- Sam brings you news of a three pronged infrastructure development at Newcastle United. 1. Adidas building a temporary shop on Strawberry place as the club shop undergoes a major refurb.
2. Architects consulted on St James’ Park expansion as reported by Mark Douglas in The i.
3. The neighbours of the current training ground - The Northumbria FA are moving out - will Newcastle swoop in to buy the land to expand the existing site? - Sport
I love the Cathedral on the hill but we need at least 75,000 so its a new stadium for me, but where do we go whilst St James is rebuilt?
Extending the Gallowgate is just not enough!
Totally agree, even expanding the ground, as a hole will limit us to 60, 000...ish.. we need an 80, 000 safe standing/seater stadium 🏟. We have to move with the Xs....
New build. 75k.
80, 000.
Not overly concerned about the kit price, Sam. I expect the adult home shirts to be around £120, if they’re too much the supporters will certainly let the club & ADIDAS know straight away. Regarding the training ground, the idea of bringing the under 21s in would be a good move, keeping it all in one place so to speak. As for stadium expansion, other than expanding the Gallowgate into a cantilever version of the Leazes, there’s not a lot can be done in the short term. They could move the ground floor offices out of the Milburn to part of the new, expanded Gallowgate; which would enable them to expand the Milburn concourse from the pantry it currently is but that’s about it. 👍
£120 pound for a shirt is a rip off this works out at nearly 2 days work for a working person who's on the minimum wage of £12 a hour
we need a new stadium if st, james park can,t be made a lot bigger
I think they should be looking at a new staduim with at 75,000 capacity You've got to look forward
Personally I can't see the Saudi's excepting 2nd best, maybe not now but I can see a new state of the art stadium being built close to SJP. Money is no object to them. I understand SJP is our cultural home, our bit of paradise but for the long term future of the club a new build is the only way. We want to be the best in the world, a new Real Madrid & we can't do that with an inferior stadium.
Hope, not
@@AnthonyODOnnell-tt8gh I understand that as I would love to stay where we are at SJP but just imagine the outcry when supporters get told that the main stand & leazes end will be closed for 2 years to start the work, for example.. Thats roughly 25K fans not being able to go to home games.. I bet you a Pound to a Penny most would want a new build then.
kit price is gonna give people a nosebleed, but I think that there will be a building of hype and a design people will want to be in. However, I do think if it's a little too steep it could end up counterproductive with folk who might normally buy 2-3 only buying 1, or who buy a new shirt each season leaving off for 25/26
Stadium. The nice idea is to build something second to none on a new site but as well as being more expensive - there's a lot of divide on moving elsewhere. In theory, a move would be moving not for the people who have been going since the year dot but folk new to the club. While every game sells out now, this wasn't always the case. I found ticket stubs the other day for Anzhi, in the UEFA Cup, which was £15 - which I bought on the day, not sure where our 20,000 waiting list was that day. If there are expert architects in who can redevelop without closing the stadium that could be a win/win game changer
I think landwise it is worth getting more as there are long term aims to improve facilities for all the teams - if the women are going to make the Super League then we need to make sure they meet the criteria. As much as I love Kingston Park, it currently doesn't pass WSL criteria.
Won't be built at/near Arena. Ownership/planning issues. Too small. Even expansion won't be easy but could be in 2 stages. Gallowgate then East Stand if planning probs can be overcome. Might just get to 70000.
Can't see St. James expansion to 70k, much easier to build new on Leazes Park and play at St. James until ready.
Ashley must have been pocketing a ton of money from Castore coz we certainly didn't. Where was the fcb business nowse in that deal?
Building an entirely new stadium where the Arena is would be better, closer to the train station, right off the Redheugh Bridge, double the size of the land St James is on, directly overlooking the Tyne.
I think 70k is enough it would be a 30% increase but we aren’t going to get that at SJP so if the club and the fans are looking around that figure it’s a new stadium I’m afraid
It’s only expensive if your daft enough to pay £100+ for a piece of cloth that’s cost nothing to make in some far off sweat shop
The best thing for me is Cashley not being able to sell our stuff CLASS I love it
As much as I love adidas is back, I know that I will be priced out of affording the new shirts 😩
*F* FFP 🤣
Richest club on the planet, now lets see how much they can squeeze every last penny out of one of the poorest areas in western Europe. But Thats me over there thats me in the corner losing my religion and the few pennies left in my kegs.
Great expansion❤ 👍🖤🤍 the only way is up
