I love how people in junk journal community sometimes refer to their journals as "her", because yeah, it feels like the journal is your friend who you trust with your thoughts and secrets, who you hang out and do art with. I just think it's beautiful.
Ditto
Barbara, thank you so much for taking part in our Collaboration event, #howtobotanical . I loved your video, and watching you make the texture paste was fab, you bring it home to us, that we can use anything to create something beautiful! :) Thank you again. Rachel xxx
Yes a big thank you from Bella too. Xxx
Thank you for joining us in this wonderful collaboration. What a fabulous start! Love the mixed media journal cover you made. Xoxo
The colours are so rich and grungy, and the texture...I try only to imagine how it feels. Gorgeous, thank you for the journey!
Barbara, you always entertain and teach with humor and common sense. You are humble and do not act arrogant or like you are perfect. You show us that even if you make a mistake, you can laugh it off and fix it or cover it up. I had to laugh when you mentioned making your own texture paste because if you buy a whole jar, it may dry out before you can use it all. That exact thing happened to me the other day. I had a nearly full jar dry as hard as a rock! So your tip will come in handy without having to buy a jar of ready made texture paste. Thanks! Bye bye from the USA. 💋💋💋
Love the colors used on the cover, The left over painted paper from gelli printing was wonderful!
I am amazed at your creativity! You took something so plain and made it art. So impressive!
This is wonderful. The Amazon packaging I get is puffy and not sturdy cardboard like you get. Such a great resource! I am so happy to know I am not the only one who will grab the wrong thing and not notice until I put it on and it's not quite what I had in mind. The best thing about grungy journals is that there is always a fix. If I'm trying to be too precious it's much more difficult!
This is the first video where I have absolutely no idea what to comment. The whole time I thought: those colors will NEVER work together.... And then..... BAMMM .... she is just throwing some boho birds and artsy fodder on top.... spritzing some water here, some ink there, some splatters and. Speechless.
Unbelievable! So pretty!
Aaaaaw I’m very honored by your comment, Luise! ❤️❤️❤️
@@49dragonflies ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Barbara, as always you have amazed us with your artistic talent, and using old scraps that somehow match, what is a new piece of ephemeral, how synchronistic...! thanks for sharing and being part of this collaboration. xxx
These brown packing envelopes are my fav things to use for covers! Even the padded brown ones. 😁
The texture here is gorgeous. Makes me want to get all touchy-feely with this journal. I hope you use lots of crackley pages in the signature!
Thank you, Barbara, for sharing. I really appreciate your tip to making our own texture paste. Your Botanical cover journal came out beautiful. Helen
You are truly an artist! Your mixed media work inspires me!! Thanks for sharing your ideas!!
Thank you for showing us how to make a journal from the Amazon packaging!
Your artistry is so beautiful. You make all the colors just pop.
Love your mixed media techniques! Thank you for sharing your creativity!
This video is delicious with the textures and colors thrown together. You may have a bit if magic in you. Thanks for the splatter tip.
☺️❤️
Thank you for sharing, you are an inspiration, I made a botanical cover, like you, from a Amazon package, I only used one part of te packaging and I glued on a napkin. Thank you for the idea. I love this collaboration ❤️
I love your videos! You are so honest about mistakes you make. You are a great teacher! Thank you!
This turned out so beautiful! This might seem weird, but I enjoy seeing times when something didn’t go quite as planned or you make a mistake (like with the purple paint). We get to see you make repairs or additions and move on. I know there’s been times I’ve thrown something away because I messed up. Instead of saying, how can I salvage this. Or use it to my advantage. I always learn so much from your boo-boos.
I have saved a whole bunch of these packagings so thank you for sharing your creative ideas how to turn it into something so pretty and useful! And thanks for not editing out your little mishaps, instead showing how to use them and letting them be part of the beautiful results! Have a blessed week 🤗🕊️
Barbara this turned out gorgeous! I love all the layers on the front. Love how you did the closure too. Just gorgeous! Love your nails too! TFS! ❤️
Wish we had this packaging in US. My smaller packages arrive in tyvek or squishy plastic. Blech. Love your ideas!
I just made a cover with a squishy ,padded amazon envelope. Turned out fabulous!
I think the lace is more beautiful with the coffee spray after you added purple. It looks golden ♥️
I really love watching you work. I don't have the foresight to plan everything out either. I work more intuitively, as I go along, which makes filming videos a little more tricky. haha Thank you so much for sharing. I love this cover and you have inspired me to be a bit more adventurous with my journal covers. ❤
this is a great idea to upcycle all those envelope pieces!
When you were debating about whether or not to keep the flap, I was yelling "keep it" and this time you heard me 😁 Love this cover, I have never gotten a package from Amazon in that kind of envelope here in the states, we get all the boring stuff. TFS
I glad I heard you this time! 😃❤️
I love how you’ve done this cover! It was fascinating watching all the different techniques you used! Tfs x
So, so utterly gorgeous! Funnily enough, I have just started making an album using the same Amazon cardboard envelope! Thank you for sharing your cleverness 🤩🏆👌♥️
Yep,...I have a box of those envelopes, plus padded paper ones, by my desk. Which sometimes "explodes" all over floor. Guess I should be embarrassed by that. But I'm not. Don't tell,...but I already took ONE box out to garage and put in big plastic bag!!! So nobody saw I was STILL saving more. I actually threw out 6 plastic ones. I'm so proud. I do use the plastic ones with bubble wrap inside to put my greeting cards in before I put in an envelope to mail. To protect my delecate embellishments.
