    Viva el ciudad de Zamboanga, mi amado ciudad!....Viva la cultura Hispanica!...Viva el creollo Chavacano de Zamboanga, un creollo de Español! ...... Although we don't speak pure Spanish but like a mixture of Spanish and other dialects or languages, or a broken Spanish as other people would say.....but we celebrate the rich Hispanic heritage we have in our history, culture, dances, music, food or cuisine, art and architecture, and our unique language. :)

    Just a curious question, are there any Spanish speaking people in Zamboanga, I ask because of the architecture and the song is in Spanish

    • @Heironelysea
      @Heironelysea Před 6 lety +18

      Manny Explores Vlog there are still few spanish speaking people but here in zamboanga city we speak the broken spanish dialect which is chavacano.

    • @artesiningart4961
      @artesiningart4961 Před 6 lety +16

      We actually speak here in different languages from Sama language, Tausug language, Yakan language, and Badjao language especially among the Muslim residents. While the Christian residents predominantly speak Chavacano (a Spanish-based creole language...a mixture of some Spanish words and loanwords with the local dialect and adaptation). Some also speaks Visaya or Bisaya which is the Mindanao variant of Cebuano language of Cebu. Some also speaks Tagalog or Filipino and some also do speak Hiligaynon language or Ilonggo language, but all of us somehow can speak Tagalog or Filipino and English too because of the influence of media and education. There were only few residents who can still speak fluent Spanish. The lingua francas are usually Chavacano and Tagalog or Filipino language, and English also is spoken but mostly in formal situations and in the government, media, and education purposes but not in the common streets and villages. Among Muslims, Tausug language is the most widely spoken, and among the Bisaya people, Cebuano is the most widely spoken. Some also are fluent in Malaysian or Indonesian languages.
      I am a native Zamboanguenio or resident of Zamboanga and I speak Chavacano fluently as well as Tagalog and English. So you can know what Chavacano would be like, I'll gonna translate your comment into Chavacano.
      "Un curioso cuestion/pregunta lang, tiene ba masquin cuanto maga gente ta conversa Español na Zamboanga, ya pregunta yo por causa el arquitectura y cay el cancion na Español." (common version and wi?dely used)
      "Solamente/Solo un curioso cuestion/ un curioso pregunta/un cuestion curioso/un pregunta curioso, tiene/tene ba masquin cuantos/alguna maga gente/maga persona ta conversa Español en Zamboanga?, yo ya pregunta porque el arquitectura y cay el cancion na Español." (semi-formal but rarely used)
      "Solamente/Solo un curioso cuestion/un cuestion curioso/una curiosa pregunta/una pregunta curiosa, tiene/tene ba cuantos/masquin cuantos/alguna gentes/personas ta conversar Español en Zamboanga?, yo ya preguntar porque la arquitectura y la cancion es en Español." (so formal but so rarely used)
      "Solamente/Solo un curioso cuestion/un cuestion curioso/una curiosa pregunta/una pregunta curiosa, tiene/tene ba masquin cuantos/cuantos/alguna gentes/personas ta conversa Español en Zamboanga?, yo ya pregunta porque la arquitectura y la cancion es en Español." (another so formal version and is also rarely used)
      "Solo un cuestion curioso/una pregunta curiosa, tiene/tene alguna persona/algunos gentes ta habla Español en Zamboanga?, yo pregunta por la arquitectura y la cancion es en Español." (another very formal version and is also rarely used)
      "Solo un cuestion curioso/una pregunta curiosa, tiene/tene alguna persona/algunos gentes de hablo Español en Zamboanga?, yo pregunta por la arquitectura y la cancon es en Español." (another very formal version and is also rarely used)
      "Solo una pregunta curiosa, ¿hay alguna persona de habla Hispana en Zamboanga ?, pregunto por la arquitectura y la canción es en Español." (this is in Spanish)
      We usually speak in the common version or the semi-formal version and we never speak pure Spanish. Sometimes we just mix pure Spanish words and phrases within our dialect or creole language. Because we can't understand straight and pure Spanish, and people are used to simplify the words, pronunciations, grammar, and sentence structures. We also use a lot of loanwords too from other languages of the Philippines. We also rarely use gender with nouns and with that we rarely use "la" and "ella"...we also rarely use now "ellos" "ellas" "los" "lo" and others. We also don't use anymore the grammatical rule that the adjective will follow the gender of the word/noun so "curioso pregunta or pregunta curioso" is still correct for us. We wont say it "curiosa pregunta or pregunta curiosa" anymore. We did like abolish most strict Spanish grammatical rules and conjugations. We just use simplified grammatical rules and sentence structures are almost but not always flexible that you can interchange the subject, object, predicate, and prepositional phrases and others and the sentence would still be understood.

      Why dont you guyz go straight to the point. The guy is asking if there are people in zambo who speak spanish. Just answer this way. "Yes, there are, infact 70% of zamboanga city's population speaks chavacano a modified spanish. Como yo, hablo ambos español e chavacano. Es mas facil aprender ingles si sabe hablar chavacano. You dont need to mention so many other languages po. Gracias.

