CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Riggs (Mel Gibson) handcuffs himself to a suicide jumper and then jumps!
FILM DESCRIPTION:
L.A. cop Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson), whose wife has recently died, is a loose cannon with a seeming death wish. This makes him indispensable in collaring dangerous criminals, but a liability to any potential partners. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), a conservative family man who wants to stay alive for his upcoming 50th birthday, is partnered with Riggs. As Riggs gets to know Murtaugh and his family, he begins to mellow, though his insistence on using guerilla tactics to catch criminals is still (put mildly) above and beyond the call of duty. The main villain is The General (Mitchell Ryan), a drug dealer responsible for the death of the daughter of one of Murtaugh's oldest friends. The General is also in charge of a deadly, militia-like gang of smugglers. Adding fuel to the fire is The General's chief henchman, played with all stops out by Gary Busey. Moviegoers familiar only with the relatively tongue-in-cheek Lethal Weapon sequels may be amazed to find out how dangerous and unpredictable Riggs is in the first Lethal Weapon -- and how likely it seems that Murtaugh might not survive until fade-out time.

The saxophone wasn’t just an instrument. It was part of the cast and crew.
Right
You gotta love a sax man
It was so cheesy…I LOVE IT!
It still recieves residuals from what I hear
Yessssssss mate! You wrote down what I was thinking without me being able to articulate it. Same with the jazzy guitar 🤣 🎸
This is acting at its finest, to go from the kind, helpful officer to batshit crazy in under a second. Only Mel can pull that off so well
Gene Wilder would go from calm to schizophrenic is seconds also... genius!
@@richarddean1453 it's not genius.. it's a troubled mind. I could do it with zero acting lessons.. the rage is just there to access on command, tears etc.. it's letting out something kept in..
@ragin Caucasian You're just way behind that's all. What I'm saying is common sense really. Drop the ego, look within yourself.. understand your emotions, that's all Mel / Wilder did.. not genius.. I appreciate it, but it's not genius. It's our nature.
@ragin Caucasian sources? You see this is your problem.. you look outside for answers rather than inside.. you trust others before yourself? And I already explained it you just didn't understand what I said, people like Mel have a lot of bottled up rage that they keep inside so when acting they can go to that place instantly & release it.. it's not rocket science you just have to have it yourself to understand.
@ragin Caucasian & clearly you care otherwise you wouldn't respond.
Best use of sax in a soundtrack, ever, in these movies.
Electric guitar & saxophone licks in the film, describe the new school & old school cops:
1. guitar rock riffs accentuate the presence of Martin Riggs (Gibson).
2. saxophone jazzy licks are a background for Sarg. Murtaugh (Glover).
David Sanborn and...
Eric Clapton.
That's all!
Boys n the hood use that also
Those movies definitely have an iconic score. Instantly recognizable.
@@zvonimirtosic6171 Preach!
R.IP. Dar Robinson. The Greatest Stuntman. He did all Stunts for Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 1. His Memories Lives on.
Mel made the jump on his own. His did some of his own stunts, but not many.
I thought it was mickey Rogers who did his stunts..
@@smokeybirdman Yeah Mic Rogers was Gibson's stunt double for this movie. Dar Robinson also did stunts in the movie though.
Sorry, but I think Hal Needham is the best.
@@TheSpeedfreak665 Thank you, glad someone else agrees..he was the best.

I realize I am kind of randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream new movies online?
Hahahaha
1:37 Mel Gibson is so crazy, that even the chain in the cuffs couldn't stand him.
haha. I've watched this movie many times and never noticed that.
Good catch, I never saw that.
ah well, special effects weren't up to it back then. good spot though
Too risky to jump with real ones.
@@julesf.meloborges811 you break each other wrist. Pull each other's arm out of the shoulder socket. Scarry / dangerous
The way he walks away afterwards laughing with his hair all fucked up always cracked me up😂
Same, lol! Especially when he goes "WOO! WOOHOO!"
Even better when contrasted with the other guy crying, "This guy is crazy, he's out of him mind, waaaaah!!!"
Let’s go again😂
Mel put so many energy into saying "do you really wanna jump"
That's the best part.
He is an amazing actor 💪🏼💪🏼

