did i miss something or CGB shows one deck and plays another one, counted like 4 cards different from intro
Noticed the same thing too
You mentioned 20 lands in that game, so assuming that's true, the odds of the land-only draw given a 2-land starting hand are (18/53)*(17/52)*...*(12/47).= ~.02%, so you're likely to see this again if you just play another 5000 games 🙃
Good that i had 3 games like that in row.😅
True
You are thinking of it in paper magic terms and forgetting about algorithms built in to Arena to skew those numbers heavily.
It could be less than that IRL considering the way we shuffle.
@@vanikkan872 you need to buy a lottery ticket
CGB: I will mulligan this 1 land hand. Arena: Oh, you wanted more lands? Here, draw 8 in a row.
First Game: "How flooded so you wanna be?"
CGB: "Yes"
Second Game: Wanna see me do it again?
That game is totally me whenever I try to play an aggro deck like Mono Red or Boros
thats the mono red draw experience
Had 12 lands drawn in a 17 land deck in mtg arena. Something is def broken.
oh no, CovertGoRed is real and it can hurt us
CovertGoRed only draws mountains. You do not need to be afraid.
DANIEL WAGNER YOUR IN TIME OUT no no no bad CGB
Now meet his next iteration, OvertGoRed.
Nah, he’s MesaFalconGuy now.
You gotta know that wizards is actively watching him play red and trolling his draws on purpose. The math of this happening so much- you get better odds playing the lotto...
It's still higher odds than winning the lotto by a factor of a few thousand lol
CGB...you were the chosen one, you were supposed to defeat the monored, not become them.
Too late. He's "CGR" now
Bring balance to the color wheel, not leave it in redness!
CGB infiltrated the enemy to steal their secrets
im intentionally leaving the upvote at #66
35:03 What the heck! My favorite creator in english and portuguese! Who do I root for? 😅🤔 Love you both CGB and Umotivo!!!
The amount of nongames from land is silly.
Just as much luck based as a game like Phase 10, no?
AcHTuaLly, FoRcEd loSsEs aRe PArT oF ThE GamE
CGB playing mono red aggro is like a Paladin betraying his oath.
The 8 lands in a row was the punishment.
That "20 land deck by the way" hit close to home
35:03 WOW! My two favourite mtg content creators in a epic match just made my day!
Sorry CGB, but I got to confess that I, as brazilian, was cheering for Umotivo on this one heheh
Man, and he was using a deck that is not yet posted on his channel. Probably recording for it! What an amazing spoiler!
And all that with the final boss kinda music from the Urza stage! I'm so happy right now 🥹
Btw, I think that was a world record for land draws in monored on the other match. 😮
Watched your videos for years. Got to play against you and this deck last night. Thanks for for the honor!! 😉 You're the best.
52:04 Yoooooo that is me, I'm so happy to be in one of your videos I would say I'm sorry for playing mono red but you're playing it too so no questions.
53:45 Ps: I had game by pointing face instead of the creature, this is what mono red does to a magic player.
So sad he didn’t add my match with him 😢 I was playing boros convoke, so it’s understandable 😂
for the first game It is roughly a 1/25000 or .00004% chance that you flood that hard, shufflers fine.
forced losses are part of the game
@@zlkanglwrth2776 you're probably a lot of fun at parties
@@zlkanglwrth2776 you'll have trouble becoming a better player with attitudes like that
It’s kind of hard to not see that it is. I wish it was truly randomized but it’s not, especially when matchmaking. The first time I made a mill deck I faced two decks with 80 cards and the 3rd deck had 250 cards. Never seen that from previous games one single time.
I believe it tries to emulate a 'lazy' riffle shuffle. To do this, it sorts the list in various ways; sometimes mana value, sometimes colors, I think sometimes alphabetized or other ways. Then it separates that list into clumps of cards that *don't get shuffled*, which is the big problem, although I do believe there is a little weaving of the clumps sometimes (particularly with lands).
