PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON COST OF LIVING THERE
You could change the title to "the slow living in the remote villages in Spain at weekends" because 90% of us don't live like that in Spain and even less in the cities. It helps us Spanish hospitality workers not to have to go around explaining to the tourists that we don't spend all day taking naps or living as if it were in a perpetual holiday.
It literally says in a small village
Actually Peñafiel is not an small Village... it is much more a little town... it is more or les 5.000 inhabitants... an small village could be 100-200 inhabitants... and there are lots of villages of this size.
If you would like to make your own video to showcase your reality by all means do it! This is how the family I lived with lived daily. They do take naps. Almost every day but they also have help to do things like clean and cook lunch. We showed our reality doesn't mean it's the whole of Spain!
It's still a small village. We visited a Spanish friend in a town 3x this size and she still called it a small village. I get what you're saying, there are really small villages much smaller than Peñafiel but it doesn't mean Peñafiel doesn't also meet small village status
@@EatSeeRV Actually it doesn't. Its official status is "villa de Peñafiel", which means little city, not pueblo or aldea.
Awww. I love Spain. I have photos of my friends and I at Peñafiel on a road trip from Salamanca (where we were studying) to Barcelona. The nightly paseos, small markets for daily shopping and the siestas changed my way of looking at life.
That's amazing!
I normally dont comment but this video was just super sweet. At my house we used to have american students during 6 months and they all became part of the family and kind of my elder sisters, still in touch with them❤ this video reminded me of that!
That's so sweet. Glad it brought back good memories. And also so nice that you've shared that special experience as well 🥰
Village people and village lifestyle in Spain are amazing! Those people are usually very healthy and really nice to the people.
They're the kindest!
I'm from Valladolid (the capital of the province)
The "Paella" is not typical here. The "Original Paella" is from Valencia, and have other ingredients.
Even they call our "paellas" like "Rice with things"
Here the typical are other different dishes, in Peñafiel especially is famous the "Lechazo", a roasted baby lamb
Yes! You're right on all things 😉. We have had lechazo many times there it's so good!
Paella is a classic in Sunday family gatherings all over Spain. I live in the Canary Islands and we cook a paella at least once a month.
@@viquiben4919 Here in Valladolid (and in the rest of Castile), only typical in summer (and a valencian would say that our rice is not paella).
The rest of the year, specially in winter, the tradicional of sundays is "Cocido".
Canarias is very different from our land, eternal spring vs 9 months of winter (at least in the past, but not in the present with climate change)
@@sergio.n.d. Paella can be made in many ways, that was a Paella, but not a Paella Valenciana.
@@viquiben4919Still a Valencian dish though, a dish being popular and made elsewhere doesn't remove it's origin. Paella Literally means frying pan in Catalan....
I just came back from my region Asturias but I went on April with my American friend to La Ribera del Duero to do wine tasting (We live in Orange County CA). Peñafiel was such a beautiful surprise with the monuments, how quaint it was, my American friend said that he felt transported 500 years back in time. We were couple of nights in el convento de las descalzas hotel which it was restored to the original building from the XV century. Everything was superb and we couldn't believe the prices of everything compared to California. Such a beautiful description of life in a small village. Thank you so much!
It's such a special place. Glad you enjoyed it as much as we do. Yes, in many ways it feels like you're transported back in time
