Duncan is on leave from the Marines. He left his hometown three years ago, but only now has returned, just in time to face awkward questions from friends and family -- and make amends with his ex-girlfriend Kara on her wedding day.
But the meeting doesn't go quite as planned, leading Jacob and Kara on an unexpected path of reckoning.
Co-writer and director Jacob Kirby has fashioned a romantic drama that's engrossing for its visual beauty, its sensitively observed performances and the emotional resonance it elicits.
On paper, the story reads like a romantic comedy, but the care the film takes to paint its world and characters has the depth of a great drama, marrying the two genres in a warmly organic way. The beginning of the short may be placid and even quiet, but the build-up leads to a richly warm, sad yet almost funny encounter that changes both their lives.
Any film about relationships succeeds based on how engaging the performers are, both separately and together. Happily, the short features two leads who are able to delineate the specific beats of their separate journeys with care, and then have terrific ease and chemistry when they finally intersect.
Beyond strong natural performances, the film has an almost classical approach to its craft, marrying stately cinematography and perfectly calibrated editing to create a seamless experience for viewers to get drawn into. We never lose sight of where Duncan and Kara are at when it comes to the feelings they inspire in one another, and we also see the painstaking way they try to negotiate their emotions after such a long absence.
The result is a well-crafted, solid film about love, care and emotional vulnerability. I will never understand how people can get married without being completely sure of their decision
I don't understand how anybody can ever be completely sure of their decision to get married.
I guess that's true, you can never be completely sure. But to get married when you're _that_ unsure, that you'd run away with an ex on your wedding day is just mind boggling to me. On the flipside, how can anybody just run away with their ex when it's such an unsure thing. She hasn't even seen him in years, he could be an entirely different person now
The pressure from family and society is huge to most people. But yeah, I agree, it's sad that people get that close to getting married without really loving and being in love with the person, but a divorce would be worse. Film always dramatizes it but it's not the wedding that makes you married, it is the legal filing of your marriage certificate the couple and witnesses sign.
It's not like you can't say "Do over".
It's a "Leap of Faith" ...because you can never be sure of anything ! Just My Thoughts !

Usually in these stories the would-be spouse is painted in a negative light so that the couple are rooted for. I feel like we rarely see the side of the good, decent, person who fell in love with someone who ends up leading them on all the way to the altar - or even passed that - until finally leaving them, high and dry. I want to see more of their stories.
The bride in this is extremely self-centered. She should have talked to the groom instead of just taking off. Also, she should not have buried that cat. The owners will always wonder what happened to their cat.
are you kidding me? how is she a "good, decent person" when she just abandoned the guy she was supposed to marry last minute? that has all the halmarks of a selfish person who puts themselves ahead of the person they are supposed to be in love with and willing to marry. So she runs off and gets back with her ex, leaving the groom emotionally scarred from the experience... should have at least had the decency to let him know.

It depends on the crash. Half the time, seatbelts prove to cause the most damage in the wreck, preventing any cushion for inertia. Meaning your body comes to a dead stop but your organs keep going. Without a seatbelt, your body still has a little bit of momentum to soften the impact of your organs, at the risk of being more badly bludgeoned due to lack of a harness. It literally is 50/50

vickyrazor in my life time 65 yr here was a time when many did not wear seat belts. In the first car that I can remember our family's car didn't, even come with them. Likewise when it came to babies most mothers just held them in their laps in the front seat! We have come a long way!

I watch allot of short films on You Tube...and have liked almost all of them....but this is the first time I have ever got so invested in the story and the characters. I love to have seen how much further they could have take this story. AND I must give praise to the actors in the lead roles for their wonderful portrayal or the protagonists.

I thought this was so awesome a story ; I mean awesome. No sudden horror scare ; no bride breaking down crying her eyes out and then getting into a bad accident , but just a simple heart touching story . I can feel for both of them. It was suspensful and yet no gory tragedy. I love it. They still love eacother and the story was so left wide open for redemption. Great heart touching story. 👍 👍

That shows me that even after 3 years, she still loved him. But I feel sorry for the other guy wanting to marry her. In the long run he is better off without her. The marine stayed in her mind, even after 3 years not hearing one word from him. But will the stay together, that's the question. Regardless she could've not really loved that other guy and their marriage would've have many problems. Specially if the marine was her first love.