This is why if you see one card in a game, you'll almost always see another copy of it - even if it's a 2 of. It's why you might only have a few expensive cards but you'll still regularly get hands with all of them at once. It's why if you keep a 2-lander, you're gonna get screwed, and if you keep a 4-lander, you'll often get flooded. It means filtering/card selection and shuffle effects are even more important than in paper (or B03, possibly).
Two hours of CovertGoRed! I'm here for it.
That new mountain art is so beautiful that the developers made sure you reeeaaally could appreciate it
"It is mono red, they play mono red". That silly song kept echoing in my head while I was watching this. Nice😂
35:02 Yep, umotivo, might be the most known brazilian MTG content creator. Great player and really nice guy.
True that
Shuffler, you're not fine
If you do a Slickshot Showoff deck again you should try adding highway robbery. The extra plot card goes hard with a plotted showoff and it lets you sacrifice a land or pitch a land if you’re flooding out.
I think if you look at the VOD (OutLaws! Let's Go), at the beginning he shows what that deck had become (basically a red combo deck). I will look into it for sure. Question is, what do you cut?
@@alaingamache3908 I would cut the ancestral anger or the Godrick. The deck has plenty of 1 mana pumps, and plotting highway robbery just lets you pop off much harder the turn you do play slickshot show off. Cutting Godrick is also an option, I don’t think we really saw him in gameplay and he seems like an unnecessary top end if the payoff is a stormy pump turn.
I'm fine with this. I enjoy to see the whole variety of the standard meta on this channel.
It's interesting to hear a professed Red Aggro hater say, "I'm going to take this deck all the way to Mythic!" I think it's indicative of how much of a grind this game is. The reason why Mono-Red is so popular is because it's an easy way to level up. In nearly all cases the game is over in 3-5 minutes. When your grinding that's pretty appealing. I wish they'd come up with a way to make the game more appealing to players who want to choose more diverse options instead of just win, win, win. Must win! ~ Thanks CGB for the great content!
Not only that, but aggro decks are consistently winning in that time frame as well, meanwhile when you play a control deck, you can legit still lose after 10+ minutes to bad draws even if you were winning in the beginning, sometimes you just never stabilize and end up losing after playing a7+min match
So true, its either aggro right now or decks that go over the top that take 15-20 59:30 minutes to win a game, you can also play the 2 card combo but that gets old and boring fast. @WitnessedOne
playing control so often the shuffler thinks you must want lands
8:05 surreal ^^ mono-red deck is getting vengeance on you Covert ;)
6:20 there’s something seriously wrong with the shuffler these days. I’m playing mardu angels and in most of the games I’m like drawing 8 lands in the first 5 turns.
great job keeping your composure. Nothing tilts me quite like getting mana flooded.
That first game was incredible. 0.005% that this happens to you in a game.
That's about 10% chance that this happens to you every 2100 games you play, roughly about 50% chance that this happens to you every 14000 games...
8 straight lands in a 20 land deck there is an VERY normal day in arena. But hey, the shufflers fine. Then another game with tons of lands make it even better!
Looks like you broke the shuffler on that first game lmao. LANDS EVERYWHERE!!!
The flood game: the math is so incredibly unlikely that I can only assume that as a dedicated control player, CGB accidentally put 27 or 28 lands in his deck forgetting it was a low curve
Question, I'm new to magic and I'm wondering if an enemy has a lot of removal or is it a blue player and its counter, how can I proceed with this deck?
Arena is like the wwe. you know the outcome is predetermined but still are shocked by how well the plan plays out for the game
Why is Foretell face down and Plot face up. Doesn't make any sense 😂
“8 straight lands” my experience with aggro 😢
Watching that first game reminded me of a game I played two days ago where I had the opposite problem. I was playing mono blue artifact/aggro with 20 lands, kept a two land hand, and didn't see another land until i had 38 cards left in the deck. I didn't even draw the land. I got milled by restless reef and the bottom two of the four cards milled were lands. Then i drew another non-land card and it was over.