I love this video. I walked the Camino de Santiago in 2016 and again in 2021. This brought back so many memories of the small towns. But the hours for meals and the siestas can definitely take some getting used to.
Yes, agreed it can be challenging to adjust to at first. So amazing you've done the walk twice now! I bet that was such an incredible experience
Only a small bunch of privileged people can take a nap in Spain.
In almost all companies you have one hour to have lunch, and sometimes 45 minutes. I´ts impossible to have time to take a nap.
The constant regular naps in Spain are a myth of foreigners. Only people having their own business, children and old people can take naps. Normal people work from 8-9 in the morning to 6-7 in the evening, that´s the only truth.
I am spaniard, from northwest, and never took a nap in my life. In my family only my grandparents were doing that.
Another great video! I've always wanted to visit Spain!
Thank you! I hope you get to go one day
americans after watching the video: oh, so nice, so peaceful, so beautiful
spanish after watching the video: triggered by the paella and its recipe
HAHAHA This is SO true!
Thank you for talking so well about Spain
Enjoyed this video very much! I haven’t traveled abroad so it was great watching!!
Oh so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for traveling with us!
You did a beautiful job describing the life of the smaller towns!
Thank you
Although I live in Bilbao, in the Basque Country, and so do my parents and did all my granparents, my Great-granpa on my mother side lived in Peñafiel before he moved to Bilbao haha of all the small towns it was kinda interesting you landed on Peñafiel hehe. The wine there btw was amazing when I went for a visit.
That's amazing! Small world :) Basque Country is one of our favorite places in Spain! So beautiful.
Very sweet video about Spain. Congrats! And it is good that you mention many times that you are talking about small villages and towns. Unfortunately in big cities like Madrid or Barcelona, many of the things you mention (such as the 5 meals and the famous Spanish siesta) don't exist anymore. I wish! I am from Madrid and i haven't had the chance to take a siesta in years!!! I guess modern life and globalization, although they are good for many things, are also bad for being able to keep old traditions... That is why, in the summers, people living in the big cities love to spend their vacation in small towns. They sure know how to enjoy life!
By the way, the City of Peñafiel should give you some kind of award since this is a great publicity for them. Peñafiel and its people look fantastic!!
Brilliant video. Thank you all for sharing!
The pain is named "Hogaza"and "fogasa" in other languages from Spain it's very usual.
my favorite sparkling water is Penafiel :) Nice video! So happy you are enjoying Spain.
2500 castles are a lot but I imagine not all of them are as well preserved as Peñafield. Still amazing they have so many.
Spain was a border land between Christians and Muslims for more than 700 years. Almost always at war and the Christian kingdoms and the Muslim kingdoms also fought among themselves.
Love this! And I love Paella. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you!
I love that about Spain, that neighborhoods are still littered with small businesses, things like grocery stores. In the US, at least where I live, that's practically gone, replaced by the giant Walmarts and Targets as the only options you have for buying meats or vegetables. It's truly sad. Also that paella looks AMAZING!
Excellent! I follow a few channels that make videos way too long. Yours are short! Totally kidding, but as always, totally entertained and happy to get a mix of day in the life, food, and history in nearly every video.
So glad you enjoyed it 😁
Thanks! Really enjoy your vlogs sooooo nice.
Wow very kind of you guys! Thank you so so much 💗

