To all of you who aren't regulars in the vPub yet: Give it a try, stick with it, catch it on replay like I do, and watch it in segments over the weekend if you need to. You will be rewarded with rich insights, the feeling of a robust community, and a hell of a good time! I look forward to Thursdays because of the vPub. I love hearing it all, from the cork twist at the beginning of the theme music, to Roy's toast at the end of the broadcast. Keep watching and you'll know that you're "dearly loved." And don't forget to leave a like!
Well, on this Frantic Friday, I am dearly loving GeoffreyBangers. What lovely words to read my friend and yes - there's a barrier to cross to begin to 'get' the vPub, and I'm very grateful to all that do cross it - live or on the replay, in a big serving or bite by little bite - thank you!
Thank you Roy for another vPub! I enjoy the replays every week, despite a slight whisky fatigue period I've had for the past few months, not sure why. But that's part of the journey I think. Might have something to do with the ever increasing prices...
The ebb and flow of enthusiasm is real. Fatigue will pay regular visits. Relax with it. Wait until you're in the mood Sauli. The prices don't help. Take a break. I have it too and it makes me grateful for breaks in winter and summer to step back a bit. I fall in love again tho, every time (so far!) Cheers to you and thanks for still dropping by!
Most nights I only have a single-shot’s worth… not enough to fatigue me, just enough to keep me thirsty for the next evening I have time for a sip. Half the reason I watch the Vpub is to vicariously drink multiple drams through you 😁
G'day Roy, Friday night here in Geelong , Australia. enjoying an ice cold beer while watching this on replay and crossing to the Aussie Rules footy. expecting a few days of stinking hot weather. whisky takes a back seat heh heh....Have been enjoying my Raasay and When the weather turns a bit colder down here I'll be cracking the seal on the Ardna AD/07.21:05. It's been sitting in the cupboard for over 12 months... It's time ! PS: Loch Lomond 18 is almost empty. Will buy another. some others discussed are so damn hard to get down here. Thanks again mate. AL
Cheers Al, you're facing your winter as we're looking forward to some daylight and blue skies again. Glad you're loving the Raasay and I hope that Ardna lands well with you - let us know!
Great session Roy. I have been following the vPub for a little over a year now, but as a father of a 8 month old baby it is usually the recording as you could imagine 😅. Delighted to see Fettercairn get more recognition. Recently managed to snag a 2022 edition of the 16 year old for 45 euros, and that was for a 1L bottle 😅 needless to say one of the best deals I’ve gotten, just wished that more than one bottle was available 😢
An interesting vPub topic Roy. Should probably be repeated every 2-3 years to allow time for the whiskies to get out to other markets. Out of the original 2021 rising stars I haven't tried Glenturret yet but the rest I agree with. For the current ones, many of these are not available in my market yet. I haven't seen the Glasgow in 70cl bottles here, only 50cl. I have the Kingsbarns Dream to Dram. Hopefully we will see more of the others later this year. Scored 10/10 on the quiz for the 3rd week in a row! Thanks to the help of the barflies. I almost never get the picture question without help. Cheers!
I'm hoping I can find a Glasgow bottling when I visit in May, it's on my list of things to seek out. Hopefully I'll find 3 or 4 things I cannot get here in the US just yet to bring home from my travels.
Roy, you've twice called Fettercairn Speyside but I believe it's Eastern Highland and not close to bordering Speyside. Recently been reading some old (2020-04-07) whiskysponge, and favourite to date was the title of one of Jill Bumsden's (£100 per roll) white papers: "The Paterson Dilution: the case for replacing E150 with Dalmore 12 year old."🙃
Naaaah!! OK Just went back and listened... what on earth? I simply didn't believe you, but you're right. Old age doesn't arrive alone my friend. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll wear a collar of shame next week. I remember that Sponge piece!
@@AqvavitaeNo collar or shame necessary, just noting for posteriority's sake.😉 Thanks for another very enjoyable vpub.👍 Perhaps a sign that you need to play " ̶A̶m̶ ̶I̶ I am a Speyside..." more often.🤔
Another excellent vPub. Delighted to see Glasgow Distillery getting love. Really enjoyed some recent online tastings and there stuff is getting better and better. Their staff are excellent, passionate and very easy to speak to. Really liking the cask strength original.
