When this came out I think I wore it out on CD singing along....Amazing though how 2 guys & 1 Guitar can take people on a journey of emotions when you have real talent.
Back in the day, when I bought the cd or tape (can’t remember which now), the rest of the album WAS A BIT OF A SHOCK!!! Wish they did more acoustic stuff.
Hi Scott ...G;day ! greetings from Australia ! My bands song "hit me so hard " is VERY much in this style - Please check it out if you love "more than words" czcams.com/video/SAXCthbzLBI/video.html
Nuno Bettencourt is an amazing, innovative guitarist, but also a great singer and songwriter. There's a video of Queen's guitarist Brian May praising Nuno's solo on Extreme's "Get The Funk Out", followed by a live performance of that song. You know you've reached Guitar God status when Brian May says the things he says about you in that video, however it always felt like Nuno never got the recognition he deserves from the rest of the guitar community.
Module79L Nuno is one of my favourite guitarists; he's so gifted & while he can shred with the best of them, his solos have always been melodic regardless... And you're absolutely right, he's never gotten the recognition he deserves. It's unbelievable. I LOVE the video in which Brian May raves about Nuno's solo in Get The Funk Out!! I came across it when I was searching for live Extreme videos (the Boston concert is *amazing!!!* ) & while I knew Extreme was friends with Queen back in the day (their set at the Freddie Mercury Tribute is PHENOMENAL!!) I didn't know it continued for that long! Seeing Brian so enthusiastic about it (I mean, the man is a god himself! And he's absolutely brilliant!) was just so endearing to watch. I saw Extreme live at a small festival in the very early 90s & it was one of the best concerts I've been to because of them! Meatloaf was there, Brian Adams was the headliner, plus there were other bands I can't recall, but Extreme blew everyone out of the water! Hopefully Nuno will someday get the accolades he very much deserves. *Sorry for the long comment, lol☺️

My son used to sing this song at the top of his lungs when he was a teenager, everytime i hear it it takes me back about 20 years and hes in his room belting it out. So nostalgic. Also a beautiful song
@@JorgeReyes-mq6le The song is a ballad in which the singer wants his lover to do more to prove her love other than saying the phrase "I love you." Bettencourt described it as a warning that the phrase was becoming meaningless: "People use it so easily and so lightly that they think you can say that and fix everything, or you can say that and everything's OK. Sometimes you have to do more and you have to show it-there's other ways to say 'I love you.'"
Brings back memories (not least of hair envy of these bands - damn they had such great hair)... always loved this song. And it makes me think of Mr Big (To Be With You) and Tesla (Signs) - my other favourite big "unplugged" songs of the day as well. The guy relaxing with his feet up, waving the cigarette lighter always amused me too.
Oh man thanks for reminding me of To Be With You! That was HUGE when I visited Germany as a teenager. I had to write down the words in English for my German buds :D
Saw Extreme open for ZZ Top back in the day. This was their final song. Loved it! They sat on the edge of the stage 6 feet from my wife and I and sang this song!
You hit the nail with the old school vibe. The Everly Brothers are right around the corner with this. Please compare to songs like "All I Want To Do Is Dream" 1958 or "Crying In The Rain" 1962. This was slightly atypical for the Extreme. They were first bands to combine funk and hard rock elements. The guys in the front are bassist Pat Badger (left) and drummer Paul Geary.
This song will always hold a special place in my heart. We played it at my wedding and the sermon was based on it and Matthew 5:16. Anyone can say they love someone and love the Lord, but "actions speak louder than words."
I was addicted to this song, when it came out, and played it so much, I am surprised my Walkman didn't break!!! LOL, yes Walkman, I am that old!!!!!! Thanks for sharing this golden oldie !!!
"Old School Harmonies"?? Crosby Stills and Nash. "Suite Judy Blue Eyes"... "Southern Cross".... "Helplessly Hoping".....Pick any one, you'll thank me later!
Modern Renaissance Man, you are helping me relive my youth! Every single reaction I've watched so far tonight has been music I listened to in my late teens/early 20's! Well done!!! Love your channel.
This song holds a special place in my life. This came out when I was in college. My friend looked just like Nuno Bettencourt and he played the guitar. I used to sing this song with him all the time. He’d always make me take the high part, even though I’m a natural alto. We’d sit outside on the steps of the apartment complex and sing the song. Just the two of us. Just friends. I haven’t seen him in over 25 years. No idea where he even is. Every time I hear this song, I think of him.
Neno is such an underrated guitarist. Got to see them in concert in 1992, they had replaced The Arc Angels on the concert list (who I had REALLY wanted to see), but these guys just rocked the place. Became an instant fan.

