Cleaning my KTM's Rottweiler Intake after 10,000 miles | Back in the Garage

Do you have to install a powercommander or any other fuel management device with the Rottweiller air intake upgrade?
Great video! Curious if you grease the base of the filter where it meets the plastic base of the intake like you would on a dirtbike intake filter.
It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea (I do it on the dirt bikes) but haven’t done it on this and have had zero issues.
I'd like to do the rottweiler stage 3 kit soon on my 18 sas. Is that a second tuned velocity stack I saw? I noticed the kit only comes with 1 stack. Is there any gains to having 2? This video is very informational! Like all of your vids actually. Thanks again keep it up!
I did buy the second stack (kit comes with one). It's supposed to add up to 2 more hp across the power band with the second stack. I figured if I was going to do it, I may has well put both on. Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Speaking of the tank removal process. Now I know you have the 2016 SAS but do you know if there's an extra step for the 2017 model since the opening system for the tank works with the remote key? Love the videos man. Cheers from France.
I'm not entirely sure if they have another wire/connector powering the fuel cap or not. Just be careful and take a look after unhooking the rest of the hoses/connectors before fully lifting the tank off the frame.
Hey Mario, thanks for all the vids, helped me on maint with my 1190 sa. I rode CO to AK last year and installed the stage 3 kit before that trek you sold me! Have rottweiler send you ambassador funds! Im curious though, i have air filter oil that drips all over my rear head cover and the rest of the motor, around rear spark plug, etc, do you have that problem? Or am i just over oiling?... still trying to find that balance

I really like the pre-filters as it stretches out the intervals. I rode up to Alaska back in 2018. Depending on where you're leaving from, you'll definitely want to consider a tire change during the trip (again depends on mileage). While I was getting 7,000+ miles out the the TAs tires, I got less than 5,400 on the roads up north before they were cooked.

I've gone over it in detail in previous videos but basically, I rode a guy's bike that had one installed and that sold me.
Nice one Mario! Just started watching your KTM edits as I just bought a new 1090 Adventure. If you were starting again with a new Adventure would you change the air filter system again or just go for the fuel dongles? I always like the idea of dropping in a nice clean paper filter regularly or is it really worth buying this kit? Cheers from sunny England. 😎👍
It's really up to you. Personally, I don't regret spending the money on the kit. A friend of mine added a full exhaust to his 1290 Duke R (which was pricey). He later added the Rottweiler and noticed WAY more power gains for much less money. There's nothing wrong with the factory set up (under most conditions) when it comes to filtering the air. I'd only go with the Rottweiler if you want the performance gains.

With this system being more open and not really having a "box", do you ever have any concerns from road spray kicking up into that area while riding in rain? Just curious
No. The radiator blocks much of it but if you're ever concerned Rottweiler does provide a "block off" plate you can install if you like.

At what point do you use the oil filter cleaning solution? Was it the first wash or second wash or both?
Not sure what you’re asking. In order to clean the filter you need to use the cleaning solution.

I’m wondering if you have ever had any issues with water? I’m worried about long rain days and mobbing through a mud puddle or water crossings.

No. You’ll have zero issues. If rain somehow gets thru the oil foam filter, can u imagine what it would do to a paper filter??
The main filter is not removable from the frame?
Nope. They call it a "lifetime" filter.

I bought one in January this year, just a year old and 3k miles. The handlebar grips are very narrow even for small hands. I had a bad wheel wobble at 45mph and a knock on the front suspension, especially in "off road" and "comfort" mode. The dealer didn't want to know. I sold it after 4 months. Mario agrees about the handlebar grips but he hasn't had the problems I have had (I asked him!) but if you google the probs I had it's not uncommon. Hope this is of some help..

No wobble on Mine.
Bought mine in December 2017. 8,000 miles and no head-shake/wobble of any kind. Grips are small so I just put on a set of Grip Puppies. $20 on Amazon.
I tried that, but it just makes the grips fatter, you cannot increase the width. I did look at putting grips on from the 1290 S (they are wider) but not compatible.

It's an interesting idea that seems pretty solid. My only issue with it is losing the storage space under the seat but for those that want extended range, that may be a concession they'll willing to make. With my 7.9 gallon tank I've covered over 320+ miles between fill ups but for those with the typical tank I could see this being a great option.
15min off, 15min clean then 15min back on is pretty disappointing

I know...but when sweat is rolling down your face you forget...and then you end up looking like a Catholic on Ash Wednesday.
It took me many years to train myself out of that one. Now I use my shoulder, just need to remember to try and keep that clean.

Great Video, Mario. I'm installing the Stage 3 tomorrow morning. I purchased the Red Filter just to have, but wondering which one ( Red or Black ) I should use for normal street riding. I wont be going off road in the near future. Any recommendations? Thanks, Mario.

There’s not much difference between the 2 pre filters. I would alternate them. I’d check it at the regular service/oil change intervals.