“Let’s go again!” 😂😂😂
Favorite part lets go again
This reminds me of a MASH episode with a soldier that was suicidal, after a few attempts Potter just tries to kill him. The guy freaks out and starts fighting for his life. I always remembered the line "The part of you that wants to live is stronger than the part of you that wants to die." Riggs just helped remind this guy of that.
Thanks. One of the best Colonel Potter performances. Always loved Mel Gibson's performances in these movies.
Probably my favorite scene from the first film. I love Mel's face when he says "Do you wanna?!?"
1:30 😆 me too.
It's all in the eyes.
Yes! Me too!!!
and I thought Mel was an upstanding by the book kind of guy . He gets my vote for the psychotic hall of fame 😅
"DO YOU REALLY WANNA JUMP?! DO YA WANNA? Well then that's fine with me. Come on. Let's do it, a**hole. I wanna do it. I wanna do it."
I think he said "asshole"
Connor Brennan DO YOU WANNA BUILD A SNOWMAN? DO YOU WANNA?
@Connor(open): I as almost seeing Joe Clark in LEAN ON ME as he was chewing out that Samms kid on the rooftop.
I really want too
1:29 😆
Gibson was brilliant in this!
" Cmon I gotta make it look at least like Im trying to save ya"
At least hes honest.
Love the way Riggs studies him at 0:59.
This jumper is a great actor. It’s very realistic.
1:29-1:31 yes, he is.
Well, Murtagh *_did_* say "Bring him down", he just did not say exactly how. ;D
Riggs could just shoot him!! LOL
@@B0X666 Yep. He'd already proven how good a shot he was with that Beretta M-92F. He could have stood there safe on the ground, and just shot the guy on the roof. BLAM! "Okay. He's down."
Murtagh specifically said "no guns, no jujitso just bring him down"
That is a good point.
The express elevator
"What the hell was that?!"
"Hey, I controlled the situation. You wanted the guy down, well he's down!"
Get it right at least lol.
1:30 Mel could had been The Joker.
Daniel Williamson true
Daniel Williamson Mel would’ve made a badass Wolverine.
That still can happen in the Batman
Nah I see him as Wolverine. To me, Wolverine is an amped up version of Martin Riggs.
You mean Wolverine.
“C’mon, give me a break will you guy? My boss is down there and he’s watching me see.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I need a GIF of Mel's "Do you wanna!?"
You could always screenshot the moment and use it to make memes.
"Do You Really Want To Jump?" ~ Gibson at his best
I love how the handcuffs just snaps off at 1:38 and then magically appear again at 2:09 xD
i just noticed that for the first time lol, looks like black plastic
I also noticed that both of them quickly grab their hands after the handcuffs snap
"Now you can jump if you want to. But you'd be taking me with you and that makes you a murderer."
That line makes me want to come off the edge by taking the stairs.
Forget it, I'm taking the elevator.....
Every one of the billion times I've seen this movie (started with 2x at the theater back in '87) I crack up when Riggs comes walking out of the airbag: "Wanna go again? Let's go again!! WHOOHOO!! WHOO!! HAHA!! WHOO!!"
such a cool scene for sure but its funny how they had all that time to clear the street shut down traffic and set up an airbag for the guy to jump What would the have done if the guy moved to the other side of the building to jump off the opposite side?
@@dodgeking9194 A fair point...but let's not kid ourselves. If every scene in every movie of the "Lethal Weapon" franchise was held to logical scrutiny and other cut or reworked...well, the movies wouldn't exist, or they just wouldn't be "Lethal Weapon" movies.
I love loud action movies with lots of gunfire and explosions and knife-fights and car chases and people dangling from the landing skids and stuff. As someone who can't help but notice inconsistencies and contradictions and plot holes and what-not, it can take some real effort to just turn that part of my brain off and enjoy it. But "Lethal Weapon" is worth the effort. :-D
@@gregrock7451True just saying Movies are meant for us to let go and imagine Not point out everything that is wrong
How was it man ? Back in 87’ watching lethal weapon in the theater ? Like how was the vibes back then ?
This scene always cracks me up laughing , when he handcuffs him to his wrist, and the guy has no choice but to jump with him, while he is still trying to figure out that policeman is crazy...lol.
Watch again, right when they jump. Watch the chain between the two cuffs, see if he still had to jump. 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I always laughed at how the editors missed the no handcuffs when they jumped before they held hands🤣
I just saw that. HAHAHA
But I reckon it would be very dangerous if they jumped with cuffs.
@@EckkoVoid 🤣🤣yep
@@EckkoVoid Then they should film it from an angle where you can´t see their hands. This is just pathetic and amateurish

