“Yillen-hula-hail.” Okay, as stupid as that is, I laughed.
Sounds like someone used a fantasy name generator to make a H.P Lovecraft Elder God.🤔
He he me too!
A video game adaptation that doesn't suck? ...Does Castlevania from Netflix counts?
Not as movie adaptation
BUTTS! >< ...What are the chances of him reviewing Silent Hill?
Warrior Nun does the Pokémon origins count as a good video game adaptation?
Andrew Carmichael in my opinion it relies too much on the viewers nostalgia for the video games. Just skimming over the surface details of the games, big plot points as the focus... yet missing what could have been stunningly animated battles between Red and the Gym Leaders.
Andrew Carmichael Origins sucked! When Butterfree was released we cried because he was Ash's 1st pokèmon and he saw them bond, in Origins we didn't see that connection, the Misty and Brook sucked and the ending didn't make any sence!!!
I can relate to the writers block. When you have the motivation to write but all of your creativity leaves you so you spend two and a half hours banging your head against a wall hoping to knock something loose. But all you have to show for it is a bruise in the middle of your forehead and a pounding headache.
This review was awesome though, as always. Your videos keep me going sometimes. Can't wait to see the next one!
Thanks! Glad to know the episodes are able to help you. :D
Not to mention a ceremonial banging of ones head against a wall, there is also: *listening to Rob Zombie while binge drinking soda, screaming at yourself, looking up ideas on pinterest, meditating, making a playlist, and a sacrifice to the Ancient Gods while dancing around a fire at night.* So, yea. 😖

As well as feeling as though all your characters are the exact same and you can never make anything original, and you have nothing to ever show for yourself in the future, soon rotting away as another faceless nobody in a sea of faceless nobody's, and having a mental breakdown followed by a identity crisis FOLLOWED BY MORE TIME WITH WRITERS BLOCK
@@localforestwitch7215 Is this writer's block, or a writer's identity crisis?
The names Dastan and Tamina were probably lifted from Shahnameh; think of it as the Iranian/Persian Song of Ice and Fire.
Rostam, perhaps the most well-known hero from the book, has the nickname Dastan. Tahmina (here Tamina) happens to be Rostam's wife. So I guess the creators did a little nod there, even though the "Rostam and Sohrab" storyline has more of a [SPOILER] Luke vs Darth Vader vibe than anything dagger-of-time related.
At least the movie isn't awful and as you pointed out, brings subtle nuggets from the other games. Still, pity we didn't get sequels. Warrior Within and The Two Thrones have more ups and downs to resemble a plot. :\
Thanks for the awesome review!
Cheers from Iran.
Interesting. I've never heard about Shahnameh, but if it's anything like A Song of Ice and Fire, I'll have to check it out! Thanks for telling me! :D
Cheers back from America!
Do check it out!
Yes, in fact parts of it feature dormant magical elements like in GRRM's books.
There's even an evil king in it called Zahhak, who is cursed with two serpents on his shoulders. Pretty much like Dahaka, even the name kind of sounds the same.
I'm sure you'll find more PoP-related stuff in it.
It's mainly poetry. Some versions come with narrative bits and illustrations.
There are very good English translations of it, I believe.
No problem! Thanks for making awesome videos. :)
I loved that little insertion of Kaiba from Yugioh abridged. Did anyone else notice that?
Screw the rules I have money
Yeah! I also loved in one of his past videos he did so with Dragon Ball Z Abridged
i liked this movie, to bad it didn't got a sequel
This movie flopped because us true prince of persia fans thought this movie was pure bullshit. Fuck no, it does not deserve another movie, and thamk god the movie lost money
@@GALAxy_Witch11 I liked the movie,it felt very faithful to the game,I would've liked to see how they did The Dahaka and I would've enjoyed it because you don't have constantly fail and reverse time.
I'm sorry Warrior Within was BRUTAL
@@GALAxy_Witch11 I wasn't even a "true" fan of the games. I mostly watched my older brother play the games when I was a little kid. But even *I* thought this film was subpar.
@@duncananderson2113 I liked it too
I think this movie feels more in tune with the games. Same cannot be said for the Assassin’s Creed movie unfortunately.
Holy shit the Assassin's Creed movie was bad. It was so boring.
The worst part is that the Assassin's Creed movie apparently isn't even just a subpar adaptation. It's meant to be part of the games' canon. Somehow.
What's worse is that Assassin's Creed was PG-13 while the games were rated M. Why did they do that?? Why would you ever do that??
i guess im randomly asking but does any of you know a trick to get back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot the password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Isaias Edgar Instablaster =)
As a writer, I 100% understand the kind of hell writers block is. 😖
Wait,
Dastan is trickster in Persia and Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Mysterio in Spider-Man Far From Home
Interesting
I absolutely love this movie. I watched someone play Prince of Persia Sands of Time and learned that the movie was horribly inaccurate, but I still love the movie. I'd also really love to play a prince of persia game for myself sometime.
"It's a Video game Adaptation! Name one that DOESN'T suck!"
Sonic the Hedgehog. 😉😊
Also Detective Pikachu.
Supposedly Netfilx's Castlevania as well, though I haven't seen that yet.
I also have a soft spot for the Ratchet and Clank movie, since it clearly wanted to be a faithful adaptation of the games and, in my mind, succeeded at that.
Is it really that good? I havent seen it yet.
@@mr_lrb6879 there was a ratchet and clank movie?
@Ryan Elliott Yep. Released in theaters in 2016...... the same weekend as Captain America: Civil War. Which, as you can imagine, didn’t give it much of a chance at the box office, especially with how little advertising it got. But, yeah, it’s an animated film adaptation of the first game, with Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark, and Dr. Nefarious all voiced by their regular actors, with a few celebrities like Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone in supporting roles. It’s a very good adaptation of the games, getting the style and humor of them just right. It’s a shame not many are aware of it, but I think you can find it on Netflix. I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of the games. If you’re not... then there probably won’t be much there for you.
@@mr_lrb6879 really? What part of the ratchet and clank movie is good? Is it the fact that all the "movie" scenes are cutscenes from the game, or the fact it retconned the entire trilogy?
Yellenhoolehay
I watched this movie with no knowledge of the source material, and I'll say this: the movie was... alright. It wasn't the worst or the best, but it was kind of memorable. I definitely enjoyed the time travel aspect; it made plenty of sense for me, and while the all-deaths-were-reversed at the end might have been a cop-out... I'm a sucker for happy endings, so who cares. I liked it. 3.5/5
i alway felt that the point of the story in sands of time, that it's "the worst timeline", the shitties version of reality where protagonist looses everything one by one, and can only fight to get it back. So the movie was being very loyal to the source, as Dastan lsot everyone he cared about, but through his own merit was able to take it back.
Both of these stories would be very grimm, too grimm with any other ending
One of the hassansin was a member of tamina's order hence he knew where the village was
I didn’t mind Dastan’s brothers dying. It felt like it held emotional weight for Dastan, which I appreciated. I also thought the other characters were a fun addition, and the story never bothered me. Keep in mind, though, this is coming from someone who hasn’t played the games. Seems like I’ll have to remedy that.
I love the games (even the 2008 one, just for its aesthetics and fairy-tale feeling) and I liked the movie, but what always gets me is this soundtrack #.# I listen to it at least once a week
I think as a movie the parkour would have gotten boring fast. And well you could watch a speedrun of the game, that should be just about movie length.

