- Come Out Ye Black And Tans - The Wolfe Tones (Cover) by Seth Staton Watkins
It's finally here! I know many of you have requested a full version of this song for a few weeks now and I apologize for the delay.
"Come Out Ye Black and Tans" is an Irish rebel song about the Irish war of independence. The "black and tans" refers to the color of the uniform worn by the British reinforcements stationed in Dublin to reinforce the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) in 1920. The song was written by Dominic Behan as a tribute to his Irish Republican Army (IRA) father Stephen, who had fought in the War of Independence. The song though referencing the war of independence is about the dispute between republican and unionist neighbors in inner-city Dublin in the Irish Free State era of the mid-1920s.

I’m Indian and my partner is of English descent. She made the mistake of inviting me to an Irish wedding and we all started singing this song, her side of the family was not impressed but I had a whale of time.
Excellent!
Love to hear it 😂
Its good ye chose the right side then lol and dont forget irelands leader is half east indian very good people and hard workers all
Hahaha bloody Protestants up to no good as usual 😂😂😂 Erin go bragh brotha
theres an unquestionable depth of blood between Irish and english. Even after the revolution there was The Troubles. The bombings. the killings. Still a very fresh wound.
“show your wife how you won medals down in flanders” is such a badass and raw fucking line when you know the history of this song and who the black and tans were. great rendition man!
I've been looking online to find out what this means but I can't can you inform me.
@@camerondiflo3828 this song was (probably) written during the Irish war of independence. During the Civil war the Black and tans were a British paramilitary forces trying to stop the nationalists and committed war crimes. The line means that you show your medals to your wife during WW1 in flanders since all of the soldiers in the black and tans were WW1 veterans.
@@austrianempireguy4344 thanks
@@camerondiflo3828 no problem
@@austrianempireguy4344 pretty spot on. The black and tans were part of the RIC
As a proud irish man I just wanted to say that many people dislike this song, many people may tell to leave these to the Irish but I don't want you to ever stop, I follow your tiktok and I understand you have a love for our country and I can feel the respect you have for the words you say, I recommend "she moved through the fair"! Keep up the incredible sound!
Thank you, I will!
I'm Welsh and I think this songs great
As an American hell yeah
I am an American by birth, but Irish by blood, I think Rebel songs and art have great value.
I see nothing but love for this song
Never thought an American would do a worthy cover of Come Out Ye Black and Tans. Fair play boyo
Thank you laddie
I mean we fought the English too 😂
@@slimmestjim7517 Who didn't 😂
We fought them too and tried to take our land and rights and we didn’t let them and I as a Mexican American/Native American catholic see them as a common enemy we need a brexit but an Irish one where England is brought to its knees
@@yayuman3486 Fair point, but who didn't fight the British? This song was made by the IRA, or the Irish Republican Army, so it's seen as an Irish song
My dad used to sing this to me when I was a little girl as a lullaby... I miss you daddy I hope you are safe and happy in heaven.
I’m an Irishman and this song makes me just feel more alive than ever.
You're a tough bunch.
Today (8 Sept 2022) is the perfect day to listen to this on loop
I don't know why I suddenly felt the urge to listen to this on this lovely 8th of September day in 2022.
It's a holiday
From a 3rd generation American born of two families coming here on boats from Ireland, the songs you sing bring me back to my childhood. I grew up hearing many of them as we worked our ranch
My grandfather fought in the Hungarian revolution of '56, so songs of freedom, rebellion, and independence hold a special place in my heart.
It seems to me that most Hungarians have forgotten their past. It's unbelievable how far the Magyars have fallen now under Orban.
@@Nhkg17In a way it's understandable. We never had a successfull rebellion, I think after 3 big fails the nation just collectively gave up.
Lyrics!!!
I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums did beat
And those loving English feet they walked all over us
Oh and every single every night when me da would come home tight
He'd invite the neighbors out with this fine chorus
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders
Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
Come tell us how you slew them old Arabs two by two
Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows
Oh, how you bravely faced one with your sixteen pounder gun
And you frightened them poor natives to the marrow
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders
Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
Come let us hear you tell how you slammed the great Pernell
And thought him well and truly persecuted
Where are the smears and jeers that you loudly let us hear
When our leaders of '16 were executed?
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders
Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
Oh the time is coming fast and I think those days are here
When those English Johnny's heels will run before us
Oh if there be a need then our kids will say 'godspeed' with a verse or two of singing this fine chorus
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders
Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders
Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra
It's lanes of Killashandra. He's saying lakes but he's wrong.
Thank you!
What does English Johnny's heels mean?
@@henrichgerken4254 I think the original lyrics say "Seonín traitors" Seonín is Irish for little John which was slang for English after "John Bull" it's. It's just saying the English will be running away.
@@marshallferron thanks mate
Halfway there! Just get to iTunes so I can give you my money!
I clicked on this (recommended by CZcams) expecting not to like it. I was blown away! Thanks algorithm.
Glad you liked it!
I have the same story lol
I love this tune for certain though.
Absolutely outstanding singing Seth, this is the best version of the song I've ever heard, I'm not joking. I also love the at use use editing to make the sort of echo behind it. New fan from Derry ☘🇮🇪
Thank you, friend!
These days, it's increasingly rare to find artists who haven't been corrupted by the system and don't just kiss up to it. However, I recently stumbled upon Seth Staton Watkins, and I'm not only captivated by his incredible vocal abilities and sound, but also by his humanity and activism for what's right. Such integrity is rare in today's world, where many artists seem to sell their souls to blend in with the corrupted system controlled by powerful lobbyists. I have two loves: Palestine and Ireland.
Been waiting for this ❤️ this is favourite ever version of this song. Happy Easter from Ireland 🇮🇪
Happy Easter to you as well!
it's good but ist's missing last chorus.

