I mean, fuck me... when are we going to stop pandering to this childish notion of supernatural bullshit?
The only thing that keeps mankind from progressing at the rate we should be is religion and belief in the supernatural.

+Steve Flemming By any standard that anyone uses to conduct themselves in this reality, by that I mean the logic one uses to make cogent decisions in life, nothing in your sentence purports to ant kind of empirical evidence to support it, none. There is no evidence that humans have a propensity to being "evil" as in your assertion of it being in our nature. Once again there is little evidence of the existence of the biblical Jesus, and none that this person if he did exist in some form has anything to do with modern humans in any supernatural sense.

More over, your argument of burden of proof is wrong. There is more than substantial proof that the laws of physics are constant and unchanging. There is a burden of proof on the person claiming that these laws were broken in such a way to support their claim.

laws of physics allows for the 4th dimension and beyond that, you should try and read what physicist think it might be like to live as a 4th dimensional being because the way you would see the world would appear to be defying the laws of physics, we know almost nothing about the way the world works and what might really be possible. Hell there are theories that say parallel universes are possible and creating so much energy will boil spacetime and create bubbles that will allow you to cross over... so how can something as abstract as that be theoretically possible but something like heaven isn't? hell maybe heaven is actually just an alternate dimension or universe that our consciousness travels to, maybe when we die our consciousness become a 4th dimensional entity? who knows

Hell there's group theory which postulates shit like million dimensional bodies.
So as long as we find out the truth, its just another math problem. Fermat's theorem was a big headache till 1990s and Riemann hypothesis is still a headache. So it's just another science fiction movie till then.

When I broke my tibia, the doctors gave me ketamine to splint my leg. I hallucinated that the doctors and nurses were aliens and we were in some kind of zero gravity situation. The only difference between me and the guy who wrote that book is we hallucinated different things and I was rational enough to see the experience for what it was: a hallucination. And Bill is right. Even if this guy wasn't under the influence of a drug that the doctors administered, the brain releases a neurotransmitter when you are near death which causes you to enter a euphoric state and hallucinate.

Science is the search for God in His Creation. If Science can advance far enough it must eventually prove that God exists, because God created everything, including you. Saint Augustine said it the best when he prayed, " Our hearts are restless Lord until they Rest In Thee " Hearts who do not know God often commit suicide as they find no place to rest. Great words and another arch sceptic admitted he was nearly suckered by a weird experience, where he was certain he had astral travelled. He said it was so real, so profound that he got out of bed, went down to his household members and said that he had to rethink everything he believed. That was until one of them reminded him that every detail may well have seemed accurate but the duvét cover that he was describing was actually in the laundry at that time.

Sharon these false beliefs are not just a happy time for people. It allows people to remove their reasoning skills in many other ways too. An excellent (horror) example is where the Christian father and husband commits the ultimate sacrifice (in your view) and kills his wife and children to make sure they go to mythical heaven (and he 'maybe' goes to mythical hell). THIS is what I'm talking about, when men (especially men) feel that mythical god created them and women were provided to them by this god illusion, they seriously could do just about anything at any time (ie their god may whisper in their ear!).
I helped my young daughter from an early age to stay clear of Christian men (especially this religion with its worst mythical hell than all others). Thankfully she learned they men who believe in mythical gods are quite obviously delusional and no one wants that around their children.
These foolish religious men place their mythical god before their entire family, it is a frightening concept, I'm sorry your parents didn't help you to stay away from these fools.

If I am wrong, there is only the slimmest chance that you are correct, for the many religions coming before and after yours hold just as much weight by your own definition, in which you'd have wasted both life and eternity if the god that you mist likely aren't correct about is as brutal as the one you do follow. After the many translation, iterations, and omitted subjects the Bible has endured over many years, what makers your doctrine the true one? If you arento ve honest with yourself, you are most likely following the wrong book, and thus the wrong god (how ironic?) in every circumstance. Atheists follow no god, and I believe the commandments only say it is a sin to follow false prophets, no? So in the leveled field of reason, you are a hell of a shot from being over myself in the gates of heaven, despite my lack of faith inherited in most cases from the previous generation of families.

Toy are SOOO wrong about the Bible (KJV!!)
If you take the King James version (KJV) of the Bible and translate it vac into Hebrew, you will find it to be word for word about 99.98% the same as the old original Hebrew manuscripts that made up the original Bible!! That is 100% FACT!!!
And I'm sorry but NO, sinners without a Saviour (Jesus Christ) WILL NOT enter the Kingdom of God!!! Also NO, you won't burn in hell just for not believing in God!! God doesn't SEND anyone to hell!! You go to hell because toy have to be punished for your sins!! Another myth is that you will burn in hell forever!! WRONG!! GOD punishes people according to the severity of their sins just like in a court on Earth!! Also just like a court on Earth, if you didn't have the money someone could pay your fines for you!! That is what Jesus did for us and out sins!! He payed that fine by dying on the cross!! So actually there's no reason for anyone to go to hell!! See.. God knew it is our nature to sin and that we couldn't live a sinless life!! THAT is the reason His son died in the cross, so we could ALL go to Heaven and never have to go to hell!! But some people reject His gift of Salvation AND they reject God Himself!! So you have two choices.. Go to Heaven and be with God OR reject God and He will grant you total separation from Him and THAT is what Christians call HELL!!!

