In this video we show how to replace the spark plugs on a 2003-2011 Honda Element. If you have any further interest please visit www.2carpros.com *Disclaimer: Please use all safety precautions
When I called local Honda dealership they quoted $178 plus tax to change plugs on my Element. I asked for price just to buy plugs they quoted $20.70 each. NAPA wanted $13.73 each. AutoZone $9.99 each and oreileys auto parts $9.97 each. I called a private shop they quoted $155 to replace plugs. When I asked why so high they said on Element valve cover gasket has to be replaced cost $32. Not true after watching your video. Thank you. It pays to shop around.
+gale halver Great to hear Gale! That is the reason we do these videos to help inform the public about their vehicles maintenance. Please subscribe if you have not already.
I wondered how much it would have cost had I not seen this video and did it myself. I bought 4 spark plugs and the long spark plug ratchet thingy for $52, and I finished the job in 30 minutes.
Thanks for the video. You say to tighten the plugs to the torque specs in the service manual. I don't have a service manual. What are they for a 2007 Element?
So if doing the 100K service change for plugs do you need to change the coils if they are still working ? at 220K, they were last changed around 135K, still cranks and runs fine when up to speed, just getting where it takes a while to climb hills, or get to top speed. Don't like to try to over push it, and tear something up. Dealer has been saying I need to do their $900.00 service package due to the miles. Over the last 4 oil changes they have found something between $350.00 to $850 than needed replacing.
My 2005 Element will not start, I have checked the fuel pump and it seems to be running when i turn the key. If the ignition coil is defective will i still be able to see a spark on the plugs? and if the spark plug is defective can i still see a slight spark?
The Element has 4 separate ignition coils, one on each plug. One of them going bad will cause a misfire but will NOT stop it from starting entirely. Look elsewhere. Check for codes to start with.
+Roy Pones Oh, ok. Thanks. BTW, in the video they say to tighten the plugs to the specs in the service manual. I don't have one, and so far a google search hasn't helped. Do you happen to know where it would be listed? Thanks again

Thank you so much. Yes I am subscribing.
Ha, my local dealer wanted 250 bucks and 25 or 30 bucks for one of the crappy platinum plugs. Fact is dealers and most mechanics are a total rip off.
Halverdog , $32 to replace the valve cover gasket? That’s cheap!!

Hondas look so much easier than a Subaru. . Looking forward to many happy miles with my Honda Element
Appropriate socket? How about 10 mm something like that?

Yeah, not "Pro's"
You guys really should have talked about Gapping and pound setting on the torque wrench. It would have helped a lot.
Agreed! The new ones do, thank you for watching!
Thanks! I changed my spark plugs today after watching this video. I really appreciate you.
Glad it helped! Nice work! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video, I'll be changing my spark plugs out asap, An easy 15 to 20 minute job
This worked to perfection, I did remove the negative batter cable first though.....

about 11 foot-pounds, good luck finding a torque wrench at an affordable price that has a setting this low.
Should add that you should disconnect negative battery cable first and also add what ft/lbs for plugs.
Good comment on the battery, as far as the plug torque we like to see them snug but not over tightened. or 18 N.m (13 ft. lbs.)
Is this a good choice for a torque wrench? LEXIVON 3/8-Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench 10~80 Ft-Lb/13.6~108.5 Nm (sold through Amazon)

Do not change coils unless they have failed

Great video! Very helpful! Thanks for sharing
Do you have to check the gap first? Which plugs do you recommend for the element? Thx
We bought the pre gaped plugs. We bought NGK Spark Plugs for this I believe.
nygirl5 ngk iridium spark plugs....no need to gap

Thank you very helpful
OH my gosh - THANK YOU!!!!
Nice. Thanks
Thanks for watching Bill!
Nice but you could have told us what the gap should be and the torque spec.
You don't set the gap very often these days, it comes pre-gapped.

+Hugh Janus (El Infidel) KFFK A general rule of thumb, snug is good, but don't over tighten.
2CarPros Thank you! I did find out it was 13 #s, but absolutely. Thanks for the video.
