Jonah has caught the Aussie sense of humor 100% - "Someone needs some floaties Huh!"
Jonah is not exaggerating, the full time professional lifeguards (employed by local council) are literally picking up tourists out of the rips from sun up to sun down, all summer long. And a couple of them realised a while ago, it would make great TV, so Bondi Rescue was born. There is no shortage of content!
And his recount of the journo's ribbing him about the story is 100%! typically Aussie humour! much rather talk about that mishap, than the movie he's there to promote.
Tourists come to Australia thinking it's the local wildlife, like the dropbears that will kill you. Little do they know it's that sneaky devil undertow who's the real killer.
That and the petrol prices.
@@umwhatamIdoinghere and the meth addicts ;)

He's been surfing for less than a year and calls himself a surfer now, total kook but I love the guy anyway. mid 90s was sick
His weight fluctuations?
"Transformations", alright but you left out the most fundamental :
From precocious, young, rich, well-connected, show-biz insider to even wealthier, totally embraced, elitist member of the "Hollywood" establishment.
I love that he called them “floaties” and not “water wings” at the end. My man pays attention to what little culture we have 😂
@@bK2pa thank you - fat fingers typo
Who calls them water wings?
@@mwnda I thought that’s what Americans called them
@@dzfz2100 Ohh I was confused, didn't know if you were referring to Australians or Americans because I'm American and I've never heard anyone call them water wings. I haven't been much places though lol so maybe in certain areas/states they call them water wings. Kinda like pop/soda ig lmfao
@@mwnda I've never heard of this term water wings but I did wonder if floaties was specifically Australian or if other countries use the term.... You didn't say what you call them. Does that mean you say floaties?
It's true that Jonah loves Aussies. My sister and her friends were walking in New York and she got a picture with him bc he stopped them and overheard their accents.
(From Melbourne) we weren't neccecarily stopped but every time we started chatting to people (when we were in the states) everyone loved to have a go, more so towards Florida and NY, but all over the US people seemed nicer to us then the actual residence lol
My sister got a picture with Toby Maguire when he was out for dinner in NYC and he looked so pissed in the picture. 🤣 Jonah seems super chill tho.
@@FaithHope21 lucky tobey is a known camera killer
Jonah has stellar story telling skills with phenomenal commentary.
Imagine if he was on an episode of bondi rescue 😂
Immediately what I thought
To anyone ever stuck in a rip you need to swim parallel to the beach and then go around it and come in.
because the stream is perpendicular to the beach? So you swim out of it to the side?
That's what they say but I realized (when I nearly drowned off Ipanema Beach Rio) that my only hope (with what stamina I had left) was to swim straight back to shore as hard as I could. I tried the parallel thing but it seemed like wasted energy.
If they're stuck in a rip, how are they reading this?
@@dmerls8571 it wasnt a rip if u swam against it
@@dmerls8571 best thing to do is conserve your energy... hard when you think youre going to die
So glad Jonah didn't die. That would have been tragic.
I could not imagine it.
Conan: So, what state are you in when you get off the plane?
Me: New South Wales.
Jonah: Black out drunk.
Me: Oh.
Totally me.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yep
You are not alone in that. I was like yeah! NSW.
Seems like he would be a cool dude to hang out with
Yeah Conan is pretty cool.
Nah. Surely not.
Insert quote from This is the End
Larger mammal gets more heat it produces.
@@michaelst9575 Why
I’m no Olympic swimmer, but I’m comfortable on Sydney beaches. But when I get caught in a rip, I still get a mini heart attack from the realisation you are being pulled out into dark waters. Tip is to swim parallel to the beach immediately. Sometimes you can just float, and start swimming at the end of the rip, and body surf back to the beach. But sometimes, the rip takes you towards rocks, where you can 100% die
It can take you under the water if you’re not a strong swimmer and pull you out into the ocean and that’s how you drown from em if you can’t tread water or panic and don’t float
you can 100% die
@@gingerale456 that’s a myth they don’t pull you under, just out. Now if you panic so much that you forget how to swim then sure I guess you’ll go under
No human can fight those rip tides in that beach. There's a reason he was saved by a jet ski and not a lifeguard on a paddle.
I remember seeing him get ribbed in Australia and thinking Jonah should have just owned it at that point and turned up to interviews wearing floaties.
Hahaha.....yes!!!!! That would have been amazing. Maybe even some swim goggles, and a nose plug to tie it all together. Too bad he didn't have someone like you around to plant that seed. Such a missed opportunity.
He does an Irish accent better than Conan! :O

I almost drowned in 2003 because of a riptide in Phuket/Thailand. I also swam and swam and didn’t get any closer to the beach. I also thought that I would die. And there were no lifeguards who could help me. I had to save myself. It was terrifying, but I made it eventually. My entire body was shaking after I got to the shore. Luckily I was in the best shape of my life, because I swam every day to train for my Divemaster test. And I didn’t panic. It was horrible 😒 One year later thousands of people died in the Christmas tsunami in Thailand. RIP.
Jonah has such a pure joyful spirit...what a guy.🤣✌

Diagonal
@@Mybabycase you can even just relax and wait for help, or start swimming when you are out of the rip. The main message is don't panic and exhaust yourself trying to swim against it. Diagonal might not actually be the best way for that reason.
Good thing he lived to make a joke of it, cause in real time that would be terrifying to see land get further and further away, all with the thought of sharks circling in your mind.

Lmfao 😂 bro Jonahs such an awesome dude I swear 😂😂😂
This happened to me in Phuket. I was ducking the incoming waves to move a little into the deeper water for a swim. The tides were so strong that I could barely make it like 20 to 30 mtrs from the beach. And then I ducked one wave and I come out and I am more than 100 metres away. At first, I was like, "oh cool, now I can just swim back to the beach". However, after 1 minute of really strong swimming, I was in the exact same spot, exhausted. I thought to myself, "this is how I die" as well. No jet skis at that time (they did start patrolling 15 mins after that). I was taking in a lot of the sea water and the bouncy tides were making it difficult to breathe. I decided to make a last ditch effort before giving up. I decided to swim a little diagonally, aiming for the bigger tides going towards the beach. Swam for 3 to 4 minutes straight and then when I couldn't anymore, I gave up. I let my body loose and immediately, my feet hit the bed. I got up in knee deep water, barely being able to walk. That experience still scares me when I think about it.
P.S. I didn't know about rip tides back then. When I got to my room, I read up on it and realized that you are supposed to swim horizontally to get out of the rip and then back to the beach. I was lucky I decided to go diagonal. It was the next best thing.
Wow, I also almost drowned in Phuket, read my story above. If I ever go back to Phuket I will 100 % NOT go for a swim 😑
@@asavannah7439 I just did. A horrible feeling. I would also have to think twice before jumping in the ocean again. #respectTheWater
@@sigmatory I actually live in the Caribbean and swim and snorkel a lot. But I stay close to the shore unless it's really calm and I'm with other people. And we hardly ever have ripe tides on our popular beaches luckily.

@@Welcome2TheInternet Just because he's always Jonah doesn't mean he isn't great. Christopher Walken is always Christopher Walken in his roles and he's a great actor. While Jonah is nowhere near Christopher as an actor, I'm drawing that comparison to explain how just because he always brings himself to his roles, you can still believe the character he's trying to portray.