That’s make me feel Irish

A fine Irish woman, too I bet!
My ancestors hail from Province Connaught, and I showed to some cousins over there and they loved it.
Love those iconic Irish harmonies...
My grandfather left Ireland because he was sick of the heavy british boot. FREE IRELAND! 🇮🇪
Where did he immigrate?
Ireland is free Ireland is split by two democracies the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom change my mind
@Kacey McGurgan it’s free real estate
@Kacey McGurgan no it was a group of people who went and caused chaos cause of a piece of land that wasn’t owned by ireland
Never forget what happened last century 😔
Seth you are such a remarkable young man! I so appreciate and enjoy every song that I've heard you perform. Proud too to have Irish blood running through my veins thanks to my grandmother from County Wicklow. God bless you.
This is a piece of history. To ignore history, to not face it, is to repeat it. People may not like to face the ugliness of what has gone before, but that doesn't detract from it's worth.
Bro as someone who's part Palestinian and knows what the Irish have gone thru, this pumps me up for greater hope! Thanks for everything you do mate
Love and surport for Palestine from Ireland 🇮🇪❤🇵🇸
Palestine has been of a great help in the irish rebellion.
Glory to both of them!

Me, an American: “Yeah of course we’ve had conflict in the past but England’s our ally now.”
Me after hearing this song: *wants to siege Buckingham Palace*
I mean you could burn it how they burnt the white house
Same though
I'm English, I will join you in siege of Buckingham. No-one hates the English military, government and royalty like us English!

@@alexis8500 I'll betray my country for cheap, just get me some of those American poptarts and we're good to go. If you need someone on the inside, I'm yer lad.
This is the best rendition of a classic. It takes guts and talent to set the bar higher on such a popular song.
True
This is probably the best version of this song that I have heard. I found you on CZcams yesterday and hope you keep producing traditional music like this.
I found out im a bit Irish. I wont claim to hve any ties to the place but fuck i love songs like this. it just sounds right
I'm in the same boat, but my grandma found out that part of my family came to America in chains
If you're a bit Irish then you have ties to the place ;) Don't let the naysayers tell you otherwise. The blood & history still run in your veins :)
If you don't know your clan, or any of those kinds of family ties, there are clans made for those who have light/no genetic ties to Ireland. The irish are an accepting people and as long as your respectful, it is more than appropriate to enjoy everything and anything that the culture has to offer
"how bravely you faced one with your 16 pounder gun" that line always sounds sarcastic to me
Because it is!
It is, they would use technology lightyears ahead of the native force to have an easy victory.
It very much is sarcastic.
That's the point.....
"Lovely english feet" and the story with the Arabs are sarcastic, too. The Empire has given back a lot yet, starting with Palestine, Hongkong as well and there's still a lot more to give back.
I'm playing a game mode in Arma where I'm a small resistance faction and this is definitely going to be a part of the soundtrack
I'm not even Irish and this song makes me want to to go fight every Englishmen I see
To be fair 90% of the world fought the englishmen at one point or another XD

@@ItsOrganicDontPanic What nation exists that isnt? Nations are built on blood and power, it's the foundation that our modern lives are built upon.
@@HeronMarkedBlade-ef7zz yes but the British empire literally was worse than Germany during the 30 and 40's...it's not an excuse "saying everyone did it", because you still see people remembering in good ways their bloody empire.
