Ahhh haa! Careful, just select the stuff that appeals. I have to say though, it's rare to go through a flight like tonight and discover all of them are worthy. One or two on the pricey side, but still pretty great, interesting 'sleepers'!
@@Aqvavitae 😆....yes indeed, selectivity based on the depth of the old wallet my friend. Seriously though - many thanks for bringing these 'sleepers' to our attention. My whisky journey has been greatly enhanced by your input and these incredible v.pubs. Malty -licious blessings upon you Sir 🥃👍.
Another one I had to watch on the replay ... However, really interesting and informational! Hardly realized that 3 hours went past! AND I got 10/10 on the Quizzzzz! (and didn't even need Doc's help) The asshat-answer was even slightly informed.
That means a lot Klaas - I'm not getting any better at keeping things tighter/shorter - I blame things happening in the space time continuum outside of my control. And whisky. Cheers my friend and huge congrats on the
Love this channel, proud to be a ! The talisker 18 being £180 is madness and too expensive but looking around at recent 18 year old prices it's being caught up by others now. Crazy times
Some 18yos have reached those dizzy, sickening heights, while others keep their feet on the ground so we can access them. When we can enjoy them we talk about them, usually positively. Plenty 18yos under £100: Ledaig, Loch Lomond, Deanston, Speyburn, AnCnoc, and tonnes more... crazy time and getting crazier but we find the sanity together. Thanks for joining on the catch up and thanks for being a Barfly!
I too snapped up the Parley on that offer, too good to miss I thought. I really liked the variance to the standard Talisker style. As for the Talisker 18, I was very fortunate to pick 5 bottles up last year from Fortnum & Mason (you better sit down for this) for £25 a bottle. It was end of line reduction and I think mispriced but better in my collection than someone elses 😂😂. I still have 4 but I will get through them all eventually. Thanks Roy, I really enjoyed tonights VPub
Wow! You really bagged a bargain there! You're the sole reason the price had to more than double! JK Thanks for stopping by and picking it up - and no, it's not a beer it's a hipflask ;)
Nice topic. I’m enjoying my 1st bottle from Talisker. The Distiller’s Edition was reasonably priced at $71 from Total Wine, so I gave it a go. Tasty stuff! This Distillery wasn’t even on my radar. Had I known, I wouldn’t have completely ignored it on a 6 night visit of Skye. Doh! Granted, the photo workshop kept me really busy, but it’s an embarrassing omission nonetheless. As a consolation, it did seem fit to try both Talisker (10?) & Torrabhaig at the Uig Hotel Bar while on the island. A return trip seems inevitable, but I'd rather explore new places than backtrack to rectify my "regrets". Anyway, good shout on Talisker. Diageo in general is something of a blind spot for me. This is party due to a lack of Flora & Fauna Stateside & the fact that IB’s can often be too expensive for me to indulge my curiosity. Some of the vitriol towards Diageo is no doubt warranted. I tried a sample of a Palo Cortado finished Exclusive (Young Teddy?) at Oban’s Tasting Bar. I should have surmised by the price of a dram that the bottle was beyond my spending limit, but that didn’t lessen my disappointment. A £230 bottle with “Young” in the title? For shame. So, enough of my negativity. Lagavulin & Talisker will likely help me keep a curious eye on Diageo Releases. I’ll just continue to buy them only when found at Costco or similarly low retail. I’ll also look for younger IB’s to introduce me to more of their distilleries. BTW- here’s a link to my Flickr page. I’ve always been more into Wildlife than Landscape Photography, but Skye has certainly helped broaden my horizons (pun intended). What an amazing place. Cheers & Happy Easter. www.flickr.com/photos/captain_clutter/albums/72177720314487004
No need to apologise for negativity - it's genuine and should be valuable feedback to anyone who cares. Diageo deliberately opaque for so many of us. It's odd that they care not about being celebrated by those who elevated their reputation back in the day - the community. Hey ho... they do them. Glad you've found ways to connect Tim and thanks for catching the vPub!
Brilliant vpub as always Roy @aqvavitae thankyou. Couldn't make the live but enjoyed the replay, I love how Q8 you bowed to the Docs challenge with joy & how it made you smile, you love the this stuff, don't you! Brilliant to see, your passion is infectious!
Great vPub Roy 🙏. Bet cousin Kev could tell you all you need to know about that Tomatin Fino Sherry release 😉❤. That Palo Cortado (insert any whisky here) Old Perth sounds good too! Cheers!
I bet he could tell me all about the *current* releases (and maybe some secret warehouse treasures!) but he wasn't familiar with this interesting gem of an oddball - cheers to you buddy!