You either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain.
That first game is what you get for converting to the Mono Red side. 😂😂😂
I never see cgb happier than when he plays brawl. congrats on 200k and it makes me happy too
And people still claim the shuffler isn't rigged...
That first game man. Holy crap, if I hadn't seen it happen on video...When your flood becomes so bad it cycles back around to being hilarious instead of devastating...
Hello everyone. The Deck in the Video is not the same on the Link from Moxfield. How can I get the Deck from the Video :-) ?
Are we splashing for white 1/1 fliers though?
Why are the mono red decks always such long videos😂
Edit: Dear lord that first game was painful omg
But was it longer than the average blue control deck game?
@@faceoctopus4571 there hasn't been a 1:45:00 control deck video in a loooong time my guy
8:00 - Remember, MtG's lead designer thinks the mana system is one of the BEST things about magic.
19:47 “It’s so much damage! They’re just lil’ shocks!” Haha
Always fun to see an appearance by OvertGoRed.
This is the kind of thing that made me stop playing Arena altogether after the LOTR set. Complete with the 8 straight lands off the top. I'm born in 1984, played some Magic as a teen, even got to Grand Prix Lisboa 1998. I was Blue White from the start (before "Azorius" was ever a thing). I had a great time learning the game and learning statistics alongside it, but then real life caught up to me I was in University, I couldn't afford spending time with the game. After a few years I occasionally got back into the game, first or MTGO, then Arena. A big part of this was the Innistrad sets, the first Innistrad set was awesome not only on cards and mechanics but also the lore and all the work WotC did showing off the different locales on the Plane, what a dream time that was.
More "recently" I got back to Magic with Arena after the longest of hiatus, because of Midnight Hunt. I was greeted to a wondrous new world with Arena. Things looked great, nice set, awesome new client with graphics up the wazoo, ease of use, etc etc. Going back to limited was a blast, even when I was poor I thought it the best way to play the game, levelled field and all. Then of course you get to accrue a collection of cards and craft the ones you lack and you get into Standard. Bo1 is the easiest to get into, so sure. But then mono-red is your day to day and then they cancelled the rotation and it got super downhill from there. I stopped having fun with Magic.
There's no space for deckbuilding, it's as cutthroat and as fast as you can imagine. Either you are onboard with that or you are way over the top smart the likes of CGB here to survive. I'm not that smart, I'm slightly above average if I'm feeling confident, so there is no space for me here when I'm trying to explore different ways to play Magic.
CGB, I appreciate your work very much, I was a Patron for months, I forget how many, but I'm not sure I can go back to Magic anytime soon. Maybe call me when there's an actual rotation, but I'm so traumatized by mono-red I can only take Magic on YT these days.
My all time favourite moment in Magic is the Pro Tour Avacyn Restored - that Miracle deck sure was something original and exciting. Definitively not turn 1 Kumano....
Why not lightning bolt instead of lightning strike? Am I missing something?
got to love the stats on those land draws that would never happen back to back in any probability meter lol but cant ever blame the shuffler lol
were you playing blakes all land deck?
Why the deck from the begining is diferent than that you played? Misha and the spell that does 5 of damage
someone at wizards is purposly trying to destroy arena by manipulating the shuffler maybe there purposly pushing everyone back to paper
I dont think sometimes it is even real people you are playing, just some scripted hand and draw for a bot that you can't beat. Sometimes I will have a opponent play something like duress or bats and INSTANTLY pick, even a good player takes a couple seconds to look at board state to decide. Or an opponent I played ranked who had a 240 card deck completely on curve vampire tribal with mana fixing for all their crazy huge spells they drew after a few turns. I could go 30 cards deep into my 60 card deck looking for 1 of 4 of a card
Thanks for sharing the incredible draws in those beginning games. In a sad way, it's good to know it happens to others. And removal.dec with it's full house of 3 cut downs and 2 go for the throat.
a shuffler's fine moment if ive ever seen one
The flood was real!
