  • I take a look at a form of Japanese media that I'm really interested in, Tokusatsu, discuss my experience so far with it and whether I should make videos on it in the future.

Greetings from Northern Ireland. Your discovery of tokusatsu is eerily similar to my own. I agree that it is harder than it should be to watch series over here. I am of the mindset that if it's not being made available in my region, then piracy is fair game.
I would love to get my hands on some kamen rider blu rays. The previous sentai season (king ohger) was pretty dope, so I would love a physical of that too.

Glad to see others enjoying tokusatsu. I love the hero genre of Toku but i want to find more and see all the flavors of Toku. I hope you are able to continue to find more shows you can watch and enjoy.

Yeah, it's tricky but I'm definitely up for seeing more. Can't wait to try the hero tokusatsu series someday!

I am very glad to see you are getting into Toku, I first got into it through Power rangers, Back in 2011 I started to re watch the show though nostalgia, I dicoved the original sentai and through... Means we shant discuss managed to track down a few of the shows from the 80s and 90s, Though that I discovered Kamen Rider and Ultraman and many others such a Inazuman and Kikaida, Then moving onto Garo, Voiclogger the metal heroes seriesand others, A great series that sadly at the time of Writing has not got an official English release is ZUBAT, It's a Revenge show from the 70s set in the countryside of Japan set up like a western, Each episodes sees our hero travel from town to town looking for the one who gunned down his best friend, meeting a bandit or hired gun who has a pparticular skill, He then challenges them at this skill to prove he is better than them, He will then dawn the power suit his friend left for him and use the flying car his friend built to help fight the villains, Very dark for it's time but also very camp as old TOku is.

Yeah, I've been having a great time watching Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman and a few others. Problem is that it's very hard to get my hands on them over here. I have to import all of the Ultramans for one. Still, it's definitely something that I'd fully encourage people to support and try out.!

@@Immortallium 100% I have some sources that I won't share on this for obviously reason but it's a grey area because we aren't given a choice to pay for them. I am from Scotland so same boat as yourself man, I would love to chat more about Tokusatsu I am very passionate about it and you seem super keen.

Anno's directing more toku related movies is just him living his own dream, and adding more reason for me to watch his original work (Evangelion).

Definitely! I could really see how much he cares about tokusatsu in Insufficient Direction! Yeah, definitely check out his previous works. Evangelion is good but I really like Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water!

I really wana get Garo on blu-ray over here but no uk companies have licensed it and I'm not sure if the us sets are region free or not.

Man, I'd love to pick that up! I really hope some distributor over here begins licensing tokusatsu series. Yeah, all I can say is do a lot of research. Took me a while before I finally picked up the Ultraman shows and confirmed that they were region free.

The one thing I noticed is that there is just not enough budget in tokusatsu, it seems to be all dumped into anime. I'd much rather watch Korean cinema than Japanese.
