I always thought death metal should have ended with bane defeating barbatos because he was the bat he saw instead of bruce
Oooooo, that's smart!
"I will break the like button"-Bane probably.
And with Bane's training finally complete, he learned that Bird, was in fact, the word.🐥
Bane really is one of those lightning-in-a-bottle villains in media. The kind of villain who poses a legitimate threat to the hero both physically and mentally in a way very few others can, who is both charismatic and menacing in equal measure, who immediately establishes such a massive shift in the hero's status quo that it becomes one of the most iconic moments in that character's history - and something that all future writers for that villain have never quite been able to replicate. In my opinion, the best writers for Bane are the ones who don't go in thinking, "how do I make a Bane story that's better than Knightfall?" But rather the ones who think, "how do I write a Bane story that's fun on its own merits?"
Its true Bane never got that good in the comics again. I do think his arrival in Gotham during _No Man's Land_ is awesome, but that's really just one small scene in a giant storyline, so it hardly counts
I think my favorite Bane story after Knightfall is Legacy/Bane of the Demon
@@architeuthis3476 I liked him in Gail Simone’s original run on _Secret Six._ I thought he was done very well there, as Simone did a great job balancing his raw physical power and intelligence with his genuine sense of honor and respect for Batman.
I think for me the best and most accurate depiction of Bane outside the comics is from the Arkham Origins video game. They really managed to expertly portray Bane's intelligence and struggle with Venom as well as his Santa Priscan background in that game and J.B. Blanc's performance was really captivating.
I completely agree man. Arkham Origins Bane is a really accurate depiction.
Also, Origins keeps things in check by also showing/explaining why Bane looks and acts different in both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
Also young justice Bane!
Harley quinn bane is superior
@@canned3880 He is just a parody and is not meant to be taking seriously.
Agreed. Bane was my favorite part of origins. Shame he wasn’t like that in the other Arkham games
Bane in the comics: Criminal Mastermind who's intellectually equivalent to Batman
Bane in movies and television: Dumb muscle who's nothing more than a henchman
I wouldn't call him that in Dark Knight Rising
@@spensirmclife6549 He isn't a _DUMB_ henchman in _The Dark Knight Rising_ but he isn't the mastermind, he's just the underboss
Bane in Harley Quinn: Fucking hilarious
@@architeuthis3476with a silly voice.
@@tylerbertram7065 Yeah, for some reason Christopher Nolan likes to give the characters in his movies silly voices. Sometimes I think Christian Bale's voice in the 2nd movie is worse than Bane.
I really liked that Batman tells Bane to get in line when he threatens him, because that's exactly what Bane will do.
"I am this comment section's reckoning!" Bane shouts as he types with only his index fingers on his first gen iPad.
I heard this in the voice of Bane from the Harley Quinn cartoon, and if that was your intention, you 100% nailed it. Say what you will about that show, Bane is just an absolute treasure there.
That was exactly what I had in mind! @@halfmettlealchemist8076
Señor Crivelli isn't real. Señor Crivelli can't hurt you.
Señor Crivelli: 19:31 24:19 52:53
I love that the artist just decided to draw the three stooges as random mob henchmen lol
Brian Bolland did that in _Judge Dredd_ too. I'm sure there are other examples
Watching this makes me want a DC animated Knightfall movie.
...or miniseries
My assumption is that the prison dumping the prisoner's corpses in the ocean is a reference to The Count of Monte Cristo.
That delivery of Sal saying "I feel like you're not gonna kill him ever," had me dying like Ethan lol
38:40 I just wanna imagine the timeline where Christopher Nolan reluctantly agrees to use DOC TOXIN to cap off his grounded-in-reality Batman trilogy
"Certainly Our Lady Peace thought so" had me laughing in stitches. Great niche reference.
I relistened to the Knightfall episode in preparation for this and I thought "man I wish they wouldve done this one in more detail like they do now" I'm excited for the trilogy videos.
I like the idea of bane show's his hesitation to fight batman because he needs to study him first. first time a batman villain had done that.
I don’t like how Bane is just staring into my soul this whole episode 😂
If you folks are doing Knightfall again, I highly encourage you to get either the 25th anniversary paperbacks or hardcover Omnibuses. They have the full story with a lot of vital material that the usual editions lack
As crazy as that prison system sounds it sounds really familiar to the North Korean prison system where you inherit your great-grandfather sentence for Generations. children and babies are housed with grown adults in camps.
This channel showed up on my recommendations a few weeks ago, I've been binge watching since; it's been a lot of fun, and honestly you guys are helping me rediscover my love for comic books.
Looking forward to Knightfall!
Welcome!
Sal: *in the Bane Voice* I am comic book’s reckoning lol
I had read comics for a few years when this came out in Spanish. I liked it. It was different from everything else I had read until then and the simplicity of Bane's crew, these bunch of weirdos, made me remember then. Also their loyalty. They could disagree with Bane on something, but they would still do what he asked of them. Almost every other comic that I had read that showed villains cooperating ended in some sort of bickering or ego showdown. They were very competent as the support crew.
