    really enjoyed the video, wish you had more i could learn from, can fix most of the things that i have ran across, but when my fuel pump goes out, now i will know how to check it..Thanks...

    just fyi, it's easier to tap into the secondary housing to check fuel pressure with a gauge. The pumps never fail, if you have a lack of fuel pressure, you'll typically find a problem with the drive gear off the air compressor. Is that what you ultimately found here?

      Mr. Slow that's what I wanna know. thanks for the tip btw. I have one now and they're a dying breed at my company due to age/fuel consumption. but I wanna make it last so I'm trying to learn all I can about this engine. mines spitting and sputtering and blowing black some around 12 to 1300 rpm. any thoughts?

      @@scottskinner577 my series 60 had a special spot on the throttle were it would fill the parking lot with white smoke i could drive it all over the usa but if i held it in that special spot it would act up turns out it was a leaking injector cup that was putting air in the fuel and leaking fuel into the cylinders rebuilt the head and problem was solved but u said black smoke. so this is just food for thought

    if you have a vac pump such as his, there is NO need to put your lips on any damn fuel line . step 1 see if fuel in tanks step 2 turn key to "on" watch for red and yellow lights to come on and go off. step 3 spin the engine and see if the tach moves. if not the crank sensor is bad (the TRS). step 4 start diagnosis on fuel system. on the starter I doubt the fuel pump will make 60 psi- more like 15-25. it would be easier to put 1 to 2 psi in the fuel tank to push fuel up to the pump. and btw always use the engine serial number to purchase the proper fuel pump. Detroit has several different pressures and flows so get the correct one b4 you build a new problem. on the suction side 1-3 # vac new filter and 8-12 # vac on a plugged filter

      @vicpetrishak7705 Před 11 měsíci

      If the fuel tank is pressurized isolate the return fuel line and plug the tank fitting . Without doing this procedure you will be pressurizing the fuel inlet and fuel return at the same time .

    • @firstname6208
      @firstname6208 Před 11 měsíci

      @@vicpetrishak7705been pressuring the fuel tanks for 40 years, not once isolated the return line, they always primed and started because the return line has a ck valve. It prevents the head from emptying when the engine is off.

  • @triden55

    you can go to any auto parts store and buy a 100 lb. gauge and the brass adapters.
    For a hose you can use a grease line from a grease gun and couple them together for more length or go to Princess auto or a hydraulic place and make up a hose.
    The vac. gauge is a snapon vacuum pump , but you should be able to buy just the vacuum gauge at the auto parts store.
    Or if you feel rich you can go to the snap on truck and buy the works. You can buy fuel pump test kits at some auto parts stores.

    When I come to a red light When I come from a trip like about 3 hours away the truck seems like it wants to stall like it want to shut off and it does it for like three to five seconds lately it's getting a little worse So iam wondering Could the fuel pump is getting bad or is the fuel filter needs to be changed Thank you.

  • @mariorodriguez640
    @mariorodriguez640 Před 10 lety

    How is it a 500hp?
    Is it a 12.7 or 14 litter
    I have a ddec3 detroit 12.7 and want way more power than what I have.
    I have only like 430 with a suoer 10 trans
    Thanks

    • @miket6978
      @miket6978 Před 9 lety +2

      Depends on a lot of things injector / nozzle size, computer program, cam shaft, injection timing / control pressure, turbo charger boost pressure.
      A simple computer programmer could safely add up to 50 hp with a stock motor. beyond that you probably need to change injectors and other engine components. There's really no simple answer, diesels are much more complex than many people realize.

    • @mariorodriguez640
      @mariorodriguez640 Před 9 lety

      Thanks Mr.Mike. ;)
      I would like 600-700hp
      But would like to start with 500hp.
      I just wish there were combos already set up.
      But no one has no combos out.
      I bought the bully dog hd gt programer only to fond out it won't work on my truck. Cuz its an old modle. That it needs to be at least a 1998.
      I dont understand. There are some 98 and 99 with a 12.7 ddec 3 motors?
      Do dont know why it won't eork on mine.
      Thanjs for ur post :)

    • @Calvinmetal
      @Calvinmetal Před 8 lety +3

      +Mario Rodriguez if you want 600-700 you had better have a heavy wallet. if you want your engine too last you'll need different connecting rods, positions, injectors, exhaust manifold, turbo, and you'll have to reprogram your ecm with aftermarket programming. Detroit ecms can only go up to roughly 550 depending on programming and software. if you have an egr engine, you'll also need to defeat the egr system and plug it. most I've personally seen on a dyno was 680. my suggestion is to shoot for good fuel economy. ;)

      It very well can be a 500 hp. Trust me my Dad owned about 10 different 12.7 liter 60 series detroit and they ranged anywhere from 450 hp to 470-500 hp. Ive got one now in a 2003 freightliner century class 12.7 liter 500 hp at around 1500- 1750 ft lbs. Of torque
