What would be interesting, is buying some Damascus off ebay, (the blanks for knifemaking), from a couple different sources, and testing them. I've looked, but I honestly find most of them questionable.
As for this, it's quite possible they just gas forged and soaked it too much, and ended up removing the majority of the carbon from the steel.

Hi. Greetings from Indonesia. I've been watching some of your videos and many lessons taken, especially about the heat treatment process.
One video that interests me is when you forge a rebar into a scary sharp knife. In Indonesia here, as far as I know, most of our blacksmiths use rebar for daily work knives, blades, stakes and others. The only difference is in the heat treatment process.
Now, about your video on forging that rebar, it's a very nice video and I wonder if you would make other videos of knife making with forging technic.

Pakistan has a lot of scrap yards were they will recycle/reuse literally anything that's scrap-able. My guess is the knife was made from literally scrap metal from a scrap yard. Melt a bunch of random car parts, industrial machinery, etc, down and make a "knife". That's probably how they got the Damascus part, from different scrapped pieces made of slightly different steel.

It would be interesting to check it's magnetic qualities vs. the claimed metallurgy. (If it's even magnetic) (it's probably wood)

I've heard the term "pot steel". All the crap thats left over after proper steel us made, gets thrown into a pot and then 'single use' steel is extruded. Any steel framing around machinery in a container from China is single use. It might as well be cast iron.

You could have done some spark testing to learn more about the content. Sparks are fun. Sparks are your friend. Sparks carry information about the content of metals. Quick, cheap, easy to come by information.

Or you could have test if it was steel with a magnet

Junk angle iron from a hardware store will stick to a magnet. So will 1095. There is a difference in how strong the attraction is...but this test is far more definitive

Not all steels are magnetic enough to notice

I didn't know if you'll even read this , but I have a question maybe you could tackle in a later video. Question is , how do you patina a stainless steel knifeblade?? I would like to see a video on this. I've seen plenty on carbon blades but not many on stainless.

Question? When your treating a blade in the oven how long do you let it soak for? Would you put the blade in as it ramps up or wait for it to get to temp then put it in then soak? I just got an oven can't find any videos that touches on that subject .

now i'm no blacksmith but every hardening heat treating i have ever seen done required the metal be heated to a glowing red hot and then quenched in oil, what you did appears to be "tempering" where by a super hardened/shatter-able blade is slightly softened and relaxed to make it less shatter-able without removing most of the hardening. see you need the sudden drop in temperature to cause the metal to crystallize

This is a very delicate knife, you need to wrap it in bubble wrap, and when you use it, leave it in the bubble wrap, it'll protect the blade and make a sharper cut
