Jordan's reaction (and Jim White's) is utter drivel because Guardiola isn't accusing anyone of arrogance. He's merely pointing out that ever week the main focus is on the referees when it should be on the players.

You're right the focus should be on the players that spend a good portion of the game:
      -Diving
      -Faking injury
-Throwing themselves to the ground after the slightest touch
-Claiming every throw in and corner despite knowing 100% that it's not theirs
      -Timewasting
-Screaming at the ref, the assistants and the 4th official every time they get called for a foul, like children.
      -Generally being pathetic little cheats.
Put those players in front of the camera and ask them about those things. No you would rather have the refs on every week for the mistakes they make because the refs are supposed to be 100% correct each time despite the fact that 50% of the 112 or so calla they make in a game are subjective and will split peoples opinions.

I don’t know if any one notices this but however I will make mention of it
1)last season arsenal were docked 5 points by controversial VAR decisions city ended up winning the league by 5 points
2)the season before that Rodri had a clear handball denied against Everton if that game is drawn Liverpool win the league instead of losing by a point everton had an apology after that game I say all of that to say this man city was never issued with an apology because they don’t suffer the brunt of those controversial decisions and I guarantee that that’s not a coincidence

If there is a group or individual in a position of power or authority, Simon's prejudice is to defend them and attack any critics who come from lesser positions of authority as having no basis for their arguments, and being incapable of having the capacity to judge those above them.

The problem isn’t VAR, the problem is the protocols around it that determine how it is used. Rugby, cricket, NFL and others have sorted this out after going through pain themselves. The fact that there was confusion regarding the actual decision the lads in the box were adjudicating tells me the protocols are flawed. And that felt they could not interrupt the game once it was restarted. I don’t think this was incompetence, but that the process is ambiguous and deficient.

Too much regional misrepresentation too. Officials involved in games with their ‘local’ region or ones involving arch rival regions. Chris Kavanagh from Manchester doing VAR did not send off Harry Kane in the first half v Liverpool in 21/22 season despite a clear red. Same VAR official who let Onana off his foul against Wolves. PGMOL apologised twice to Arsenal last season when Lee Mason (Greater iManchester) disallowed Arsenals opening goal at Old Trafford & then ‘forgot’ to draw offside lines in their game with Brentford. If it is coincidence fine, but let’s consider potential risk with so many referees from the North West & potential for bias even if it’s unconscious.

What TalkSport has missed in it's pursuit of lambasting Pep(and City) any way possible. Is that he started out sympathising with the refs, by saying VAR has changed their roles. The on field decision was wrong and in the end VAR didn't correct it. Almost everyone is in agreement that in many respect VAR is taking away from the excitement(players and fans waiting to celebrate) and mistakes like this will only make it worse. The point being it needs to improve, we shouldn't have to talk about the refs or VAR so much and he's right. He also said he doesn't know the answer and doesn't care, other people are paid to take care of that(humble enough Simon?). He's made it clear before that they make rules without any consultation of manangers or club captains anyway, so why should he even give his input/opinion(especially when outlets like TalkSport misconstrue it for headlines and clicks...).
Pep was prodded for a response and reluctantly gave one and this is the result we have. Simon with his "YOUR players cheating, diving, time-wasting"(defo has it in for City)... That's what he was really waiting for the excuse to say. Except City players get fouled a lot and they timewaste the least because City have the ball the most. Wasn't there a stat showing City's games had the highest amounts of ball in play time? The same data they used to change the time added on protocol... and he's there with his 'YOU', 'YOUR' spite tone he normally uses for Hearn. Mr Self Awarness.

Just cancel the offside rule completely which will make defenders pay more attention to what is going on as opposed to holding a line to try and catch out the attackers. Much more interesting game tactically. Same for everyone. Must find reasons to keep the game flowing as opposed to rules to stop it. Try it in the lower leagues. It would certainly improve defenders awareness and marking skills,

it wasn't too long ago when a player was off-side if he was in an off-side position no matter whether he was involved in the the play or not, because by being in that position required a defender to keep an eye on him, therefore he WAS INTERFERING in the play, there was never any disputes or arguing, and the linesman's flag went up straight away not 30 seconds later just to see if they had gained an advantage, handball was handball if you gained an advantage ie: if the ball hits your hand or arm and you gain possesion accidental or not - close distance irrelevant, everybody knew the rules and nobody could argue against that, the problem is nobody has got the nerve to admit that the rule changes have been wrong. i know it will never happen because a lot of todays fans have never seen the old off-side and handball rules in operation but they need to go back to the old rules . in this instance these var officials are obviously not watching the game because they didn't even know what the ref had blown for and couldn't even agree with each other when play re-started. they should be sacked and then get rid of var.

