I've been able to rendezvous many times, after a lot of trial and error, and other tutorials. Really wish I had found this first. Possibly one of the best tutorials on the matter I've seen yet. I hope you come back and make more KSP videos.
I've watched Matt Lowne and Scott Manley and neither did as well explaining some of the nuisances that I was struggling with (and consequently overshooting). I''m working with KSP + Interstellar Extended + Planetary Bases, so a few additional pieces to work with to assist. Much Appreciated.
Update. It took like 6-7 save points to ensure I had backups in case I did it wrong, and like 2.5hrs, but I finally was able to dock. Only issue is I'm fine with fwd/rev left/right/up/down translations with rcs and rolls to left/right but couldn't figure out how to roll forward or back, and that make things difficult. Also make sure you have kerbals on your craft, you'll be disappointed if you finally dock and forgot Jebediah on the ground lol
After watching a couple of tutorials from Scott Manley and the like, I wasn't honestly expecting to gain much from this. I was pleasantly surprised however by some of your tips, mainly the maneuver node *at* the encounter point, as well as the camera mode change to lock. Thanks a bunch for the tips, I'll be sure to let you know how my next attempt turns out. My ship is very heavy and slow to reorient, so I've been struggling to successfully rendezvous.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, i just launched a core yesterday into orbit and follwoing your guide, I got a solar panel module to rendezvous with it and today, without looking ay the video attached a communication module.
THANK YOU! I understood the concepts but didn't know how to apply them. Kept watching my target come close and then shoot away all while I'm trying to burn off 1000m/s in retrograde. Time to build my ISS
Hi there, just wanna say a big big thanks for this video. I followed your steps and have saved a kerbin from orbit. Every step was perfect. Really appreciate your video as it has and will keep helping fellow ksp players for a long time.😃😃👍👍
I am Hobby Astrophysicist, i am not studying but i am very into that field. I occupy my spare time with calculating time dilatation... I've never had a Rendezvous... i just miss ... and the velocities are beyond... measurable. (Much more interesting, will (this physics are not utilised in KSP) will the additional mass of the 2nd vehicle change the orbit of the 1st vehicle [Orbit] because you know, Gravity... the heavier it gets the more attracted it turns out, so if speed X is a stable orbit for Vehicle A with mass A, the orbit can't be stable anymore because Speed X is not Mass A+B (Orbiter Vehicle B)
Great vid! You can keep RCS on by tweaking the RCS blocks off for yaw, pitch, and roll. Do this in the VAB and they are all affected for a group, otherwise you have to do each one.
@@captainmobius9332 I used to perform rendezvous without even "set as target" (I didn't made a rendezvous since), so it used a ton of fuel... Actually a whole stage, my ship was not able to go back to kerbin after it
@@captainmobius9332 You made it short simple and on point. People who explain KSP just DRAGGGGG on and repeat themselves way too often. We need more people like you lol well done.
I'm not aware of any of the capsules that have docking ports by default. You'll have to find the one that suits your situation and put on manually. If the tip of the capsule is where you had your parachute, you can eliminate the nosecone shaped one, and use some of the rectangular radial mount parachutes.
I run Interstellar Extended and Planetary Bases as they provide a ton of extra places on the skill tree to achieve. But also for the additional parts to work with, which is really nice. Some ppl do run additional mods like Mechjeb etc that assist in docking/landings etc but I haven't gotten to using it yet.
I don't know if you're playing on PC or console, but on PC you simply click on the orbit line where you want to add the node, and select to add a new maneuver node.
I'm a noob, only 4 days in and trying to rescue a stranded pilot that ran out of fuel and is stuck up there... I know it doesn't really matter... but I wanna do it anyway :) Your approach is VERY helpful. Can you tell me what mods you are using? Specifically all the icons for the Navball SAS. Is that a setting or a mod? I only have the prograde and retrograde.
While I had mods installed I didn’t use any of them in the making of this video. What is available for SAS depends on which probe control module you are using for unmanned craft, or the experience of your pilot in a manned craft. The information window for a probe control module in the VAB details what the module can do. In sandbox, which is where I made this video, all pilots automatically have full experience. If you’re in career flying pilots to other celestial bodies, as well as landing them on the surface, and returning them is how they gain experience. Hope that helps!

I dont usually comment, but just to let you know you really did "help somebody" as u said at 9:51. Thanks a bunch

This video really helped, My attempts always failed, but after watching this is was able to Rescue the kerbal with ease.
this is the best tutorial anyone has ever made, thank you dude
Always had trouble with rendezvous'. Watched your video, done it straight away.
Thanks for the video, very informative and easy to follow.
That is awesome to hear, thank you! Glad to help!
Thanks man. You helped me dock for the 1st time.
Awesome video with lots of good info that just weren’t there in other videos, thanks so much!
