  • In 2004, I went to Bangalore, India to see what the social impact of outsourcing was on the city.
Thanks to Bangalore photographer Mahesh Bhat for his help as a consultant on this project.

This documentary is a pure nostalgic ride for every native Bangalorean. Bangalore has indeed grown multifold from where it was back in the early 2000s to where it has scaled up now. 😃

it is still same. Only population has increased and traffic increased.

I think this whole 'scaling up' has become a fancy word in IT and startup circles to describe something that has simply increased. It has been far too overused, abused and thrown around without much thought to what its definition is.
Scaling up literally means that every constituent element in the mix rises proportionately in augmenting the growth. That isn't certainly the case in Bangalore.
What has happened in this city isn't called "scaling up" but an irresponsible increase in everything consumed sans a proportionate increase in the responsibility that comes along with handling the other end of the growth life cycle - the safe disposal of the things consumed so that the garbage doesn't roll up to the very doorsteps from where it had been sent away.

Hi Jim, thanks for uploading this video. This video is like a time capsule shows how Bangalore was in early to mid 2000s around the time I left Bangalore (my hometown).

Today, 3000 - 4000 Rupees is the bill we will have in our hands after shopping without making a list in Dmart or similar supermarkets. I also acknowledge the development and the problems that comes with it. We will deal with it.

Haha so true, I'm not that familiar with the prices in Bangalore now, but when I was graduating in early 2000s, my goal was to get a job which pays Rs 6000 :)

It's nostalgic for me...have seen the growth path of the city since 2001... From one of the fastest growing city in Asia to today's situation of Bangalore... Love for this city has grown and never felt like I'm an outsider.

Hi Random- It was shot in the Spring of 2004. I think you are referring to the ciip at 17:54. it was an Apple Centre, not an official store. I'm guessing more of a Help area for Apple products, but can't be certain.