FYI, this is back when it was on FILM, so reshoots cost much more; couldn't just erase and redo it like they could with digital....
Personally, not that big of a deal; I'm more pissed that his bullet isn't a real Hollow point.
Maybe the stuntmen required some assistance with the cuffs & grabbing each other on the way down for a flat landing?
I love how joyful Riggs is when they're getting off that inflated jump pad. Grinning ear to ear.
Lethal Weapon movies are the best ❤️ Mel and Danny worked really well together love them !!
1:31, Mel summoning his inner Jack Nicholson haha.
He’s ten of Jack Nickleson
Jackel Gibcholson
Love how you can see the cuffs come apart when they are falling from the roof lol.
Am I the only one who saw the cuffs break
No, i saw it too
haha they probably only had one take for that stunt, so no time for reshoots. They even grab each others hands in mid air.
I noticed.
Caleb Belyeu me too u can see they held hands when the cuffs broke
Young love... *sniff sniff* They grow up so fast!!!
Basically the conversation that every gen Z person needs. God the 80's were great!
You can actually hear Mel's accent getting changed back into an American one over the years.
Vishonov i think after 1990, 1991, or 1992 It deminished his Aussie accent, he is a american, but raised in Australia, Gibson was huge in Mad Max
Is mel Gibson doing okay now I remember his rant in 2010

This is why Hollywood needs Mel Gibson.

@@Tidushii - I say let it burn. Just need all those pedo's in hollywood to actually see some justice.
Mel Gibson made damn sure that he won't be needed anymore... Besides - he's 65 today. Not exactly within the leading man age span since some time ago...
@@cactusmalone How many leads have Anthony Hopkins, Morgan freeman, and Russel Crowe had in Blockbusters since they turned ~60?...