Welcome to Valladolid, and please do visit more!
Gracias 😁
So, if the castle of Peñafiel was built in 947 (943 says Wikipedia), the castle has been here for over 1.080 years, not 500 😉 (in general, the XVI th century which would be 500 years ago is not considered the Middle Ages anymore). Anyway, lovely video!
It was built then but did not look like it does today. It was added on to, heavily overtime with it transforming into this castle around 1400-1500.
Los castillos son impresionantes
What a wonderful place
It is indeed ❤️
What a beautiful laid back culture, If we could all adopt a little more of that, I think everybody would be a lot better off.
Yes they definitely enjoy life!
The paella looked delicious. 💖🙏✌️
Of course 😀
Very lovely video. And I just LOVE your dress at 14:47!
Thank you!
Hilarious that 80% of the reactions from Spanish viewers are expressions of shock and disbelief at the paella. You should include a trigger warning at the beginning of the video to spare people the trauma🤣🤣
Haha no kidding!
Fun video. Makes me miss Europe!
Thank you guys for tuning in. Europe's a magical place 🤩
Born and raised there! Lived in Europe until 2012. In the US since then.

Man I can't remember the last siesta I had! I'm gonna lose my nationality at this rate! Lol
Jajaja!
BTW, I can't believe how much Sophia has grown. She's beautiful. 💖🙏✌️
Crazy right?! She is gorgeous 🥰
So nice.
Epik awesome video
Thank you!
So nice to be able to walk to all the stores!
Yes nothing like a 3 minute walk to get what you need!
Beautiful video ❤❤❤❤❤️❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
hahahaha my mother grew up in Peñafiel (I was born and raised in Madrid) and she always tells me adventures from there😂😂
Oh that's wonderful
Love the connection you have with the family! Did you need a college degree in English to teach? What company did you use/would recommend? I think my daughter would be interested in doing this. Thanks!
Search for "North American language and culture assistants program in Spain", NALCAP. It's a Spanish Government's program. For some reason CZcams doesn't let me to post a direct link.
as you like castles, hope you get to Granada to see the Alhambra!
We want to! But unfortunately not this trip.
Peñafiel, is in Valladolid, the province with the most number of castles in Spain.
Also, the Alhambra is not a castle...it's a palace complex
Alhambra is still beautiful! fortress, castle, the concepts are similar.
@@DavidCoxDallas Alhambra is of muslim origin, Peñafiel castle's of christian origin.
The first was principally residencial and the second, defensive.
respectfully,@@sergio.n.d., get over it! you're talking about a minor semantic point. the fact is that Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a wonder of the world regardless of origin. if you're suggesting Peñafiel castle is an inherently more worthwhile site simply due to a Christian origin - that sounds awfully racist to me!
Spain is the perfect place for americans to learn spanish.
It's a great place to learn for sure! But really, any Spanish speaking country is. Immersion helps speed up learning Spanish so much.
We have a whole video just on that topic! 🍷🍇
eso es peñafiel, creo
Si 😁
Mediterranean way of life
Yes, it's a wonderful way of living.

Never expose yourself cooking a paella. You will have hundreds of comments from Valencia explaining what a paella really is. They are not particularly tolerant on this issue.
What is it for?

Do you guys know what the minimum income requirement is to live in Spain?
Not much last I saw it was $1,500
Thank you but that seems quite low. What is your source?@@EatSeeRV
Dentro de 5 años dirán: "I need a change".
Quien?
Paella is the most well know dish from Spain however is more a Mediterranean thing. In the North we we don't care much about it. We have other delicious things.
Where are you at in the north! And you sure do have delicious thighs all across this country 😋 your food is one of my favorite parts of visiting
Noooo paella no have onion hahaha
Lo se no es Paella verdad. Es arroz "con cosas"
Mito.

-. La paella de mariscos.
-. La fideuá (paella de fideos).
-. La paella senyoret (señoritos).
-. La paella de arroz negro.
-. La paella a banda.
-. Arroz meloso/caldoso, generalmente con bogavante.
-. Arroz al horno.
-. Arroz con costra.
-. Arroz con fesols i naps (alubias y nabos)
-. Arroz con bledes y caragols (acelgas y caracoles)
...etc...
Hahaha
La paella no lleva cebolla.
Jaja gracias
well in reality only retired people live like that, spain is a good place to live between 0 up to probably 12 when reality starts slapping you in the face and then is good again when you retire.
I disagree. The family we were with works a lot. I think this is just small village living vs city life.
paella in spain is like *mole* for mexico
Haha kind of! I'd argue mole is far more complex. But there are many varieties and it's a loved dish of the country for sure
Queee???....Noooooo!!
You live like a queen
Haha yes we were very spoiled there.

It is not a criticism, simply the famous paella is the chicken and rabbit one.
The paella that exists is a seafood paella, although I prefer the fideua (noodle paella) or the senyoret paella (Bomba rice).
What ingredients do you need for the famous paella?
extra virgin olive oil, chicken, rabbit, green beans, artichokes, garrofo, garlic, tomato, water, sweet paprika, salt, rosemary branch, saffron and rice.
What ingredients do you need for seafood paella?
extra virgin olive oil, cuttlefish or squid, shrimp or prawns, mussels, green pepper, garlic, tomato, fish broth, sweet paprika, salt, saffron and rice.
.... I only added the ingredients to see the difference between the famous paella and the seafood paella. The ingredients are not 100% exact, since some may vary depending on the area or the person's taste....

There are always people that only like to criticise everything and only can see things by their ways. Not all people like the Valencia paella style. There are thousand of ways to do paellas and some of them much better than the Valencia one.
🤣🤣🤣
Slow? Your brain is slow
Nailed it.
🤣
😂
La paella no lleva cebolla, lleva ajo. 😢
We (Americans retired) live in Valencia province….this paella method is soooo wrong. Paella is Valencian! NOT National Spanish dish! Each region has its own specialities.
Nicee video. Igual que a mi me gustan the small cities en España. Greetings desde Puerto Rico 🇵🇷.
