy to send their reserve club. Orlando and Cincinnati I heard as well weren’t happy since the tournament is where they grew themselves. Cincy were on national tv for match and it was the round of 16 and it was their first year. St. Louis City is another. First year playing, first match in the tournament, and they sell out the game. I think they only played 2 at home in the tournament and both sold out.

And the tournament also gets that Cinderella team showing out. El Farolito made it to the 3rd round after beating a MLSNP and USL League One club. And took Oakland Roots to extras

The problem is that the cash cow in this league is inter Miami and the MLS are heart broken that inter Miami didn’t get past the quarterfinals and colombus are now in the finals with no real star names

I'm happy that my Atlanta is Participating in the USOC. It is maddening when MLS wanted to pull out citing Match Congestion when they pause the MLS Season for Leagues Cup, which is a Clear Money Grab. I opted out of buying tickets to the Matches in Protest. MLS has Messi and MLS got Greedy. They want to keep the Money in house. The Semifinal between Cincinnati & Inter Miami gained a lot of traffic twords the Open Cup including the Final. TV Brocasters scrambling to get the Broadcast Rights too. So if Inter was playing in it then that's a lot of Ad Money coming to the Cup. I didn't want the Cup to meet it's end. It's the Only Link to our Past. It survived the Rise & Fall of US Soccer. It's named after the Person in Lamar Hunt who helped keep MLS Alive when it wasn't going to last in the New Millennium. We would have been set back Decades if MLS died. That's why I wished MLS was stripped of it's D1 Status. To teach them a Lesson.

I only knew about this tournament because of the Seattle Sounders. I think it is sad that US Soccer does t promote this tournament better, also giving the prize pot to be larger. I can’t really blame MLS owners not wanting to compete in the tournament.

The problem with the tournament is that all the matches are on during the week and weekday games get bad attendance even during the regular season.

Concacaf Champions Cup is happening right now. Wasting breathe on the US Open Cup, which means very little in the grand scheme of things, takes away from bigger more important tournaments.

The issue is about the tournament, does the majority of people care? Might be some of them care, but if they want this tournament to thrive, it is basically EVERYONE has to take responsibility to do better, no matter who. USSF,leagues (USL,MLS and others) have to do better on marketing and promote this tournament. Fans also have the issue, sure sports culture thing is not the same as South America and European being passionate about the sport not for entertainment, but they can't just complain at social media then just didn't even attend to watch the game whatsoever

I care the USOC, but when US Soccer does not promote this tournament it’s hard to care. It’s always a pain to find the channel that has the games televised, the pay out for winning is really low, and it honestly sucks to go watch your MLS team play at their practice facilities because the game is on a Tuesday or Wednesday and fans don’t wanna go. US soccer needs to put more effort into make it this tournament popular and actually advertise and get bigger payouts for winning.

I’m hoping MLS sends all their top teams with their top rosters and fucking obliterates USL so we can stop this BS about this tournament. I’m not talking about Houston or NYRB. I’m talking LAFC, Miami, Seattle, LAG, and Columbus. USL is light years behind the top MLS teams and can’t compete. FACTS! Let the lower divisions play each other.

You cannot say that the MLS is a top league every team is their because of money not merit you have no promotion or relegation so your whole league is a joke you can’t say that any team has earned a place in the MLS on merit

@@siglo2764 dude USL teams can’t compete. The entire planet knows this which is why MLS gives two shits about the us open cup. Their teams win that tournament without their major teams in it. You want to continue to see an all mls final each year? Me neither! MLS is one of the topn3 leagues in all the America’s behind Brazil and Argentina. They’re on par with liga Mx. they send the most pleasers to Europe only behind Brazil. You can’t put USL and MLS in the same sentence.
