    Is 60,000 big enough?

  • @mickyb4796
    @mickyb4796 Před měsícem +5

    Think 70,000 would just be enough so yes think we need a brand new stadium with further development capacity!

      I do wonder about the future proofing of it and if the new plans would achieve that.

    Love Your view on things buddy, so glad I found your channel. I love the facts You provide that other channels don't, nice to have an intelligent point of view! I need as much info as possible, as I live in Northern Ireland, hardcore Toon fan since I was 10 years old, that's 29 years ago! lol. Keep up the great work!
    edit: I think they should have considered using part of the park behind the stadium. I would have loved a world class stadium bigger than anyone built somewhere else, but I couldn't have the stadium anywhere else! It is the heart of the city!

      Thanks so much, really appreciate that.
      Yes we have to stay on - or close to - the current site. The location is everything in my opinion

    It's not future proof. I'd say we would want a 70-75k plus. with scope to expand in the future.
    That way we have a stadium that will be suitable for at least the next 30 years.
    But I do think the grounds foot print will need to be moved into leasers park a bit.

    Still liked the idea of moving slightly into Leazes park and the club refreshing the park to allow it to be a better place than it currently is as it’s a sad place at the moment

    I agree we need at least 65,000 and more corporate boxes to get the money in. I think the east stand will have to be redeveloped as well. Having been in all areas of the new Arsenal stadium there are opportunities to spend money everywhere. I just don’t see that at SJP.

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před měsícem +2

      Agreed, the concourse areas are so basic and poor at SJP.

    Great Vid Ian. Corporate dollars are key. I expect there's going to be development around the stadium, hotels, bars etc to maximise match day revenue

      Thanks. Yes I think what they do outside and around the ground will be just as key to this making financial sense

    Yes, it's going to be so interesting to see the plans, and apparently they're planning an unbelievable refurb, i was up for the new stadium idea, but I'm more than happy to stay at SJP, It could be massively exciting.
    Add, Leazes terrace grade one listed of course is now owned by another Saudi group, and are mostly lettings apartments, and imo they won't block the PIF regarding building works, although the city council will demand consideration regarding light, but the best architects in the world will be on the case.
    For me it has to be 65,000 at least, but i think it will be wonderful.
    Could it be ready for Euro 2028, well, where's there's a will there's a way. . HWTL.

    I've said it loads of times- with the advancement in technology and construction methods, why can't we add another retractable tier to the east stand that can be lowered between games to allow the sunlight back through to the listed buildings? Even when it is erected, it came be made from some sort of see through 'glass' material to allow the light through as best as possible during games. I don't think the listed buildings are the main problem. The main problem is that stupid rule where sunlight needs to hit grade 1 listed buildings. Crazy.
    However, my preference was a new stadium. To all the people crying about wanting to stay at SJP- We've knocked down ALL stands at one point in the past and replaced them. Plus, how many times has the pitch been re-layed!?? There is literally nothing left of the original ground anyway so what difference does a new stadium make that will probably only be a matter of a few hundred yards away from SJP??

      Totally agree. For me it’s the location not the stadium that is important. I’d love a rebuild on the same site if it was possible

    60,000, Fine until we start winning cups on a regular basis. As far as increasing season tickets sitting areas . Does the latter make sense if they have further improvements in the future which would mean moving fans who already have season tickets . The move towards Leazes park could be done gradually whilst remaining within the present site with the least disturbance to supporters. Who knows 🤔

    • @iansmithfootball
      @iansmithfootball  Před měsícem

      Yeah, you make some fair points. I think 60k would potentially be a little too small in the long run. But I'm sure they'll have done their projections!

    SJP is not fit for the future.
    60,000 is not enough.
    Staying at SJP shows a small club mentality.
    Spurs showed the way forward, that’s a stadium!
