  • Professional artist Paul Hopkinson shares his brushes for watercolor texture painting. Some are brand new, others look ready for the bin, some have even come from a pound shop! All have their uses, and produce different effects, which ones do you use, or want to try using? Leave me a comment, I would love to know.

I love stippling! As mentioned over on your Instagram Paul, I have an old fan brush stiffened from the acrylic paint I used to use back in the 80s. I’m so happy I never threw it away. It works great for textures in watercolor. I’ve stippled whole evergreens with that little brush. Patience is the key, and building up as you mentioned. Thank you for a great tutorial on my favorite subject - textures. Blessings to you and everyone!

It's always great to repurpose our old brushes Rita, and you are a brilliant example of this. Thank you for following me on Instagram as well! Paul 🤗

My favorite 'stippling' tool is a very stiff stencil brush, nearly dry it does a great job. Thank you for this informative experiment.

Yes, a lovely type of brush for foliage and a variety of effects, especially stippled sand or gravel pathways. 😀

Thanks for the techniques using stippling. I love to use that technique when I paint butterflies.🦋❤

Glad it was helpful. There are so many techniques to play with when working with watercolour. It's all about having fun with it and see what happy accidents occur. 😀

@@TheDevonArtist That is the best part about watercolor. Moving the paint and also seeing where it goes and what happens. Always some surprises in each painting, at least for me. Love your videos and thank you for making them, your work is fabulous!

I actually don't do much stippling, I tend to work more wet and it would diffuse into nothing. You must be a very patient and methodical person.
