    To complain "where's my black representation in The Lord of the Rings?" is as ridiculous as it would be to complain "where's my white representation in Black Panter?". Absolutley no one had an issue with Black Panter being all black, or Mulan being all asian - because obviosly that's how it's suppose to be! (The cast being asian was the only thing the live action Mulan did right). But as soon as it's a story about people ispired by celtic and norse origin (therefore, white) - then it's racist! It makes me so tired.

    • @josephdillard9907
      @josephdillard9907 Před 2 lety +6

      Yeah but see, that's what it's all about to these people. To them, "diversity" doesn't actually mean diversity, to them "diversity" just means fewer white people, or if possible, no white people.
      If you recognize all of their lunacy as coming from a place of hatred specifically for white people, then all of their contradictions and lunacies make sense. Because that's where every piece of it comes from. That's why white people like me are the only race of people in the world who aren't "allowed" to have a culture, history, heritage or even a damn identity. The only race against whom it's perfectly acceptable to be as hateful and abusive toward and to discriminate against as much as anyone wants. The only race that can be "racist", the only race no one else can be "racist" against, no matter what they do to us. The only race that can be accused of "cultural appropriation", the only race that can't have our own cultures "appropriated" because we're told we don't even have a culture. The only race not "allowed" any sense of pride or self respect, any sense of pride in our great ancestors or their mighty achievements, no home or country or community of our own, and no ability to take any action at all for the well being of our own people or for the future of our own children. Because as soon as any of us try to do any of these things that are encouraged in all the other races of people in the world, we are labeled "white supremacists" and "far right extremists" and "fascist neonazis" etc.
      But as bad as all of that is, the absolute worst part of it is seeing so many other white people out there, especially white women who seem to be particularly prone to the brainwashing, who actually support and applaud and cheer on all that hatred and discrimination against themselves and their own people. For the first time in all of human history right now, there are people in the world who fully support the discrimination against, extermination of, and replacement of their own people. Anti white white people are the lowest, most pathetic and embarrassing thing in this world.

    • @HerculesBallsInc
      @HerculesBallsInc Před 2 lety +36

      That's it exactly! In the 'Lord of the Rings' books, elves are very much clearly not a part of the world as we know it, as typified by their frequent longings to return over the seas to their true home. We know that they are leaving - all of them - and that the world in which we remain will be a somewhat lesser place because of it. I don't think that tone can possibly be combined with a gritty, hardscrabble hero like they're trying to create in Galadriel. Elves are more creatures that dirt and evil CANNOT stick to.

      So, in the First Age there was Eol the "Dark Elf"... and no, he wasn't called that because he was black. He was called that because he was a little edge-lord. There was no branch of "Dark Elves" either, all Elder Scrolls style, literally just Eol in the First Age. And he was of the Sindar anyway.
      That may be from where they've misconstrued that idea. But also, considering we're meant to be in the Second Age, I don't know they're placing so much emphasis on the Elves; I feel like Numenor should be taking up more of the spotlight. But the rings were forged by an Elf, so I guess that's reason enough.

We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. In politics everything is define by enemies and allies. By being apolitical you stop opposing resistance to those who disagree with your politics, therefore leaving them lots of space to act and push to the new boundary. You need to stand your ground by acting, otherwise you implicitly agree. You cannot be neutral and your entertainement cannot either. Either there is two sexes or there is a spectrum of genders, either race doesn't matter or it does, either there is free speech or there is not. Hiding behide the I want neutral entertainement just breaks you power to influence the type of entertainement you want and lets those who are not entertained the same way you are change the nature of the content.
      It works the same way as a burglar going in you neighbor's home. You can say "this doesn't concern me, all I what is to eat and go to sleep in my house, plus my neighbor is a dick anyways" but in the end by not helping the neighbor you assist the burglar and furthermore you are making the neighborhood unsafe, which affects you because it diminishes the value of your own house and it makes you more susceptible to be the victim of a burglar as this one was not apprehended so he'll do it again but it also sends a signal to would be burglar that in this neighborhood it is ok, bring hesitant burglar into burglary in your neighborhood.
      In the same fashion, you wishing for neutral intertainement is you saying I don't want my values in what I watch, I want no specific value. With no opposing force the woke will then go in the enternaiment and act. Stop complaining, create radically opposed content and let the number talk. Thank you. Well done. When I was 15 (a very long time ago), I was hospitalized. My throat closed up. Blah, blah, blah. My brother brought me a boxed set of the Hobbit and LOTR. I can still recall the smell of the paper as I turned the first pages. The maps held me in a trance as I studied them and compared them against the story again and again. I was enchanted with Middle Earth and have been ever since. I commend Peter Jackson for staying so faithful to Tolkien's mythology in the LOTR. Other words come to mind however, when I think of his treatment of the Hobbit (I couldn't make it past the first movie). I'll take a hard pass on The Rings of Power, sit back in my easy chair, and crack open that old boxed set, one more time.