Prince of Persia games are masterpiece
Didnt like the Thrones one, remember hating the dry well part and it just ended up being underwhelming for me.
I use to play the sands of time trilogy, dont think i finished any of the games though.
I loved the movie Clue - both the board game AND the film stand the test of time. Tim Curry the Magnificent certainly helped ;)
I found Prince.

I don't think so.
Hahahaha nice Nostalgia Critic reference.
@@ryanelliott1907 Animaniacs
I have no idea if that's historically accurate, but presenting conquered goods from the won battle sounds pretty realistic to me. And yeah King was opposed to it, but he cannot publicly state "oh i do not control my own family which have acted whichout my orders. I'm terrible ruler". He would have to play game, and act as a conqueror trying to ease any tensions.
Sands are used three times and I felt it was enough. And it is keeping with the lore as you need sands of time to spill to use the dagger effectively and constantly. The three activations in the movie seem fair enough for me, especially that they are plot relevand and one of them is in combat.
Plot of the movie is not very far from games. Yes, they revolved around reversing spilling of the sands, but in their core it was about stopping the wezyr... the evil magician. and plot of the movie has motivation of going back and reversing one's action, only it's twisted to be villains motivation. Also i can't see movie working with only sand beasts around and isolated Prince. They would have to make it a horror/thriller sort of a silent contemplation based movie. That would recquire much of the action to go. Or it would be only action. Games have little to no plot and consist mostly of fighting, movie creating characters and story is a good thing.
I can't fully defend brothers death scene, but it shifted the flow of the story. Dastan could not win by convincing others, this would only make more casualities. He had to defeat the enemy himself. Problem is, he tried convincing anyway and it ended the same.
Dagger was defended by one *assassin* and cause it was a high tower, noone else could make that throw fromm it. So there is no way a thief would get down alive. And Nazim couldn't have whole army protecting one seemingly unimportant dagger whichout rising suspicion. King woudl wonder what is going on and recognise it.
Sand cristal is this version of Sand Hourglass and serves similar function of being source of sands of time. Stick dagger in, and you can reverse years, decades
Well yeah, marrying Dustan makes her children heirs to the throne. It's exactly the same as offering a princess only in reversed gender. "Sorry I attacked your city, let's give you access to royal family in return"