    • @MannyExploresVlog
      @MannyExploresVlog Před 6 lety +9

      Interesting, thanks for asking my question guys, I did lots of research and you're right chavacano is a Spanish based Creole, so I understand about 70% of it

    • @artesiningart4961
      @artesiningart4961 Před 6 lety +7

      @loco aco
      I am from Zamboanga City, specifically Barangay or Barrio Divisoria, and I just want to make things clear for him (for Manny Explores Vlog) and give the general makeup, composition, or general information about the languages spoken in the city and the reasons like the ethnic composition living at present in the city. I am a Chavacano native speaker for 20 years, with my entire clan and from my great grandparents who were all Chavacano speakers, some of my great great grandparents from my dad's side accordingly were knowledgeable of Spanish.
      To add ideas and facts about present-day Chavacano, we don't speak and say in Chavacano "hablo ambos Español e Chavacano" but we will say "yo ta habla ambos Español y Chavacano" or "yo ta conversa Español y Chavacano" and as simple as that.....and we rarely use "es" for "is" and only most of the old people uses it or those who knew Spanish a little, we rarely use "r" like in "aprender" instead we use "aprende" and we don't use "hablar" but instead "habla", 'cause we omit the "r" of all the base infinitive verb.
      Chavacano is a Spanish-based creole, oftentimes and for us insultingly called broken Spanish, and yes it is modified Spanish, so, most of the grammatical, orthographic, spelling and conjugation rules of Spanish is not already used in and do not apply in present-day colloquial and daily use of Chavacano, also being it a creole language for more than 4 centuries and had been influenced and enriched by other indigenous and native regional languages of the Philippines and by new languages spoken in the city. :)
      I am sorry for not being always straight to the point, 'cause maybe I got used to writing essays, short stories, and long poems which needs introduction and other information before discussing the main point or idea or to enrich the main point or idea. I can't and always have a hard time to summarize my ideas into one or few sentences only. I always used to write long paragraphs and to meet essay qualifications such as a minimum of 500 words. So, I always don't get easily to the point in answering questions. Sorry for that.

People should know that just like travelling to other cities and countries, we just have to be vigilant. And if you want to visit certain islands, you can always ask the department of tourism if its safe to travel to those locations and you won't have any problems of being in danger.

    wow ,such a beautiful city, I hope and I believe that soon it will be more safe there and specially in Sulu Archipelago. More than year ago, we've been in Sabah, Malaysia and needed to get to Mindanao and I already decided to take boat from Sandakan to Zamboanga, I am sure it must be so beautiful cruise, but a lot of people were discouraging me, so in the end we took flight to Manila and then to Davao.
    The people there deserve safety and prosperity, the problems with Abu Sayyaf takes already so long. I am sure it will be good soon 😀

    u know what Kyle, every people when they heard the word Mindanao they only have one or two word to describe,
    "most unsafe place" in the Philippines. always in chaos...
    it always happens to me when people ask me where i came from. when i will tell them I came from SURIGAO in MINDANAO, they will say that "it's good that ur still alive", "db laging magulo dun. laging may gyera dun." then i will explain to them that not all. yes there are only few places but not all. not the entire Mindanao....
    sad but true...
    and u Kyle and the rest of ur team sharing this awesome happiness and full of joy about Mindanao it explains all the questions of others be it a Filipino or a foreigner.
    with all my heart...
    thank u so much...
    God bless ug amping kanunay...

    With all due respect to you and the people of Mindanao - with the beheading of two Canadians in 2016 by Abu Sayyaf militants, I would not for one minute travel to this area. I hold dearly as do you, Kyle, that the vast majority of Philippine people are warm, friendly and wonderful in countless ways. I truly would love to experience the landscape, culture, food (LOTS OF FOOD) and the people of this region, but in all honesty my wife would not allow me to travel there even if I wanted to.
    It's such a shame that small groups of radicals have tarnished this part of an amazing country, but I value my head where it currently is attached to my body and I will not step foot on any of Mindanao's many islands, regardless of the absolute certainty of the awesome everyday people who live and work and raise families there.
    I hope that someday this will change because if it does, I will be quick to travel to the region and have pictures taken in front of the Pink Mosque and every other cultural and geographical landmark there to discover.
    I do sincerely appreciate the awesome job you and your friends are doing to showcase this part of the Philippines - I have enjoyed every video that you have posted and I look forward to seeing many more. I will continue to hope that you all will be safe and will be able to continue your journeys as you share them with us.
    All the best from a fellow Canuck!

      Hey Craig...
      I understand where you are coming from, and I would never challenge someone who simply wants to take precaution. I would be lying if I said YOU WILL BE SAFE.... because just like anywhere in the world, some very bad things do happen (and sometimes when they do here, they can be very very horrible). There are A LOT of beautiful and "very secure" places in Mindanao anyone can explore and experience though... but saying that... I always promote being very vigilant and EDUCATED. I always look at it like this... if you are willing to ride on a motorbike or drive in a car anywhere in the Philippines... that is much more dangerous then simply being here in Mindanao. But I understand where you are coming from, and I appreciate your comments about this :)
      Have the best day man!
      If you ever need some information about any areas in Mindanao please do message my #BecomingFilipino Page on Facebook, and I promise I will help you out with any info :)
      Thanks for the inspiration bro and wishing you all the best in all you do!

      Craig Hartel Canada did the right thing in not negotiating with terrorists and the Philippines did the right thing by killing the perpetrator in Bohol recently. So I see things are slowly improving. It sends a clear message to the terrorists-- they will no longer financially gain by kidnapping and they won't get away with murder. I look forward to the day that it's safe to travel southern Mindanao

      Definitely agree with craig with this..., but sometimes, tourism is like a double edge sword too.., as of this case.., it can be preserve and can be enjoy by the locals more.., but i really hope and pray that mindanao can achieve its peace,. thank you kulas for promoting mindanao..., continue exploring kulas you'll find more amazing place here in mindanao..,

      You can't trust Muslims. Their religion is in and of itself "Radical." There's a reason why Mindanao was never really pacified.As Muslims they hate to be ruled by "dhimmis." Ever noticed almost any country in the world with a large Muslim minority region has trouble with Muslim insurgencies? Each and everyone of those seemingly "friendly" Muslims probably knows somebody or is even related to those Islamists.