I was only a year old when this song came out, but I remember it being on the radio all the time when I was little, and I still seek it out regularly today. It reminds me of sitting with my parents in the kitchen of our old house, listening to the radio we had in there. Great memories. Really glad you liked this song man.
Modern Renaissance Man They sound like the the Everly Brothers from the 50’s and 60’s. “Love Hurts”(yes, that Love Hurts) and “Wake Up Little Susie” are classics and still great today. Please add to bingo ball for a surprising reaction
Thank you for reacting to my favourite band Extreme. This beautiful beautiful song was popular in 1991 when their second album Pornograffitti was released. It was the most played song on MTV. Nuno Bettencourt is in my opinion the best guitarist in the world. He is in his own league. This beautiful song takes me back to my study years when Extreme was my favorite band ( they still are ) and it always after all these years brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this video. ♥️♥️♥️
These guys warmed up for ZZ Top when I saw them. This was their last song, and they sat on the stage right in front of my wife and I. All of their other songs were heavy metal. This tune was amazing!
I love the other bandmembers off to the side doing their thing and when they break out their lighters and waved them in the air, lol!!!! That should tell you around the time this song came out...pre-cell phone era ;)
Hi from Bonnie Scotland, just to say Ty when you talk to the camera,it looks like you are talking each and every indiviual sererate which is a wonderful thing you have my friend. What i am trying to say that you are just talking to me alone, you create a wonderful empathy with people. The song you played i played it many times as a DJ, Best wishes always from Bonnie Scotland.
This is truly a piece of work. The lyrics are so wise and this harmony. I miss this time in music. Funny MRM. You make me feel so old but we are close to same age. This song came out when I was in jr high but I will never forget it. Fantastic.
High school girlfriend. This was one of the first songs I learned to play on my guitar, and my best friend, who was also a singer, worked it up with me and we sang it at a talent show. It went over very well. I still perform it regularly when I'm playing with someone who can handle the harmonies. Great song.
Have always loved this song by Extreme. You really should check out their performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute. They did a medley of Queen hits and were incredible!! Enjoyed this a lot.
In reference to Renaissance Man's question about the era difference between Simon and Garfunkled and Extreme, it was a 20 year difference. The Simon and Garfunkle song "Bridge Over Trouble Waters" i just saw him react to was a 1970 song, and this song in this video was 1990 or 1991. I was in college when this power ballad was a hit. Both songs seem old now, but they were a generation apart.

Oh, sweetheart, you make me feel so old sometimes. lol A year or so ago, I decided to heal myself, and that journey involves reaching back to the times in my life when I felt whole and happy...and then trying to recognize what I lost or gave up of myself as I got older, and bringing those joys back into my life. I stumbled on your site as I was following reaction videos and the joy you felt as you discovered MY old happiness just touched me. baylessnow I was 20 in 1992 I’m 46 now! What I’m saying is it is for kids these days, old skool, like for renaissance man has must be in early 20’s now. 😄
@@softshallow9463 I'm 42. And for me, there is no old skool. The good shit survives and the bad shit dies. To today's toddlers, however, old skool is last week. Older than that, and you'd have to go back to the beginning of time when stone age men had CDs. But no one is that old, right? They wouldn't be alive today. I mean, mom and dad were born in the 90s...................
Fun fact, they were originally named The Dream, but another band had that name, so they changed it to Extreme ( ex dream ) 👍🎶 I saw them locally when they were still The Dream...
This may be a little late but I just came across your channel. This is a great song from 1991! They also have two other awesome songs. "Whole Hearted" and "Decadence Dance". They are both more upbeat but never the less, they have the true 90's feel.
One of the biggest hit singles of the 90s. The guitarist had a million dollar insurance policy on his hands back then and now he is Rhianna's guitarist. Check out Get the Funk Out or He Man Woman Hater by Extreme.
IIRC, they recorded that in the late 90's. Simon and Garfunkel were most active in the late 60's and early 70's before they split and Paul Simon did so much on his own. Yeah, it is reminiscent of that folk rock vibe. But the metal / hair bands of the 80's also would take time out from their heavy rock to do ballads and love songs that were hits. So there's multiple roots going into this. Music is good for the soul.
Fantastic song.....great follow up on "Hole Hearted" by them as well. This was primarily a hard rock band and for a change they dropped it all for this song which ironically became their biggest hit BY FAR......
Our family had this played this at our Dad's funeral........he died at 52, in 1991 and my parents were divorced and he was an abusive alcoholic......and my sisters picked the song out, just to know that all he had to do was show us he loved us, without saying it.......we really never seen him, but out of respect, we all went to his funeral, and I'm crying as I type this.......so many Dad's walk away and you never see them again........but how can you Hate someone who created you??.......My EX did the same......left without telling me how he felt.......so you can interpet this song many ways.......and I'm telling you, a divorce feels like a death....especially after 26 yrs. together........
Your reactions are awesome... Especially some of the older songs you review your reactions are genuine which is why it's enjoyable watching these videos... But... I wish there was a reaction and a learning bit maybe I am weird and would be the only one wanting to see this in a reaction channel but it would be nice to see a song have an effect like this one does and then maybe go and Google the band a lot of the artists have passed on and there is a story there I just think it would be cool to see a song have an effect and an inspiration to research the band.. How they formed even if it was a minute at the end that was like "I looked them up and this is what I found" but your vidoes are wicked cool. Keep up the good work man.
How many girls back then and probably still found this song so romantic without seeing how tongue in cheek this is. Heck, I wonder how many times it's been used as a wedding song. :D Oh, and Nuno being such a great guitarist (Watch Get the Funk Out or He-Man, Woman Hater) gets completely overlooked as a vocalist.
Back when I listened to this for the first time, it was an actual record on a turntable. This was right before CDs and mp3s and whatever the media is now for music.