Maybe his general point was, there is too much attention on VAR, criticise but once they've admitted a mistake move on and let them get on with rectifying it/preventing it from reoccurring by improving their process. I'll also say, City were on the wrong end of game changing mistake last weekend too(two orange card fouls first half for the match winner, only one yellow card) but sky brushed it under the carpet(gaslighting fans with former ref nonsense takes that don't match the replay footage), MOTD didn't even show it(fast cut, drawing attention away from mistakes). Wolves themselves and host of non-big six teams have had to accept costly mistakes already this season too, very little coverage of them them and I'm not sure any acknowledgement of a mistake was given by PGMOL for those either. Refs should be invisible in a perfect world. The world is not perfect but the ref's should not be given more prominence, If refs are clearly seen to be incompetent or biased, there should be a penalty. It's this above the law appearance that needs to be addressed.

It's about protocols. The protocols should never allow this to happen. If there were protocols and he did not follow them he should be retrained or even sacked.
I strongly suspect there were no such protocols and that PGMOL are just a shambles of an organisation.
Also why is it that the Liverpool and Man City managers are at the forefront of this? Why did this not happen last season when Newcastle, Brighton and West Ham, amongst many others, suffered from outrageous decisions? It's because they are not in the so-called Big 6. It's sheer hypocrisy from those two.

I came across a study comparing women judges and men judges, which found that, on average, women judges prioritize justice while male judges prioritize upholding the law. Interestingly, the recent Liverpool game underscored this distinction as the VAR officials were focused on the game's rules rather than matters of justice. Perhaps it's worth considering the introduction of more women referees and women linesmen and VAR assistants.

  • @chriscooper4205
    @chriscooper4205 Před 7 měsíci

From a Liverpool perspective, Man City is a club that pipped them to the title three times in eight years for a combined points differential of four.
All their financial breaches that are going ignored are no doubt worth those 4 points imo.
When you consider that, how can you be surprised about the uproar regarding this 'accident' regarding the Diaz goal against Tottenham. With the other dubious calls that game, could well be 3 points dropped not just 1. Clearly those points are significant.
How do you not expect people to be suspicious about officials visiting the UAE and returning to officiate a game in this manner? Honestly not one word about investigating them for corruption?
Just because those involved in the industry can't say that kind of thing, for fear of being discredited and damaging the integrity of the sport that earns them a living, doesn't mean it's not an obvious thing to investigate.

Guardiola is right. The referees are arrogant, because that arrogance is their defence against their own incompetence. They are not trying to implement the law, they are trying to seize control of the game, for their own interests. Guardiola couldn't accept on-field decisions because the decisions were wrong. I think no manager should accept bad refereeing, because no sports commentator accepts bad coaching/managing. So if this panel is so fast to talk about a manager not accepting the actual state of refereeing, they should reflect about their own actions. I think that sports commentators are one of the big problems with the actual state of football, since they talk smack about everyone and everything but refuse to accept the responsability of what their commentary actually generates: doubt, conflict and aggression to name but three off the top of my head. I, for one, would like to see Simon Jordan off his spot, because I think he is inept for that position. How do you like them apples, now? (Please note the ironic point I'm trying to get accross, I have nothing against Simon Jordan)

"continuously get them incorrect." where are you getting this from? how many 100% non debatable calls have the refs gotten wrong? And how many they got right? I'm confident that the "right" category is gonna win out by a long way here. The only reason you think this is because when they get it wrong it's all anyone talks about, hell even when it's not 100% and people are split on what the correct call is (Like with almost ALL big calls) it's still ALL PEOPLE TALK ABOUT! This is the doing of the media and the people NOT the refs.

Many flight accidents have occurred in history with extremely experienced pilots simply because the main pilot had a bit of tiredness and the copilot was 'afraid' to correct the main pilot's mistake or inform them of it. This is exactly what happened here. The VAR ref was too afraid to tell the on field ref he'd got it wrong.
