  • Hey mamas! In today’s video I’m sharing with you a flip-through of TGTB High School 1 Language Arts Curriculum!
    Have you tried it? Let me know all the tips below!
    ✨New here? Introduce yourself in the comments!
    I’ll go first:
    I’m Christina, a first-year homeschooling mom of 5 kids (ages 1, 2, 5, 10, & 13). I am also a full-time teacher, and just went back to teaching in person after about a year of teaching virtually.
    I love the Charlotte Mason homeschooling approach, and many others, but I’d say I’m more of an eclectic homeschooler-mixing the different aspects of homeschool styles that I love-living books, literature-based learning, Montessori, and so much more!
    Whether you are considering homeschooling, new to homeschooling, or just looking for some encouragement and inspiration for your motherhood journey!
    No matter your situation, I hope you feel welcome and encouraged here 🤍

    I was looking for reviews on TGTB High School and hoping you had filmed a review. I just knew it would be thorough and include a flip through. I was right - you narrate and film so wonderfully!! I would absolutely love to see a review and flip through of the other level 1 units. Thank you so much for the time you give your viewers!!

    Great review! I noticed it doesn’t break it down by day. How do you know how much to do in a sitting? Thanks!

    I would enjoy those flip through videos! It seems people often flip through the first unit, or the first part of books, but then quickly skim as they get longer into the video. 🙂

    This was super helpful! Thank you so much for your thorough review. I would like to start my student on set 2 but I was disappointed to know that the instructions are only included in set 1.
    Thanks again! ☺️

      You are so welcome! Can I ask why you wanted to start with HS 2? Also, there has to be a way around that with the instructions! I would email them! Worst case scenario I would be happy to scan the instructions and email them to you!

    Now that’s it’s been a while, do you feel this high school level 1 was heavy on writing and creative writing? That was great for one of my daughters in level 6 and 7, but the other daughter really struggled so we had to switch to a more workbook style type of LA for her. She isn’t college bound so I didn’t want to force her to do something that extensive. Anyway, I would love to hear your advice.

    New here! I’m needing to learn how to breakdown the credits for high school. Can you do a video like that? We are so excited to try this program next year. My question is would this count as geography full credit or 1/2?

    • @RootedHomeLife
      @RootedHomeLife  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jessica! Welcome-I’m so glad you’re here!
      Yes! I hope to get into more of that in the future! It is a half credit of geography, so you can either just leave it at that and Clint the following years’ half credit to make it one, or supplement with additional geography to make it one in that same year. I plan to just put two years together to make the one full credit. Hope this helps!

      Thank you for your comment! I have been searching high and low to try and find reviews on high school boys using TGTB and there is nothing out there! Our son will be a senior and I'm trying to gauge if this will be a good fit or if it is too girly.....if that even makes any sense.....?! LOL!

    I'm definitely considering this for my 9th grader next year. I've always pieced together language arts each year to make our homeschooling experience custom to what fits us as learners, but this seems to have everything I'm looking for in one curriculum. I'll have a newborn at the beginning of our school year, so I'm eager to have an open and go type of curriculum for this season in our lives. Thank you for the helpful overview of language arts high school level.

    Approx. how many pages are in each unit? I'm trying to gauge roughly how many pages per day she would need to do to finish 1 unit per month. Thank you for the flip-through.

      @RootedHomeLife  Před 3 lety

      The answer key is emailed as a PDF when you purchase! There are not tests, but there are writing projects, art projects, and review for each unit!!

    This is our first year and we are using this curriculum for our 12 and 13 year olds. Our 12 year old is using level 5 for 6th grade and our 13 year old is level 7 for eighth grade. I watched several videos and gathered that the level below their actual grade level is for their actual grade level. Next year we will have a 1st and 4th grader using this curriculum as well. According to what I've seen, they will be kindergarten level for 1st grade and level 3 for 4th grade. Have you found that to be true? If so our 13 year old will be in 9th grade next year using level 8 and starting high school level 1 for his sophomore year.

    Just wondering what made you pick the good and the beautiful curriculum bs another high school language arts curriculum?

    • @RootedHomeLife
      @RootedHomeLife  Před 3 lety +6

      Hi! I really like the focus on clean books and content because I try to be really careful what I expose my kids to, I also like how comprehensive the program is while also seeming engaging! I’m a high school English teacher so I was tempted to just create my own curriculum, but this seems so well put together that it was worth getting to me! And I can add things in and take things out if I feel we need or want to, but my son seems pretty pumped about it 😊

      I’ve just watched this video as I’m looking at tgtb high school courses. We have used tgtb language arts courses for 3 years now. I’ve taught 6th grade language arts in public school before homeschooling. I have not been super impressed with the amount of writing or instruction on writing in this curriculum so far and am wondering if that improves in the high school curriculum or if I will need to supplement with a specific writing course like IEW. I want to make sure my kids are prepared for all of the writing required and expected in higher education. I would love to know your thoughts and experience with the writing portion of this curriculum especially with you being a high school English teacher. Thank you.

    • @RootedHomeLife
      @RootedHomeLife  Před 2 lety +1

      @@clairepalmer3415 hi Claire! I feel it is enough, but we actually held off on using it this year. We are “saving” it for next year! I also have changed my perspective on higher Ed., and have decided not to push my kids automatically in that direction unless their career goals require a degree! I figure I have plenty of time to focus more heavily on writing if they seem to be moving in that direction!

    Thank you for this.
    Question, does this curriculum push or hide any Mormon beliefs? Considering the creator is Mormon. Worried about that aspect.

  • @myahwarner3426
    @myahwarner3426 Před 2 lety +1

    How many chapters does do you recommend to read a day, also how many pages?

    • @RootedHomeLife
      @RootedHomeLife  Před 2 lety

      I think it really depends on the kid, but it actually tells them which chapters to read in the workbook, so I think maybe deciding first how much time you want them to spend on it a day and then seeing how that pace works might make the most sense and then you can always adjust as needed from there!