** Barbara,...did i hear you state the very 1st Junk Journal RULE??? "NO WONKY COVERS"! Haha! **
This came out super pretty. It really is EXCELLENT!!! Very nice job. THANKS!!! Great video.
Austin,TX USA
Haha I did say that, didn’t I! 😂😂😂
Love, Love, Love ❤ this cover! The colors, the lace, your prints, and that you left the flaps! It resembles a large tag! 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hi Barbara, another lovely project! It's fun to watch you keep adding layers to the cover and its focal point. It seems like it will be too much, but then, surprise, it's not. Instead it's interesting and really attractive to the eye. Thanks for all your excellent videos!
Now I know how to use the Amazon envelope I saved 😄 Thanks for the tip for making textured paste and using coffee for distressing. Tyfs
Barbara, what a beautiful journal cover you created, I love it. I will watching this video again & again. Because I will most definitely be making one very soon. As well as checking out your digital kits in your Etsy shop. Such an inspiration you are. Thank you so much for your time and sharing your creativity, I just love your style and really appreciate you and your tutorials.
I absolutely love this. Love the green/purple colour combination.
The lace for the spine turned out wonderfully! When you laid it down the first time, 🤯!!
Im here to tell you I'm totally on board with the whole drying time thing. Our weather is heating up so that won't be an issue for several months (understatement, right?), but normally... UGH!! THAT is the exact reason I have such a situation around the house with my projects... patience is SSOOOO not my virtue, so while this is drying I'll work on this, then it's wet and the first one isn't REALLY dry so I'll work on this one... pretty soon I'm all over the house and the garage stinks of spray paint AND my coffee dyed papers are being blown down the street. ...anybody else?
As always baby girl, you inspire me greatly. I have quite a few envelopes I can use for this and I think it'll be perfect to make smaller journals, maybe one sig each, for the craft sale at church in November.
You're the best sweetie. XOX, MomK. ♥️😁🤗🏜
i love you and your art,i watched a video on tv with you showing your marta and tamara art i love them both id love to see you paint more,
Barbara: gorgeous! I would have been surprised if you hadn’t added gold. Haha
The colors are beautiful together. Carol from California
Another journal cover turns out amazing. I’m in love with your fodder paper/scraps🤣 Yum!
Beautiful work as always Barbara!! So happy you have taken part in this collaboration!! You are so talented and have so much creativity!! I love your channel!!!
Love, love this, especially using coffee 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Brilliant Barbara, thank you
Barbara! Love your unique style and gift for creating such fabulous designs. There’s so much I want to try. I appreciate your giggles and positive attitude throughout your projects. You laugh when you make mistakes! I love that. It’s all for fun and all about being creative. What’s most fascinating is that your mistakes turn out so beautiful. That inspires me to go for it! I also love how you completed the front cover first. I need to try that as well. This is stunning! Thanks for sharing!
Inspirational as usual Barbara.I have been diligently saving my packaging, the time has come to use them. Thank you for your wonderful ideas.
I love your journal cover! The layers just amazed me! I'm new and haven't done mixed media and rarely do layers as I don't feel I'm making it better so I stop. When you realized you used the other purple, I would have stopped and started over or just chucked it all. I hope I can learn from this to laugh and try something else! TFS!
Love this cover and collaboration. Going to look for something to make my cover, only get the bags from Amazon not envelope 😭, Thanks Barbara. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Super excited to see the rest of the series ❤️
Oh Barbara! I'm loving this!
As always ❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful and very interesting ❤️ Great to repurpose packaging as journal covers ! Your mixed media is a delight and definitely brought the book pages to life! thank you for sharing your creativity … amazing ❤️❤️❤️🫂🌷😍
I have a tip for you that I’ve been using for years 😊 whether it’s paint, mod podge or any mix media that I don’t use often I place some sort of plastic usually a sandwich baggie. I place it over the opening than I place the cap. It keeps my medium from drying out. Hope this helps ☺️
Thanks for the tip! I tried that with my last home made texture paste and it still dried out 🤔
Barbara, this is fabulous and I appreciate all your tips and helps on designing this masterpiece, nicely done!
This is so incredibly beautiful! I learned so much from you today. I am going to have to play more with my mixed media supplies. I buy them but I am a bit intimidated by them. Making your own texture paste is a brilliant idea!! Thank you so much for all of the inspiration.