      *_HELL_*
*This is RIDICULOUS!!! You just wants to try and make God out to be some evil torturer!!*
*See, first, God doesn't send people to hell because they don't believe in Him, OR because they don't love Him!!! God is a JUST God, as in JUSTice, and EVERYONE SINS, and You MUST be punished for your sins just like you would be punished for your crimes on Earth!! You got it so far! Ok.. now, if on Earth, let's say you do something wrong and you go to court and the judge says pay these fines and you can go free! But you don't have any money, and then this person comes along and says, I'll pay your fines for you, but you don't want that and you reject his gift!! So the judge says, ok then I'll have to punish you instead!! Well that is what it's like for manafter he dies, standing before God. He/she has to pay for his/her sins, and then Jesus is like the guy that wanted to pay the fines! BUT.. you have to accept Jesus/God's gift of Salvation in order to WIPE AWAY your sins!! If you reject Jesus, you must pay for your sins yourself and since you can't do that, you must be punished, just like on Earth!!!*
*Second, NOT EVERYONE burns forever in hell as punishment!!! THAT IS A MYTH!!! The Bible says you are punished according to the severity of your sins!! If you were a good person ALL your life, helped people and didn't break too many of the commandments you will get a very light punishment! But if you are like Hitler and had millions of people killed etc then you will receive a VERY harsh punishment and so forth!! Burning is ONLY for the wickedest of the wicked!!! But there is NO NEED to be punished AT ALL!! Since God is so loving and merciful He gave His ONLY son to be punished on the cross for all of our sins, because God knew it was our nature to sin and that we couldn't live a life without sinning!! BUT.. you MUST accept His gift of salvation, which is Jesus Christ dying on the cross for your sins!! If you reject Jesus and do not want anything to do with Him, then you will have to face your punishment alone!! God also won't force you to be with Him!! If you reject God then you reject being with Him in Paradise and therefore God will grant you eternal separation from Him!! Christians would call eternal separation from God, HELL!! SO.. long story short, God doesn't send you to hell to be punished! YOU send yourself there, for rejecting to have your sins washed away by accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour!!* *Just as on Earth, if you rejected your Saviour (the guy that wanted to pay your fines) you would be sending yourself to be punished for your wrong doings!!*
*I REALLY hope this clears things up for everyone!!!*

Why do people have such problem accepting nothing after death? Billions of years the earth has been around you were not in existence, you had no consciousness because you had no brain or body. Up until the day you were born you have been an eternity of nothingness, but did you care about that? Were you afraid of being nothing? Could you tell you were nothing? Why people make such a fuss and fear over death is astonishing to me! lmao You won't give a flying shit about death because you will not be conscious to experience anything and generate any type of emotional or physical response to stimuli. That is one thing people NEVER seem to think about when thinking about what it would be like to just be nothing...well sorry chaps you have already been nothing before you were born and you had no knowledge of it, so why be afraid of it? lol Now being afraid of the dying method I totally understand who the hell wants to drown and suffocate while lungs fill with water, or die in a crash and have your body ripped apart, or shot and stabbed? Fear the method fine, but common people don't fear the aftermath of it that is irrational.

+guitarman0365 I like how Hitchens said if you think of the experience of life, death is just as much of a blessing as life. I thought about that for a long time and the peaceful religions - buddhism, hinduism teach that we were something and we'll be something again (not reincarnation) but part of the process of life. He also talked about the arrogance and narcissism that comes with being a human being. Humans are the most destructive, selfish species the greatest thing is that we do die.

+guitarman0365 What you may not have understood about those rather pathetic people who cannot accept their own demise are those who actually want to go back to their high school reunion and wish they could relive those days as giggling, pea brain sophomores. They really believe they'll rejoice in the reminiscence. For those who just cannot accept that this is the only life we'll ever have.... things might tend to get pretty scary. And those who believe we were predestined to be born at a certain time, exist for a certain period and "leave the stage" as designated by posterity.... it seems obvious (and rational) that the story will continue forever.I must confess, on certain rare occasion in my weakened conditions, I might have wished to be among those who really believed in heavenly bliss.Yet, for better or worse, attempting to enjoy a cold one on a rainy afternoon, seemed to me most rational.

***** Well sadly there is nothing saying god could not of created a process which allows these physics apply to. No different then a computer program our universe follows rules and guidelines we call that (Physics). Science is the method and understanding to explain the container that god created. In the end we get back to we all choose what we believe. Logic will tell you one thing and life experience will tell you another I think you would be foolish to not take both into great account.

