    Great to see the Festival Bottlings opened and supped. That's the way to do it. As things turned out, it was a hymn of praise for Kilkerran with that 20 year old. I'm amazed they already had their cut points so finely tuned in their very first year of production - that says a lot about the amount of planning that went into the project from the get-go.
    Haven't been down to Campeltown for 5 years now, but am still living off the wonderful memories of the distillery visit and the Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting which followed it. Just superb.
    What has also impressed me greatly is the quality of Kilkerran's Heavily Peated range. Not sure why there aren't more voices singing from this hymn book. Have tried most of them up to Batch #9 and they really are remarkably good. There's a creamy American Oak note in most of them that I find very attractive. Then there's the citrus and the peat, which is gradually - year by year - becoming better and better integrated with the dram as a whole. Great stuff.
    Managed 7/10 on the quiz without cheating - well, I did once grab a Springbank carton to check the founding year. But other than that - honest endeavour.
    Many thanks for the vPub entertainment, Roy - and don't let anyone influence your infinity cask. After having time to settle, the aromas and flavours might just start to gel. It's a waiting game, isn't it?
    Cheers.

    Hello Roy, I love the idea of infinity Casks, the results can be unexpected good. My preference is in Peated malts, so I did a few humble blendings with the rest of some bottles and I was happy with the result. Some crap whiskies can be raised up if they are mixed with good stuff. If your barrel is full, let it rest a while and fill it up for your community 😉 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 Thomas.

    Hi Roy. Wow,those sound like excellent drams you got yourself there. I’ll just have to settle for the springbank, Kilkerran and Glen Scotia core range. Still at the moment I’m throughly enjoying my Glen Scotia double cask rum finish. Love the idea of your infinity cask, It’s going to be an interesting project. Myself, I’ve got a few infinity bottles on the go. Had to watch on replay but boy, I enjoyed every minute. Slàinte Roy

    Hello Roy. Another fine vPub as always! Just to comment on the ever frustrating topic of price on Springbank bottles, especially here in the States, the Longrow 21 is averaging around $500~$660 USD after tax and shipping. I was very fortunate to purchase one for retail online at Tyndrum! Total price with shipping was much more reasonable! Definite lottery moment, and can't wait for the bottle to arrive!

    Watching on catch-up again.
    Quick note to Fijian rum
    I have a lot of Fijian mates through the British Army and Rugby here in Germany and have had several Fijian runs (from distilled in a shed on the beach to official bottlings from the Fijian Rum company)
    The rum is the closest to Whisky that I have had.Light,oakay,sweet and fruity but not with the toffee, molasses heaviness of many Caribbean rums.
    I think the casks would marry well with Single Malt.Would love to try it 😢😊

    Just watching on the replay (as usual these days), half an hour in, and it's quite interesting to hear your words on Glentauchers, especially when comparing to Ralfy's words a few days ago in his distillery watch video "Distillery Watch 2024 - 'G's' (2/2)" around the 19:30 mark (I think it's a Patron only video as it's unlisted).
    I can reveal this much: He got away with it without mentioning fruit 😉😅

    Wish I could find more Campbeltown around me at reasonable prices. Have killed bottles of Campbeltown Loch, Longrow Peated, and two of Glen Scotia 15. Currently have a Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 7 on the go, and a Springbank 10 and Kilkerran 16 in the yet to be opened reserve. I'm sure this list makes me more fortunate than some, and I'm grateful, but a boy can dream...

    You could add a couple of bottles of new make (plated or otherwise) into it, as long as they are high abv, Maybe a couple of bottles of the Lagg new make, a bottle of the HP new make and then the borders bottles or two.
    Then maybe throw in some more heavily sherrried bottles. Heck, I'm thinking a caol Ila sherry butt from signatory as CS. could help round things out. maybe throw something very old but very soft into it to reduce the age issue a little. something 25+ which I know is sacrilege to some of us but I mean... give it a go.

    • @Aqvavitae
      @Aqvavitae  Před 2 měsíci

      I'm open to anything, but I'll avoid the new make. If I need to wait the official three years, the rest could be over-cooked. I still don't fully understand how active the cask is. Baby steps for now and I'll throw more at it when I'm more confident. Shared a wee bit with a pal last night and we were delighted!

  • @glennismade

    Roy, you don't have to explain anything. It's your whisky to do as you wish. I won't lie, It did make my cringe a little seeing that bottle of glentauchers get dumped into an old cask full of Islay malt. But, no bottle it too precious to drink or experiment with.

    • @Aqvavitae
      @Aqvavitae  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Spot on. I explained because I thought it would be fun to share it all, and hopefully let folks understand that just because something is expensive or rare, doesn't necessarily mean it's particularly good. Fingers crossed!

    Unbelievable though it may seem, once more the monkey wins! 6 -5 . Statistically amazing. As for Campbeltowm whisky I think you understated thequality Roy. They are clearly better than world's best whisky, more like the universe's best whisky (and the best spirit too).

    2:25:44 Cast iron tub next to the mash tun- @Jimmy Leg I believe you are thinking of the underback. Apparently they exist at most (if not all) distilleries but rarely get mentioned. They hold the wort from the mash tun before it gets transferred to the washbacks.

    A great VPub to follow on from review #18. On the subject of mixing Whisky, I bought a bottle of Glenrothes Whisky Makers Cut on offer a few months ago. I found it a bit heavy on the Sherry and ABV. I later bought a bottle of their 12 yo hoping that a blend of the two might be more palatable. The end result was not too bad. I'm wondering though, because it was blended in Australia, and not Scotland, is it a blended Malt "Scotch" Whisky or just a blended malt Whisky?😅😅Cheers Roy

    • @Aqvavitae
      @Aqvavitae  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That only becomes relevant if you go to sell it - I'd say it's every bit still a *single* malt scotch whisky! Good work Bruce - inspired!

    Hi Roy the the festival sounded a blast unfortunately I'll probably never get to enjoy it since I live on the Isle of man and work in food supply and we have the TT races on in May. I suppose I should just get a new job. Maters of malt have that Glenscotia fino for £64, would you recommend it at that price point?

    Finally finished the replay on this epic roundup of the caskplanation, and amazing Campbeltown liquid gold. Thanks for clarifying the Glendronach situation. I get it now. That quiz was super fun too! Except I dunced it on the asshat, splitting the correct answers. Absolutely crushing 😂 I laughed to spite myself. Anyway, as always, your closing sentiments get me right in the heartstrings, Roy. It was brilliant to see you enjoying the whisky and the company. What a place, what a group. Cheers!