The short version of the secret origin of Bane: We need someone to break Batman's back.
I'm so hyped for Knightfall!! This was great! I love how serious and silly everything is around this era. I've never seen Bane interact with his dad. I used to see this cover as a kid and always thought he looked super cool
I took a shot every time the word bird was said, my liver is now dead.
58:03 I'm very excited to hear this will be doing the FULL _Knightfall_ series! I had actually just finished reading the full series almost a decade ago and searched on CZcams for videos reviewing it. Coincidentally, a young channel called @ComicPop (it might have even been called _Little House_ back then, I'm not sure) had just released a video on it. I had resisted subscribing to any channels at all but I liked ComicPop so much it became the first channel I subscribed to! I love that's its coming back full circle! Props!
I haven't been this excited in a long time! Bring in Knightfall!!
Just think we could of had Tom Hardy saying "But I, Doc Toxin was born in the darkness"
I love Doc Toxin, I mean Bane he's one of my favorite DC Villains and not just a big meat head plus a over the top but really interesting and kind of sad/badass origin story
When the guys were making all the "Knight" jokes, at the end, I fully expected one to say "Night Rider"
I look forward to y'all doing "Batman: The Passion of Bane".
GROOVY!! Bane has always been rather goofy to me, but at least he's not overused or a bit overrated like other villains. Especially the clown guy.
Have yoo ever seen the BTAS episode _Over the Edge?_ Bane is really cool in that
@@architeuthis3476 pretty much every episode was legit dope in all honesty!
@@Martin_TheCollector Definitely! If yoo think Bane is goofy though, check that episode out
Bane Vs Man Bat would be interesting.
I've thought about this, but in a future movie I would be fine with 2 different actors doing voice/body for Bane. Like imagine you got the guy who was the mountain on Game of Thrones, but he's voiced by Javier Bardem
I want to see bird fight Hawk and Dove, you know, his mortal enemies
Or try and seduce Hawkwoman/girl/Man, to consunate his forbidden love.
It's good to be in the Halloween season. Hope we get some darker and spooky books to fit the season. Maybe DCeased part 2?
46:39 my lungs were not ready for that.
one of my favorite comic pop thumbnails, so dynamic
Banes concept is so cool and would make for an amazing trilogy and shows were he is the main character
OH SHIT!!!! Knightfall is coming!!!
Hopefully _No Man's Land_ after that
Knightfall was 1 of first episodes of back issues so it would be really cool of them to cover it again
Take a shot every time they say “word” and “bird” 😂😂
prison system super-soldiers - would be cool to see him vs Captain America.
Oh shit, you're redoing Knightfall? That's dope. I wonder, are there any other books you'd ever consider re-revisiting? I always wished you did a deeper dive on Dark Knight Strikes Again, but I'd hate for you to subject yourselves to that.
PS: curse of the white knight would be a great follow-up to Knightfall just to contrast how Sean Murphy reinterpreted Azrael.
For some reason when Sal is describing Bane watching Batman all I can think about is Judas Traveler!
For some reason when jameskingman1227 is describing how Sal describing Bane watching Batman reminds them of Judas Traveler all I can think about is Scrier.
I’m just saying right now: I’ll take Dark Knight Rises Bane, over Batman and Robin Bane. Every Time.
Batman and Robin Bane is just Bigfoot on chemotherapy, and he’s stupid.
Today is my birthday and an episode of back issues is a gift like no other so thank you all for keeping me entertained for almost 10 years now (: 💖
Congratulations on 100 Batman Back Issue Episodes 🎉 thanks for the journey looking forward to many more
Appreciate you, dude!
Bane is so God Damn cool! Man you can have your jokes and Riddlers I'll take Bane Any day of the week
@38:50 I read that Bane was an homage to the pulp hero Doc Savage, down to his trio of sidekicks. Guess "Doc Toxin" was too on the nose. Another great episode as always.
26:00 Looks like Bane's a little tini-Houdini, I hope they've got some baby cuffs back at the station
26:00 He'll feast on the protein-rich rats of Santa Prisca for his buffness
Awesome story! Can’t wait to watch this episode all the way through! Also, it’s almost that time of the season for the spooky stories. Would love to see Tiffany cover and continue Wytches again! Or possibly some more Junji Ito? Would love to see her cover Uzumaki on the couch for this Halloween special this year! But regardless, love the content and episodes! I’m excited regardless with whatever you guys come out with this year! 👌🦤
Oh shit can't wait for the Knightfall redo
I love Bane in here for more Bane story’s on back issues
I am a simple man. Sal makes an Our Lady Peace joke, I updoot.
Please do prelude to knightfall, it is a tradepaperback in the modern collection (and wasnt part of the old collection as far as i know). It is perfect back issue material!!!
Because in my opinion you actually see the progress of batman getting more tired going from this badass batman in the end of vengeance bane to the guy being able to be defeated. But what i love about prelude is that is uses a Villain of the week approach but they are all new characters and hilariously bad, like two-shot who headshots you twice or metalhead which is the greatest enemy you will ever see.