whatever mel lived through to deliver the "do you really wanna jump" line is what actors haven't lived through today.
The funny part is that the crazy expression is actually Mel Gibson's regular face. He has to act to look normal.
Mike Reed lol I agree
LoL. Hahahaha
@Mike Reed wow you like hate on everything don't ya? 😂😂
LooooooooooooooL
Do you really wanna jump
Do you wanna 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I watched this film when it first came out with a very good doctor friend of mine who was a research scientist for many genetic diseases and Cancer. She was taken at a very young age by Cancer. I often look at clips of this movie as It bring back such happy memories of her as she loved all the Lethal weapon films.
Wow… she researched diseases and Cancer and then passed away from it. Cancer said she was too dangerous to be left alive. In all seriousness I’m sorry for your loss and I’m sure she’s in a better place and I hope you’re doing better
The guys hair at the end is hilarious!
That co-actor was the perfect choice for that jumper role, he looked and played that character very well 😄
Michael Shaner.
"I wanna do it, I wanna do it" Brilliant.
That jumper's reaction was great! I like that actor.
I love that look in his eyes when he says:
"Do you really wanna jump! Do you wanna!"
One of the most amazing actors and still is. 👏
I thought the “Its always sunny in Philadelphia” parody of this was over the top, but now that I have seen the original I realize it was actually pretty spot on with absurd intensity hahah
You see the handcuffs separate on the jump, still fantastic movie, fantastic scene:)
Riggs: Do you really wanna jump? 🤪
I'm missing the part where Murtaugh destroys a revolving door and yells GET IN HERE!
It was a swinging door.... I was hoping for that part too.
1:38 notice how the cuff's chain breaks apart just before the leave the ledge
Good eyes..
"DO YOU WANNA SEE THAT SCENE AGAIN???, DO YOU WANNA, DO YOU WANNA?''" hahaha
Great Action Movie..💪👍 A 80'd Classic ❤🙏
I got a degree in mental health technology and psychology as a minor back in the 80s., and by every standard under which we were taking coursework Riggs was not Faking It his character actually was on the edge
This scene has me in stiches every time I see that the guy has no choice but to jump with Mel Gibson..lol, so funny.
01:38 the handcuffs 😂😂 just magic.
Michael Shaner is criminally overlooked! And should have had more praise for this Sequence, and performing it with such realistic energy, animated chaos, & frantic results! this was one of my top 27 favorite scenes in the whole series!
1:37 You can clearly see their handcuffs breaking.
Notice how they weren’t cuffed when they actually jumped but then magically were when they landed. Neat trick.
Trick photography....
LMAO, I never noticed the cuffs break the moment they jump off 🤣
"He's out of his mind! He's crazy!!! Haaaaallllp!!"
Says the guy standing at the top of a building threatening to kill himself.
1:30 Riggs was like "If I'm going down, then I'm taking you with me"
Do You Really Wanna Jump
Favorite scene. Also loved the way Mels facial expression goes from crazy to back normal and hungry n dont give f in scene w sarge where he holds gun to his head. you really are craaaazy lol..
Love them who threaten to jump off a roof and they end up not jumping off.
I love that "see this key bye bye."
Riggs is Me in this... 😂😂😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Come back, Mel! I'm over the anti-Semitism. We want more Bravehearts!!!
That's not what I'm saying. I'm hoping people will move on from the shock of Mel's faux pas and have him do movies as good as Braveheart once more.
hacksaw ridge got a standing ovation, he will do the passion of the christ 2, he got good reviews in blood father, and will do a film with sean penn. out of ideas huh?
Travis Friedel lol. but it's called the resurrection, it's pretty interesting actually and not often covered in all the christ films
Travis Friedel to you bec you don't see his genius. you probably thought apocalypto was shitty too or hacksaw ridge, i believe in gibson. he hasn't disappointed me yet as a director, i believe he is one of the greats. mediocrity can only see mediocrity I'm afraid
I hope to be at the premiere of Hacksaw Ridge, waving a banner to welcome him back!
Years later watching this I never realized that they separated their hands and the cuff came undone and they just kept that shot in there.
1:39 cordless handcuffs 😂
Did you see the man face and hair 😂😂😂
Let's go again that was great lol....
Love how you see the handcuff chain break at 1:30 - LMAO
A majority of Suicide jump survivors said the same thing. "I wish I didn't let go". The rest Jumped again.
anybody notice that the cuffs are broken when they jump
Fox Mccloud lol Didn't noticed till now

That guy did a perfect job playing the jumper.
This is my favorite part of this whole movie!
Always a memorable one 👊😂😂
1:29 Greatest acting I’ve ever seen from Mel himself
'' Don't taze me bro '' L.O.L.
Everytime my son wants to jump off a curb or ledge while holding my hand I think of this scene. "DO YOU REALLY WANNA JUMP!? DO YA WANNA?!"
Mel and Sylvester Stallone are the only ones who can pull off the “crazy badass hero”!
"Why are you doing this?"
"None of your god damn business!"
"Fair enough,"😂
Just another day of the job for Martin Riggs 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is so "Looney Tunes" 😂😂😂
RIGGS: "DO YOU REALLY WANNA JUMP? DO YOU WANNA?"
"He's trying to kill me" as he was just about to kill himself I don't see the problem.
1:38 lol the cuffs broke
Those are some really weak handcuffs. Broke almost immediately after jumping.
Wow. He was so hot. I just realized his hair was shorter in the second movie. Lol.
At 1:39 the fake handcuffs break apart. Then the suicide guy had to grab Gibson's hands to make it look like they were still connected.
This is the Dirty Harry scene remake for the 80's only Clint came down on a fire ladder. Same results but Mel's madness made him almost super human!
