I do not get tired watching Brian's performance his taste of music performance entertainment is indeed awesome! Indeed Blessed a Champion in every way! Thank You Brian.
I was there and saw this live. You have no idea as to Brian's strength, speed, power and presence. This performance still makes me cry for its sheer beauty and heart.
I adore the guy, my whole family does. I wish I could have been there to see that performance...any of hos performances would also be great. He's such a stellar human being...I am so proud he Is American.
I notice that nobody is copying the "Boitano Spin", thats because it's done with a hand held high above the head. It changes the center of balance in the body and you have to be an expert athlete to master it. Go Brian!!!!
I could watch him skate for hours. He's so perfect! Whats that thing he does so well....leans back on his skates and goes in a circle? Never saw anyone else do it so strongly!
@@theresabollman8061 - I was still a teenager the first time I saw him perform that piece, when it was featured on his "Canvas of Ice" special on TV. The speed with which he entered the spread eagle, and how many times he circled that young girl, still kind of takes my breath away...
@@ajchenmph Oh it must have been amazing. Glad you got to experience it. I am always pleasantly surprised at his grace on he ice. Most of the men in Figure Skating are small and thin, and I'm sure it must be easier for them. But Brian, bordering on 6 FT and a mass of muscles has his own inner grace that never seems to fail him. His Spread Eagles are the most perfect, fast and strong that I have ever seen. I love to watch him cook and talk about home decorating. Brian can do it all. He's such a real and kind person.
I was lucky enough to see him perform this one live twice; once at the World Pro and the other at a pro comp in San Jose the same year. 1996 I think. Beautiful!
Thank you for adding this beautiful video to CZcams. The artist singing is Franc D'Ambrosio who played "The Phantom" in Andrew Lloyd Webber's theatrical production of "The Phantom of the Opera" for 5 years. What a beautiful combination of Brian's artistry and Franc's voice. This is from Franc's second CD "Franc D'Ambrosio's Hollywood" Songs of the Silver Screen. A beautiful performance by Brian Boitano!
Today's male skaters are all about quad, quad quads.... no one skates with the power, grace and artistry of Brian Boitano. He will forever be my favorite skater. ♥
Believe it or not, I did tape this on my VCR when it was broadcast. Unfortunately, all my tapes were stored in the cellar and literally thousands had to be destroyed because of the mold. Thank God for You Tube.
Actually, it IS Shenandoah (the first part), and the second part if from Paint Your Wagon (They Call the Wind Maria." The singer is Franc D'Ambrosio, who played the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera for years and years in San Francisco (and was also in Godfather Part III). I think this was a performance from the 1998 World Pro -- he'd have been about 34 at the time.
The official spelling from the musical "Paint Your Wagon" uses the spelling "Maria", though it's not said it's written. According to Wikipedia, Mariah Carey was named after the song with an alternate spelling. So while she popularized "Mariah" after becoming a celebrity, the song is intentionally "Maria" and it came first.
I actually saw that movie for the first time last night. Hearing the song in the movie brought me to view this performance again! Who'da thunk Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin sang and acted in a musical!
@jehouse Actually, the proper spelling for the song is "Maria". "Mariah" was only popularized by Mariah Carey, who was named after the song and has an altered version of the spelling. Go figure, eh?

Amazing as always. The artist singing both songs is Boitano's longtime partner Frank D'Ambrosio. His singing is just as phenomenal as Brian's skating.
Brian, your perfection makes it impossible to stop watching you! Youre the best!
That spread eagle defies the laws of physics.

@@NevidljivoPismo Oh yes, that's it! Thank you for your reply!
Look up his "Music of the Night" performance...the spread eagle he does at the end is absolutely epic.
@@ajchenmph YES!!! I have watched it many times. Nice to know you appreciate it too.

I love this! All those beautiful, deep edges. Wonderful.

Beautiful and well done!

Thanks for letting us know where to find this version. i have looked forever for this song!!!! i love his version. and it's a great brian skate!
Brian's Triples are worth any quad. He's astonishing.
You bet Brian is in great shape...thats one big, beautiful sculpted body he has there...makes his skating so powerful!
One of my all time favorites too, along with Carousel Waltz. God I love You Tube. Thanks for posting.
I saw Brian's "friend" Frank as the Phantom in SF years ago. Great voice. This is a beautiful piece.
I did as well. Only time I saw Phantom. Never thought I would want to see it without Crawford…I was wrong!
@@seamonkeyjh same.
Wow! I will probably always come back to see this one as well as his many other classics. This man was quite the artist/athlete "back in the day".
Love it
It's strong phenominal and outstanding Brian. Great job

He jumped like a god - and had the sexiest mullet ever. Great memories of Brian.
His absolute best. Art performed to the art of the man he loves.

Were they even together at that point? I thought they didn’t get together until after 2000.
Beautiful
He was always my favorite skater and this was fantastic thanks
Awesome job BRI, well done well done. Hugs
THANK YOU for posting - I've been looking for this program!!
Perfection
jehouse,
Thanks for sending me this link. What a great performance by Boitano!
carolinemitsuko
I wish I can skate like him
just bought the song off itunes! yeah!!!!
WOW!
I remember watching this when it occurred. I've never forgotten it. Still makes me cry just a little bit. But it's "Mariah", not Maria. ;-)

Wonderful music, skating, and passion, perfect for you Brian. Did you choreograph the program Brian?
@sbe79 You're right! And the name of the musical is actually "Paint Your Wagon", not "Shenandoah". ;-)
I actually saw that movie for the first time last night. Hearing the song in the movie brought me to view this performance again! Who'da thunk Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin sang and acted in a musical!
When did he perform this piece? If it was in 2009, that's incredible. That would make him about 46 when he skated this!
@carolinemitsuko No, it was long ago...late 80's I think.
Back when figure skating was figure skating
Anyone know who the artist is on Shenandoah?
@jehouse Actually, the proper spelling for the song is "Maria". "Mariah" was only popularized by Mariah Carey, who was named after the song and has an altered version of the spelling. Go figure, eh?
Iv never seen a man eat so many chicken wings