      Faitful? Thats not how I remember ... I was 25 at the time ... there was so much hate and protests, just few here: the idea that Glorfindel was being replaced with Arwen was an insult to the Tolkien Lore, Tom Bombadil cut out entirely as well as Old Forrest and Barrows down, Saruman in shire ending completely removed and rewritten... people thought it was a disaster at the time ... what most people seem to forget is how Tolkiens fun thought at the time Jackson butchered Elrond, Aragorn, Frodo , Denethor, nerfed Gandalf and particularly ruined Faramir who is one of the noblest characters in the book ... it is amazing how nowadays people think of these movies as faithful! I have a strong feeling most of the people first watched movies then when they read the book they had movie images in their head thus helping transition in seeing it as faithful... Even I who read books a decade before movies, can't see anymore Gandalf looking like anything else but as Ian Mckellen!

    I was livid within 15 minutes. I understand screen adaptations will be different than the books most of the time (thank you PJ for the LoTR trilogy... At this rate, it may be the only good one we get), but to add characters or change character dynamics to fit a message applicable to this day and age, and NOT the culture within the story itself?
    It's shit tier writing and I'm sick of it. To see them likely doing it to the first stories I fell in love with in the genre (this being Tolkien's) is maddening. He went to such lengths to create seemingly real cultures and identities for his characters... And to see these woke pricks apparently butchering it because they feel its not "inclusive" enough is more than enough to make my blood boil.

They could have made him so much more scarier if you couldn't just stand behind some beam slimmer than yourself to not be burnt - like at least show their clothes burning and their sides wounded.
      Likewise with the LOTR I think the dwarves are portrayed in to much of a comedian way. And I think it's ridiculous that Thorin could take Azogs maze to the face and be completely fine looking afterwards, though he did definitely look movement impaired. Too much plot armor, better do this scene in another way.
      Third movie had so many weird things to it, they ruined Tauriel, unbelieveable CGI fights etc.

    Tolkien even disliked the internal combustion engine and was somehow opposed to the industrialisation. I think it is safe to say, that a company like Amazon with its corporate greed, its calculated efficiency, its slavelike inhumane treating of employees and the destruction of little buisnesses is the apex of everything Tolkien hated. I am so glad that I never have bought something there. Never have watched anything on Amazon Prime and never ever will. I live in a south German multiculti students projekt, am also progressive, anarchist, antifascist and do
    check positive in most of the LGBTQ - letters but I was disgusted by this series from the moment I heared from it. Now that I have seen the Trailer, I am quite confident that it will become the dumpster fire that I expected it to be.

      They can still do it, we've no way of knowing if at the very least try tried to justify the race swap by fitting them into the geography of Tolkien. Disa for example looks nothing like the other dwarves even within the trailer who do look more like the classic Tolkienian dwarves, and her clothes reflect a southern environment, almost Egyptian like; so perhaps she's from Harad. Arondir is described in the article to be in a place near Harad; this could mean that they at least attempted to try and fit both of them as originated from the Harad region which would explain their appearances. However, why not clearly state it from the get go? at the very least, they should've made it clear in the teaser and article that these different looking characters come from the southern part of middle earth. The backlash could've been alleviated somewhat with the right marketing and a proper trailer. Now, the information is out there that they don't even have the rights to most of the source material depicting the second age which is needed to properly create an adaptation of that era, they only have a few pages from the appendices.
