Really enjoyed this react to Linus's linux video. Did you say you got WoW to work through Proton?

I was able to get WoW working through Lutris. The process was actually pretty straight forward. Lutris will install the blizzard launcher and then from there you can install the game just as you would in Windows. It will place the game files in a wine prefix for you. It works great!
I can make a video showing the process. It's pretty quick.

@@accessiblelinuxgaming6858 I've never used Lutris myself so don't know anything about it.

Edit- I use Windows 10 :-( but I still find this interesting, I think if I ever make the switch I'll end up trying to setup a kvm for virtualization., but we'll see what happens with the steam deck release and some time, I'm optimistic about the future of Linux gaming.

32:46 "format c:\" being the #1 reason. #2 is games don't run in Windows as much as ppl claim they don't run in Linux. #3 do I really need an entire partition, drive space worth less than swap, for this "one" application? It's not that using Windows isn't an option, it's that Windows isn't a competitive solution to a worthwhile problem. The installation time alone is better spent choosing another game.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I think I should clarify what I meant. I understand why people choose to not use Windows. I respect the perspective. I choose to not use Windows, for some of the reasons you've mentioned. However, there are cases where using Windows might make a whole lot of sense. Audio production is a good example of this. There are decent DAWs in Linux, but the amount of plug-ins and tools that are accessible, and well documented in Linux is not at all comparable to what is available on Windows. In these specific cases, refusing to use those tools can cost a significant amount of time, and effort. It can also frustrate users to the point where they are willing to abandon Linux all together. It's a personal choice. I hate booting into Windows to use ProTools or Ableton Live, but I also do not want to limit my creativity. Some of these tools can work in WINE, but it's sketchy at best. This is not something I want to deal with when I am trying to record myself singing and playing guitar. I respect people that have convictions regarding proprietary software and FOSS, but in my perspective, my operating system is a tool. I want to use whatever tool allows me to accomplish my goals, without getting in my way. 95% of the time Linux allows me to do that. I enjoy it. But there are times that I need to use the tools available in Windows, and I don't think it's productive to slap myself on the wrist for that.

My comment was removed, perhaps because it had a link in it? I was asking about Wine/Proton users pretending to be MSWindows users for getting support? NoManSky is missing one key binding in the GUI, fixed with vi and an XML file. Another key binding is missing from both the GUI and config file. Reporting these to support shouldn't be a problem, but what if they ask about things like Windows Process Priorities? I had this come up looking into an input buffering issue that wound up being frame-rate related. In the steps they asked me to perform, NMS support linked a page on Windows10 input lag and it looked complicated. I've isolated the issue to one specific action and it's repeatable, a bug in NMS that's found on Linux/Proton. The argument is that Hello Games shouldn't spend RnD dollars on it, I don't think that holds.

For example, it was "news" that this input buffering problem was directly tied to frame-rate. Support had me look at keyboard repeat-rate and while that's a usable fix, they should know to address the root cause instead.

Hm. That's interesting. I've run into CZcams removing my comments as well. It's frustrating. Sometimes if I make edits to an existing comment it get's nixed. Maybe there is a spam detection thing on CZcams's end that is over zealous. I'd be willing to take a look at the link NMS provided.
Congrats on tackling the keybind issue in the XML with vi! Sounds like you're a good troubleshooter.
Were you able to cross check the game on another platform to see if the keybind missing from the GUI and XML is isolated to Linux / Proton? You could probably ask if other users have reported this, without disclosing you're on Linux to get that information.
I think categorically not offering support to Linux users is a bit ridiculous as well. It's one of three dominant operating systems, and it's not going anywhere.

@@accessiblelinuxgaming6858 Being a Linux-Only user and tracking bugs in Windows is something I hadn't considered. Is there a database for Games on Windows, like the two that exist for Wine and Proton? I don't have access to another platform for testing. I did find the "Here is how to edit the XML file in notepad.exe" article online, so that is multi-platform. For the other missing keybinding, I did not confirm its availability on Windows. I stopped after `"KeyW"` was not found anywhere in the XML file(and the GUI), but still that key moves you forward. Those issues are fascinating to discuss as being multi-platform, because it would just be wild to find the in-game menus differ. The game effectively is an editor for this file, and copying notepad.exe and running it in wine to discover it functions differently would be big news as well.