Looking forward to watching this series. Good advice on the wider spine. Glad I’ve saved a few of these envelopes. TFS
This is so beautiful Barbara...I have just started trying some to these mixed media techniques, but I still have a lot of experimenting to do. I haven't tried dyeing any lace yet, so maybe that will be what I try next. As far as packaging, my current project is a vintage lace journal with all kinds of lace, coffee dyed papers, flowers, butterflies etc. and I made the cover out of a fed ex cardboard envelope with bubble wrap inside. It has turned out nicely so far and is very durable. Bubble wrap makes a great sound between the layers. Thanks for your ideas and for expanding on your mixed media. That helps get me motivated. Hugs, Carol Schneider
Thanks Carol! I like the bubble wrap idea! 😃
Your different elements (paper, lace, gelli prints) all become cohesive and beautiful. Can’t wait to see what goes in it!
Thanks for sharing I love your mixed media tips.
It's beautiful!! All that texture and those colors!
I really love the colors you used. And I am going to make some texture paint today. I need to use up some gesso and wanted it thicker. Thanks for the tip.
Love the colors ... beautiful!!!
This was so pretty. I love all the mixed media ideas
Oh Barbara, I appreciate you sharing your “oops” moments and that you can laugh it off and keep rolling! I love how this turned out! 💜
So beautiful! Thank you! I love the texture and your tags are gorgeous! I love how you used them!
Hey Barbara! Oh this turned out beautiful! I love the purple and gold! TFS Hugs!
Can’t wait to try this, great colors!!!!
Lovely💜
Hello Barbara, truly amazing and gorgeous. I love the colors and the grunginess, thanks for sharing.
I've started trying lightweight spackle with a stencil. I like working with it. I haven't tried to color it yet though.
Lovely!!
I love the color combination. I have found I prefer to make a separate spine. Seems to work better for me too.
Good idea! ❤️
I love the way this turned out! And thank you for leaving in your video the “mistakes” so we see that it all works out beautifully!
I love everything about this! From the minute I saw the colours come out to go with your tag I got very excited. Gorgeous colours and tones, combined with your mixed media, it is just delicious!! I adore the grungy additions, it fits in perfectly. Well done and really happy to hit the subscribe button, I can't wait to see more. Xxx
Another unique and amazing Mixed Media project, Barbara! It was a pleasure to watch your process. Thank you!
Oh my goodness sweetie, it is so gorgeous 💕💕💕 might be because purple is one of my favourite colours 💜 😉 very inspiring, love the idea of the 'simplicity' of using the packaging material.
This is my first time watching you and I am awed by your talent. Thanks for sharing your process with us. I love you don't fuss about the small errors and laugh at yourself and find a way to make the errors work. That's a lesson all of us need!
Another wonderful idea! Your inspiration share is always so welcome. Thank you for saying yes to this collaboration. Now to get some of these packages out of my husbands way. Perfect timing 💚
This is gorgeous Barbara (sorry not sure of the spelling). I’m new to junk journaling. I love your thought process. Thank you so much for sharing your craft!!❤️
This is a really creative way to use an Amazon envelope! 😊❤
Some new ideas, I never new about. Thank you.
This is a great beginning for a grungy journal. Looking forward to future videos.
You can use the back edge of the cutter blade as well, if you want a sharp score line without risking cutting through your material.
It's so beautiful Barbara. The purple and green colors, with the edges in walnut stain, are the perfect colors!
I LOVE LOVE this color combination. Beautiful job Barbara , can't wait to see how you finish and embellish the inside.
Cinnamon works with glue for a paste also, which gives you brown paste, of course. And smells good too! Maybe adding white paint would mute the brown, but leave the smell???
Okay Vicky, I'm trying this idea. Thanks!!
What a great lesson, I always enjoy your techniques! 🌞
Always love your videos & have really enjoyed all of the collaborations & I’m sure this collaboration will be amazing as well. Tfs
Gorgeous recycled junk journal cover. Love it.
Barbara EVERYTHING you make is a work of art! 💜💜
Fabulous cover Barbara. I love to use Amazon packaging for all sorts but I've never left the pocket open like that. Definitely one to try. TFS😊❤ Rose xxx
I love how you incorporate your art into your journals! It's beautiful! Thank you for starting off the #howtobotanical collaboration!🙂
Very inspiring.
Well Barbara, for all the little boo boos you think you made, the end result is just exceptional ! I love it! Tfs🤗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🐾🐈⬛🐾
Wonderful something to watch and inspire while I do battle with Covid ☹️ I love the way you dye the lace. I have a few Amazon envelopes so will be trying this once back in my studio. Hope flat hunting going well xxxx hugs from Linda in cyprus xxx
Thank you Linda! I hope you fully recover soon! ❤️
That is deliciously grungy....just gorgeous. 👍🥰❤️
Hi Barbara! Beautiful journal cover! Love the colors you chose to work with. I am very excited to be part of this fun collab as well. All of the colors and texture you used are fabulous!!!
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing your video! 😃
It"s simply beautiful ♥️ and I will definetely try to make my one textured paste now. By the way I have quite a pile of these amazon packages and already made a cover after your first video. Thank you so much for all the inspiration, Barbara💕 Knutsch💋
A beautiful cover. I'm loving the touches of purple!
So beautiful. Thank you for your creativity. 😊💛
Love this, 2 of my favourite colours!