Thanks for the video MRM yeah this group extreme I could say that this song was their biggest hit but what a song huh MRM Thanks again 👉 keep up the great work your reactions are the best straight from the heart! Thanks again! 👉👊👏👍!
One of my favorite songs. When it came out, many ppl thought the song was limited to sex as an expression of love and dissed it. The band stated it was about how the words "I love you" were cheapened by repetition & love should be expressed in many ways and actions. Not to say that other words could also be an expression of love.
I wish they had had more hits ... maybe I missed some growing up I now want to look them up and explore more on them ... I loved this song growing up and still do .
I don’t like heavy metal, but I caught this on an MTV unplugged episode. I was impressed that heavy metal fellas really can sing and play an instrument. I mean, how can you tell with all that racket and screaming they normally do? Lol are these guys brothers? They look just alike. And their harmony sounds like family harmony.

Have you ever really loved a woman? By Bryan Adams and/or Wicked Game By Chris Isaak. Are songs that you should also check out.
I agree with you about Wicked Game... That was a very intense song when it came out.

The Chris Isaak version is so much better than the London Grammar cover, I honestly can't even force myself to listen to her cover of his song.

One of the biggest hit singles of the 90s. The guitarist had a million dollar insurance policy on his hands back then and now he is Rhianna's guitarist. Check out Get the Funk Out or He Man Woman Hater by Extreme.
If you want harmonies listen to Seals and Crofts Summer Breeze!
Amen girl !
Kokomo by The Beach Boys was good harmony too!
Yes
Type o version is hot too
I loved this song. It came out when I was in middle school. Lots of slow dances to this.
Beautiful reaction!
My 3rd time watching your reaction to this song. Love it!!!!❤🙏👆I wore the cassette tape of this one out!!
All reaction channels fall in to this though no one ever looks up what they are listening to.
I've watched this a dozen times and the hair pulls get me every time 😀
How many girls back then and probably still found this song so romantic without seeing how tongue in cheek this is. Heck, I wonder how many times it's been used as a wedding song. :D
Oh, and Nuno being such a great guitarist (Watch Get the Funk Out or He-Man, Woman Hater) gets completely overlooked as a vocalist.
They sound like the Everly Brothers when they harmonise
True
Another great song! Thanks for the reaction!
Great reaction! This song was our first dance at my wedding.
Back when I listened to this for the first time, it was an actual record on a turntable. This was right before CDs and mp3s and whatever the media is now for music.
So much more that Extreme can do. Awesome band. Thanks for the reaction 😊
I love that song and it makes me think of my husband. We used to listen to this together. We're just old now. lol
Hi patricia G;day ! greetings from Australia ! My bands song "hit me so hard " is VERY much in this style -
Please check it out if you love "more than words" czcams.com/video/SAXCthbzLBI/video.html
Loved the song and your reaction 👍🏻👏🏻🌟❤️‼️
Thanks for the video MRM yeah this group extreme I could say that this song was their biggest hit but what a song huh MRM Thanks again 👉 keep up the great work your reactions are the best straight from the heart! Thanks again! 👉👊👏👍!
I liked it too thanks for sharing your awesome videos with us. This is Ivana from Canada.
Now you gotta watch the jack black Jimmy Fallon version 👌
Doug Munis
That was hilarious
One of my very favorite! Harmony gives me goosebumps! I had teens and they listened to variety of music
I fully respect and get your introductions. Thumps up to you.
One of my favorite songs. When it came out, many ppl thought the song was limited to sex as an expression of love and dissed it. The band stated it was about how the words "I love you" were cheapened by repetition & love should be expressed in many ways and actions. Not to say that other words could also be an expression of love.
This reminds me of my 21st birthday partying at the chimney bluffs in NY. One of those nights with a spectacular sunrise.
When this song came out, I was married for just over a year & had a baby. That baby is now 28.
Play with Me, Mutha (Don't Wanna Go to School Today), Teacher’s Pet, and Kid Ego are all great songs off their debut album.
I wish they had had more hits ... maybe I missed some growing up I now want to look them up and explore more on them ... I loved this song growing up and still do .
Damn! I had the cassette single!! Used to listen to it in my car!
These guys are from my hometown! Wicked cool song!
✌❤🎶
I don’t like heavy metal, but I caught this on an MTV unplugged episode. I was impressed that heavy metal fellas really can sing and play an instrument. I mean, how can you tell with all that racket and screaming they normally do? Lol are these guys brothers? They look just alike. And their harmony sounds like family harmony.
I totally had this song when it came out and never got tired or Extreme. Their following album 3 Sides To Every Story was awesome too.
This was a great band, this song was not typical of the sound but typical of the talent.
I loved this song when this came out. Even though I was happily married with older teenagers, I got the head chills too lol.
Oh my gosh! I was a freshman in high school when this song came out!! Those were the days!!
Zhou good was that, your getting me to remember so much good music ,thank you
That song was from 1990.