So a perfect back issue episode in my opinion, it build perfectly to bane blowing up the prison, good batman stuff (i like his cape in this era), and amazing potention to make fun of the villians
Thanks for anybody reading :)
There is no better show on all of CZcams!
I learned from Cast Away that crabs aint good eatin' without fire.
Good story. Happy you guys did it on the couch
I recently injured my foot that put me out of my sports season for some time now and it’s been rough recovering. This backissues couldn’t have come at a better time and is the best treatment I could have
Thank you for another episode.
I look foward to these videos every week you guys are awesome
Canadian here: was not expecting the Our Lady Peace reference.
One of the best cold opens in a while
Your original Knightfall episode was actually the first Comic Pop video I ever watched. I stumbled on it while trying to find footage of the Azbats armor costume from Arkham Origins and I’ve been a fan ever since. Looking forward to your updated version.
The old Knightfall was my first ever episode of Back Issues was back in the Tv Little House era. I’m so excited for the upcoming redux!!!
This was so good! I'm so excited to see the other videos, I'm catching up on old episodes to I'm excited to see you go into more detail :)
Wait until you see the punk three stooges in Knightsend.
Is there an insane individual who could make a compilation of all the times they do the Black Canary “Raaaaaagggghhhh!!!”?
I have to admit I got really excited when they said that they were going to redo knightfall in its full run including knightquest and knights end so looking forward to it thank you so much for the great video, love the channel!!!
I recently read through all three Knightfall omnibus for the first time, and I am excited for you guys to cover it again
Finally a new comicpop lol. I was just about to go looking for a new upload
OMG we're getting "reboots" of back issues! Loved this episode btw, made work a lot more entertaining 👏
Excellent video😊
Yes, a new comicpop episode. The "BANE" of my social life!
Wow the retcon of bane being a weapon works so well when you know he literally saw a future version of himself that got him obsessed with Batman
I actually loved the recent new Sword Of Azrael arc by Dan Watters, even though I didn’t really like Azrael before (the first thing I thought he was fun in was the JL Odyssey). I think I just like that dudes creepy Gotham city stuff
I’m so hyped for this!
Ohhh, I'm excited for that last announcement!
You're redoing Knightfall?! YES!
Honestly on this experience of this story, I learned that Bane's origins do have some Parallels with Conan
yay more comicpop!
Sal, I really appreciate your plans to do Knightfall again. I read it some months ago, and I absolutely fell in love with it. As much as I love your video on it, your previous Knightfall video butchered the epic for sure. I'm not saying you have to like it to cover it, but you gotta do the work some justice by touching on all the aspects instead of skimming through like you did last time. No shade at all, you guys have improved so freaking much since then, and I'm eagerly anticipating you guys' improved and updated commentary. Great video as always, keep up the phenomenal work ❤
Edit: I would really love it if you went in depth on Knightquest: the Crusade especially. I know you don't like him, but I loved Jean-Paul screwing up at each and every step because of his isolation. It's the core of the entire saga IMO, and it shows all the reasons why Bruce was always the true Batman. The scene in Knightsend is so tragic because poor Jean-Paul finally realizes this and breaks down crying because he thinks he's nothing now without his identity as the "Batman". I think Ben hit the nail right on the head on your Sword of Azrael video: Jean-Paul is this loser nerd hippy college student, and now that he's given all this power and responsibility without any of the training or experience, it turns him into a power hungry monster. I think Jean-Paul is supposed to be an analogous to the readers at the time: he's a nerd student who reads Spawn and thinks cool superpowers are awesome, but he doesn't have the maturity to realize all the implications of that. He is the perfect protagonist to criticize the Image revolution.
I think they did a decent job trying to cover as much of the 3 volumes of material as they could in the half hour they had to discuss it, but the idea of doing 3 episodes (or more), each of which is an hour or more it definitely a step up.
Basically all of the stuff where Bruce Wayne is being trained by Lady Shiva so that he can build himself back up and take on Bane is really good - especially the duel between lanes on the freeway
What a great way to start my day.
What a wonderful announcement at the end!
All I can hear now when I see or imagine Bane is the Harley Quinn one.
19:13 bro has Donovan vibes
Hey ComicPop! Love the end credits & super pumped to revisit knightfall with you all! I was considering rereading actually so this is even better :D
Am I the only person that paused the video and went to listen to our lady peace and then came back?
Ohhhh nightfall sometime?? Niice!!
19:20 I didn’t make that inference when I read this but that’s horrifying
I had heard a rumor that Bane was supposed to be a homage to Doc Savage, which was a pulp character similar to Batman. Maybe thats where the terrible Doc Toxin came from? Glad they changed!
Great episode! I cannot wait for knightfall to get redone!!
😂 I'm mostly thinking about Tom Hardy Bane's Origin like this comic 😂
Cant wait for the next story of DOC TOXIN!!!
Considering that this is a prelude to the remake of of Backissues: Knightfall I’m pumped!!
Always great when a new villain comes to town. I sure do wonder how the town, characters and heroes of Harbor Patrol would react to this type of scenario… if only we’d get airbag installment…
Im sure I've said it before, but I love that yall are stil going strong after all this time.