    • @tylerstanford7712

***** Telling people that god does not exist when you have no evidence what so ever to support that is just foolish and arrogant. Our progression in the timeline of science can still not figure out even 5% of the answers on how this Universe works. So step back and think what you are saying. You are having faith that your methods of science have all the answers of creation when simply even the best scientist will say " ITS ALL THEORY" meaning aka we don't truly know. If you truly believe in science you can't say you know the answers with out having a shed of proof yourself, you must see that. I notice in my experience the most arrogant and angry people deep down are atheist and against the idea of god. A lot of them can't put some one or something above themselves. A truly intelligent person would always at least be ignostic because they would realize they don't yet have the answers or the proof which means you keep living, learning and searching.

    • @tylerstanford7712
      @tylerstanford7712 Před 9 lety +3

That is very interesting because not once did I say or do anything to push god on to anyone. I get it though you are getting upset because your argument was countered so you deflect by attacking me. And for the record you can't prove in anyway that god does not exist so its a dead argument. Like I said we choose what we believe. To say I believe in science and then make any claim about god not existing is just dumb. But you sound like a typical parrot saying what every wanna be smart guy says. I BELIEVE IN SCIENCE, which by the way changes every day. So what you are saying is you believe in change, okay I got ya!

    • @tylerstanford7712
      @tylerstanford7712 Před 9 lety +2

Well Jesus was a real person that did real accountable things I think your forget that. And I love how you speak of logic when once again you make exact statements like people believe in heaven because... You don't know why people believe in heaven and how they feel or why the reasons are. You take your tiny perception of reality and try to explain the mystery of life... Correct me if I am wrong you don't study physics do you? If you don't study physics and have not went through and proved all of the math yourself you would be taking it on faith that what you have been told is even the truth lol. How can you not see your own hypocrisy? At least if you believe in science say you are agnostic because we simply don't have enough information to make a viable argument. The best scientist in the world even say the studies of the universe are mostly good theories. If it was a fact then it would be known as a law. You need to realize there are very few laws in science, translation we really don't know enough to be throwing out huge accusations. Let me be clear, I can not prove through the method of science that god exist. You can't prove through science that god does not exist. To even say that god probably does not exist would be a very dumb statement because you simply don't have enough data or evidence either way to even support your theory. Stop trying to make science seem like its purely designed to disprove god because it is not. Science is just the tool used to explain the perceptions and guidelines of our reality.

D Santi "I believe it's idiotic to believe that something was created out of nothing ." ---
But that's exactly what Christians believe! That God created the whole Universe out of nothing, by simply uttering words.
"Everything that exist has a creator." ---
But God doesn't have a creator. Therefore, God doesn't exist? To make an exception to the rule in favor of a deity that you have happened to believe in would be considered a special pleading fallacy.
"To say evolution is real is like believe in blind faith , which is exactly what religion is ." ---
Absolutely not. Evidence for evolution is overwhelming, and most religious people are beginning to finally accept evolution as a fact.
      Evidence for evolution: Ancient fossils.
Specifically, their placement in the fossil layers. The oldest layers are on the bottom, and the youngest layers are on the top. Fossils on the bottom are quite different from those on the top, and we can never see ancient organisms from the bottom layer mix together with the organisms from the top layer. For example, there can never be dinosaur and human fossils in one layer. (I'm not counting known hoaxes, of course.)
Besides ancient organism remains and fossil layers, evidence for evolution includes: Similar anatomy across different species which highlights their common origin, similarities in DNA, similarities of embryos, natural selection (as well as artificial selection), the natural distribution of species across different continents, etc.
"God wrote the Bible" - False. People wrote the Bible, and you need a blind faith in order to believe that they were "inspired" by the Creator of the Universe.

It took several days for me to realize it was all a dream. Because I don't believe in or think about religious stuff, that's not where my mind went so I guess it's easier for me to realize my memories weren't real. But they weren't. This neurosurgeon (the author in question) nearly lost his credentials for malpractice on many occasions, and as far as neurosurgeons go, was on his way to a rocky, ignominious departure from medical practice when he wrote this book. Whatever the book's merits, to the extent the author relies upon his credentials to strengthen his account's claim to credibility in ways that mere laypeople's reported near-death experiences cannot (i.e., I'm a neurosurgeon), it's important to remember that, as a neurosurgeon, this man was a washout. That he traded upon the credibility and prestige his now-tarnished credentials ostensibly lent his account is only more evidence to condemn him.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Romans 1 21 - 22

Tina Brown's point was that the experience of the neurosurgeon was a profound, life changing experience, and made for a compelling read that a lot of readers enjoyed. His personal interpretation, though it may not be literally true, is none the less emotionally meaningful, connected with a lot of ppl, and is therefore valid. Lawrence Kraus' point was that that is all silly bullshit, only real things matter, and both the neurosurgeon and Brown need to grow the fuck up. Personally, I'd go with Kraus.