Catching up on the vPub today as I was not able to fininsh yesterday. I, as Roy, hope for Talisker to come/shine through. I am actually having a few days off from whisky as we are visiting a non-whisky-drinking part of the family. Hoping to catch the vPub on Thursday with a dram in hand. Happy Easter @Aqvavitae , Bar Flies and all other whisky geeks and followers.
Thanks Major Nut - it's good to have a wee break - especially when it's with good folks. Thanks for picking up when you can and see you back soon - the Parley is pretty good, but price dependent -Happy Easter
Just realised that when I web-browse with my phone, I have a nom de plume, but when I signed up to the barflies with this laptop, it's my real name and I may inadvertently leave a breadcrumb-trail of my whisky purchases and habits for my better-half to discover...
2:25:30 yes! My wife and I are visiting Scotland for the first time, and I have the very same tour booked at Springbank this fall. I am so very looking forward to it!
Good choice of a new topic, Roy. It's always fascinating to hear of good drams which fly under the radar and unfairly receive no voice. I thought your picks were great - just miffed that the Tomatin Fino Sherry bottling was only ever released in the UK, as I can't get it where I am. As for other bottlings which would fit this category as "sleepers" I'd like to recommend Wemyss "Spice King" 12yo (52%) which contains a blend of Highland and Islay malts (rumoured to be Highland Park and Bunnahabhain), matured in ex-bourbon casks. It's been around for a few years now and is easily available for about 40 quid on the UK market and around €46 to €49 on the continent. Beautiful creamy American oak plus a kick of spice with an ABV that conveys plenty of flavour and a wee hint of smoke. Give it a try! Cheers.
Spice King is a cracking shout for the community in general, one of those occasionally available selections that I am guilty of not giving any airtime to. Love it. Also, yes that 9fantastic!) Tomatin Fino is a UK exclusive, but I do think it's an interesting cask type that works well with scotch and it is characterful enough to bring its own unique thing to proceedings, maybe one to look out for as an 'alt-sherry' cask. Thanks as always Russel for taking part!
Great work as usual Roy. I saw that parley on special offer but missed out because I footered about it too much. The good news is I'll be blowing my whisky budget next week when me and a pal go up to Cambeltown!
Hi Roy just paused at the comment on the Deanston Palo Cortado. I to have a bottle for a rainy day or WW3. I also enjoy Palo Cortado Sherry. To be savoured slowly. Williams and Humbert Dos Cortados hooked me. Seek it out as a reference and I recommend you try a glass before taking a dram of PC finished whisky.
Usually they're pretty clean, it's when I dip deeper into the back of the stash they can need a rinse, but that one last night had a wee whiff of dishwasher taint. Can happen. Cheers Ed.
Old Perth range is really good value, even here in France. The regular one is a bit boring, even if not faulty, but the cask strength at 60-65€ is gorgeous whisky
Great v pub as usual Roy, slightly behind and catching up bit by bit. Liked the shout out to the Murray McDavid bottle, had a few in the range and value stupidly good as is the Siren Bay at £54. Like to see MoM bottles get a mention as I’ve some seriously good single cask bottles from them. Look forward to Roddy appearing soon.
I really think Rachel Barrie is transforming Benriach slowly, I bought a 14yr PX from the distillery last year and it was my whisky of they year, unbelievable dram, the mouth feel and flavours were stunning 🥃
well.. in the spirit of sharing, I just discovered here in New Jersey, the Gordon Lain double barrel Islay and Highland - the one in the square bottle. It's delicious!
Echoing your sentiments on Talisker pricing. I tried Parley at a well known London bar, and was charged an eye for a dram, on a rare occasion when I went with my heart and not my head (Talisker is a guilty pleasure). Fast forward to the airport, and indeed, bought a bottle for £45. Online now? About £70. I do regret being carried away in the moment, but I'm very happy with the bottle under £50. On the topic of blending, I think you've had or have a Clynelish 14 and Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Finish. Try giving that a twirl 🥃
Weird whiskies. Very interesting comparison with Talisker. And more Wook intrigue. Great time and lots to look forward to like and an on-location vPub.

Fantastic show last night
Don’t forget Roy, we’re all waiting for the next recycle review 😊
I know David, getting close!
Enjoyed the stream. So much information. Cheers

I do love this stuff, but that was a genuine case of the community catching me out at my own game - and that's when it's really cool! Thanks Al
I went to sleep last night so I’ve just completed via catch up. Really excellent information and happily the monkey lost 3/6.
Haha! Terrific - you're getting the better of him! Thanks Michael as always!

Yes, plans ahead as always Carlos - I'm keen to try a wee blend of those two 'Talisker'-type whiskies... thanks for stopping by!