Fantastic presentation Roy. Here’s one more person that finds tablet a personal kryptonite as well! Got a good chuckle out of that quip. Indeed it was a pleasure to see the Fife distillery get the shout out. Reminded me of walking into the Good Spirits Co in 2018 or 2019 much earlier into my whisky learning journey and grabbing a bottle of their first bottling more or less on a whim. Today it Makes me feel like I was onto something big. In retrospect it’s more like pure dumb luck on my part! Hope that kinda hides the spoiler? Cheers.
Aye good for you considering the spoiler aspect! I also remember a very spirity but clean Good Spirits Co. bottling they did, a Single Cask. In fact, I still have it. That's when I felt like KB could be onto something. Thanks for watching along and now I'm off to grab some tablet. Sugar coma by tea time I'm sure!
Definitely should be an annual or bi-annual vPub theme. Roy didn’t pick the ones I expected but the only one I can get is Glasgow. And I’ll get one now because I trust Roy.
Can’t wait to taste the black hole of malt!😂 The fettercairn is 88pounds ( 150C$) here Est of Canada I will have to pass and wait a while. Good job again Roy!
Which Fettercairn? The WH14? Maybe a bit steep yeah... sipping it again now and feel it's a touch young for the money. Also some bitterness has appeared... perhaps those beer casks showing with a little air. Hold I'd say... Thank you Pierre!
While listening to the replay (couldn’t stay for the entire time live), I tried Compass Box Peat Monster from a 50ml bottle I had. That’s actually pretty good. I like it better than Orchard House. And of course that has nothing to do with the topic, but it surprised me.
Yes always in search of the the Ambrosia, the drink of the gods. Tropical fruits…ahhh the older RBCS has it…Glencadam 15…Arran 10 after a few bourbons.
Another great vPub. Thank you as always for the replay, a busy week meant again I could not join live. Struggled to just get a pass last week and got 9/10 this week, yes the ass hat got me. Enjoyed to dram along with Lagg Kilmory which has joined permashelf right now. Based on tonight’s discussion, I am going to suggest the next barfly meet up is at Wire Works! Not only you want to visit it Roy, and I am pretty sure they would look after us and lay on entertainment and food. So 2024 will be Wire Fest!! Bring it on!
Catching up on the vPub zipped on Arboleur 12 (not a rising distillery, more a stationary one) and now zipping a sherry bomb, made of black wheat, from a rising destillery in Sweden, Agitator. I really like this destillery and can't wait for their first older whiskies and hope for them to be fairly priced then. Slainte!
We visited Fettercairn in 2022 and met with Gregg Glass. He told me about the 18, being made with scottish oak proved to be very difficult because the casks production was very cumbersome. It needs a lot of time to open. I bought the 16, the warehouse 2 and the 18 at my visit. For the 18 i need an evening for it to open up, so i was happy to pay the higher price
Only new Scottish distillery that is easily available to me in NH, USA is Kingsbarns, Balcomie which is typically skipped over by online reviewers. But good to hear that their other offerings are aging well!
Monkey 2, me 9. Highest score ever. I have been finding it difficult to stay with the entire live broadcast. I have discovered I can listen more quickly by playing at 1.5 speed. Useful if time is short!
Hi from Switzerland and thank you for this very interesting video. I didn't find White Peak in my country. I've got Lagg, Adnamurchan, Glasgow 1770 etc.. I love Lindores 1494. I found Kingsbarns BELL ROCK Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl for 99 CHF (87 pounds) and Fettercain 16 for the same price. Do you think it's worth buying for this price?
The two things that swing it in the Ardna’s favour for me are the chocolate note (fucking yummy!), but mainly the lightly peated aspect: SB10 claims to be lightly peated but I can’t taste it at all myself, while the Ardna is just perfectly balanced, the smoke is obviously there without dominating the other parts of the flavour profile, just lifting everything.
