Corsair was kind enough to send me a replay of a Bomber Escort mission from this weekend against all bots that they almost lost. What went wrong? What went right? Let's find out.
Great feeback, thank you sir! Two big takeaways for me, things that I never thought of before (and will hopefully make the next round of Bomber Escort even more enjoyable for me): 1. I generally ignore the GAAs and low flying stuff because I didn't think about how helpful the AA can be in whittling down the attack flights. I should have, given the number of Bomber Escort battles I've played flying GAAs - that Stronghold AA is nasty! 2. I rarely pay attention to the respawn points (even in Conquest mode), besides knowing they move around during the course of the battle. And as you pointed out, I spent a lot of time near the respawns. I was completely oblivious to where I was sending the planes I dispatched. Those two points are so obvious now that you highlighted them. Shooting too soon is a bad habit of mine that I'm trying to break. There are certain planes (like the I-250) where you absolutely want to hold your fire if you want to be successful, so I know how to do it....when I make a conscious choice. I agree that the Bomber Escort mode can seem to be overwhelming at first, but I totally see your point on slowing things down and being more strategic in thinking. My map awareness in general is really good sometimes....other times I might as well be a deer in headlights. As I like to say, the only thing consistent for me is my inconsistency :). Lots of really great feedback for me (and hopefully others who are learning this game) to work on incorporating, so thank you for taking the time to do it. One of the reasons I enjoy your videos is because you explain the why of what you do, not just the how. BTW, Piccalow had an input control problem at start (the system wasn't responding to his control inputs), so his plane decided to go away from the bombers, and it took him a few seconds at the start to get it squared away, which is why he wound up by himself in the corner :)
The input problem makes sense! I was scratching my head on that one! I hope you and anyone else viewing will take to heart that I teach best the things I am still learning myself! These are issues I'm trying to master right now, so they tend to be the things that leap off the page for me, so to speak!
That's really the point of the video. He came very close to losing to nothing but bots. The question was why that happened and how to keep it from happening again!

Love it! Best thing to do with the bomber formations is to not attack from behind. Any other aspect is better. Other than that, awesome battle!
