  • Setting the record straight on machine embroidery tension. Myths and facts are shared including the 3 types of tension technology used by embroidery machines. If you're using an entry-level embroidery machine like Eversewn Sparrow, or Brother PE800, PE600 or similar - you NEED to watch this video.
You can download the free face file used in this video to test embroidery machine stitch types from my website:
    ballyhoocreations.com/product...
(You will need to "checkout" for the free file with name and email. Newsletter signup is optional on the checkout page.)
I will be making another tension video to include a test gauge. So what questions do you have about machine embroidery tension? What problems do you have with it?

So, if puckering on front, then thread tension is too tight. If too much bobbin thread showing on back, then thread tension too tight. And if too much top thread showing on back, then thread tension is too loose. And if I tighten the bobbin, God forbid that I should ever touch it, then I have to start all over again. But as a "go-by" If I tighten the bobbin, I would need to tighten the thread tension, and if I loosen the bobbin, I would need to loosen the thread tension, because it is a balancing act (two strings pulling on each other). Top and bottom threads need to have equal "pull" to properly weave together. Do you know how many videos I had to watch to figure this out??? Lots.... But, I finally got it... Thanks Ballyhoo... Love your channel.

YES! Tension is a tug-of-war and what we want is a tie - where neither side wins. LOL. Glad it sunk in for you. Now you understand the theory and will be able to figure it out and adjust for any fabric or thread. 😁

Agreed! Those machines without true auto tension can be extremely frustrating. I'll prioritize a video about the tension gauge since you asked. It's a nifty tool.