I've had pretty good luck running 18 lands in my mono-red decks.
I was almost thinking of playing some arena again since it's been awhile, then the first two games reminded me why I quit
Yep the scripted loses where a huge reason I quit.
I'm really close to quitting, too. Which game(s) have you switched to if any?
@@ao_qd I went back to HS, it was fine until its not anymore ... (as of yesterday)
Your reaction to the 5th straight land on 6:15. lol. That's usually where I lose my shit. 8 lands in a row! BWHHAAAA!
Fblthp studied the sacred arts of "Big Enough"
Yes come to the red side of the color pie! We have anger management issues! 😂😂😂
I think there is a bug, all night I have been getting either no lands or all lands. It is driving me batty.
Did you forget to renew your Shuffler Premium subscription with the new set?
CGB forgot to tell the guy he bribed at Wizards programming department that he wants an aggro amount of lands now.
Just when I built boros
convoke, this bird shows up and crushes me
My favorite RDW was RNA pre WAR release. Runaway steam kiln with 4x wizard lighting, 4x scewer the critics, 4x light up the stage, and 4x Ghitu Lavarunner. My deck had 18 lands and only ever needed 3 lands to win on turn 3.
Cool new intro! It's an update since the Kamigawa theme
"That's you. That is how you sound" 🤣😂
why does the decklist in the link and in the intro show no squee, but you're playing with squee?
Hmm where is the decklist for this deck? The one in the start of this video isnt right! :S
This version of RDW seems pretty solid. How would you change it for BO3?
that first game flooding thou
Honest question - why isn't twinferno played in more mono red decks?
All those lands in that first game had me cackling
The Fblthp emote is from a song called "Big enough", where a dude in a cowboy hat belts at the top of his lungs, recommend giving it a listen, on stream ofc.
Watching this, it's hard not to believe the shuffler is biased against mono red
That ending ❤ he said the line!
33:38 - This would be one of those "Mono red always has it" moments from the opponent's perspective.
Fblthp's emote appears to be a shoutout (no pun intended) to the song "Big Enough" (I forget the artist's name but it'll be first result if you search it). This song has been memed to hell and back because it features almost a minute of ethereal-looking cowboys in the sky just screaming. Enjoy!
The first set of official Lorcana tournaments are this weekend and I decided to sleeve all the fam’s decks in Ultimate Guards instead of Dragon Shields this time around to reward the sponsors! They help the content, I’m happy to help them! Now they better make me win!
CovertGoLand darn those were tough
Did you make a bug report?
If anyone is curious, Umotivo is brazilian, gonna look for the mounts video in his channel as soon as this is over, to watch it from the other side
oof I felt that first land flood game, that's a big feels bad.
What do you need 20 lands for? Too many
I think the Fblthp emote is a reference to the music video of Big Enough for those who are still wondering :D
I only can say that the shuffler is not broken... it's non-existent.
Twinferno goes so hard in this deck! Suprised you didn't put it in.
That first game was pure comedy.
The elderaine board on arena looks like a hearthstone board.
First 2 game said "you can't run out of gas if you never had any in the tank!"
I truly think plot should allow you to exile them face down so u can actually hide what you're plotting
Epic Flood! Noah would be jealous.
Blue did have a simple solution to the standard red deck, but slickshot is absolutely disgusting lol
How the heck did that land draw happen
Ferocification is really good. Won some drafts with it.
It seems he has turned his faith to the dark side, or I guess the red side.
I played an Atraxa once and hit all lands. I wish i had that luck in Vegas.
I think that if I got the member shoutout on CGB's mono red video, id probably quit magic for ever
the fblthp emote is him singing big enough by Kirin J Callinan
I knew it! CGB has a red soul!