The critics weren't kind to it, but it's still a damn enjoyable movie. Definitely give it a go if you're at all curious.
I dare you to do The Cat in the Hat or Battlefield Earth for TBWB eventually for a special occasion.
What do you say?
Great review, I agree with your points for the most part, I just love the movie a bit more because of sentimental values.
Nevertheless, there is a nod you missed - whenever anybody uses the Dagger of Time, the sand form the wielder takes is basically a carbon copy of the ornaments on the Dark Prince. Matter of fact, it looks basically the same as The Two Thrones' box art, with a half Prince, half Dark Prince.
Also, the Hassassins learned about the secret village because some of their members were actually corrupted priests of Alamut, Tamina makes a reference to it after Tus is killed.
Are there any games you'd really want to see a good film or TV adaptation of? I'd, personally, love to see a mini series version of Dark Souls.

The light bulb clip was from Ouran High School Host Club
To be fair, the part of giving the prince as a husband to the princes as apology has sence considering the politics of the time. Among royal families, marriage was a political move and one of the reasons for it was to give another kingdom a hostage to ensure peace. You can't invade a country when your beloved son or daughter is in the enemy palace with a metaforical or literal dagger in their throat. My guess is that Dashtan serves that same purpose. They apologize for the invasion and give a prince in return as a demonstration of honesty and a promise that it will not happen again, since with the prince in there it can't happen again or their risk the prince's life.
Im glad that they acually used The hashashins an actual assassin clan
Hey again! Keep up the good work!
I enjoy this movie it was a fun swashbuckling adventure under the same line as pirates of the caribbean it's not as good as it but it was still fun
"It's a video game adaptation, name one that doesn't suck!" Ooh, easy. I can do three off the cuff. The second Hitman movie, the first Silent Hill movie, and the netflix Castlevania series. Though Castlevania did just kinda... gloss over the whole "avatar of the chaos realm" thing... so far.
Dastan would totally win. He has time travel.
Deemed too young growing up in the 90s to play any of the various Nintendo systems, my first game I ever got to play was Sands of Time. I love this game, the series and the characters. The movie is also one of my favorites, it's fun to watch. I only wish one scene from the game made it into the movie-the scene where Fara hangs onto the dagger blade, and letting go only when she sees the sand monsters creeping up on the prince. If that scene had made it in, the movie would have been perfect in my eyes.
Nah Iron Man 3 was solid, now Iron Man 2... that shit was wack
Couldn't agree more.
Iron Man 3 is an atrocity.
What would you give for the original version of Kindred Blades?
#GoRogue
As far as compiling ideas for my stories go, whenever I have writers’ block, I just listen to new music and watch new tv. I also cruise CZcams for documentaries, historical events that I’ve never heard of, research whatever pops into my head, etc. The idea is to search for inspiration and find the things that move you.
My first game I ever owned was sands of time. I remember getting stuck at the very beginning of the game when they introduced the wall jumping mechanic to get the dagger. I love this game and the trilogy. And the movie is one I like to play for a good laugh.
Iron man 3 was a good movie.

I don't know. The movie was okay, and in my eyes, actually pretty great.
Sure I felt kinda annoyed when I first saw the trailers, that hey departed so much from the game, but watching it, I actually enjoyed it quite a lot.
I felt like my young years playing prince of persia had been reborn. Ofcourse, when I saw the movie, I was barelly hitting teenage years, so yeah, can't say I had a huge good movies background.

Prince Vs Altair minus dagger of time? Altair all the way though I don't think it would be easy for him, and maybe the prince would get lucky. Prince vs Dagger with it, the prince wins easily in seconds. Those Assassins have no way to counter time stopping. Maybe with the Apple of Eden I dunno. Not really what the review was about it just made me think about that match up for a second.

I got waaaaayyyy too excited there, but I freaking love Clue. Really liked this review too. :)
Hey dude just wanted to say i have the same desk, weighs about 100kg or 220lbs
... Dude, what the sand tower does is give an infinite supply of sand to the dagger. In the movie, the dagger can rewind time indefinitively, the only limit being how much sand it contains. Using the crystal sand, that limit is removed, allowing someone to rewind time as far as they wish.
Great video,I'm also a big fan of the Prince of Persia series and I wish Ubisoft brought the franchise back.By the way will you make a video about the Assassin's Creed movie?
Oh, absolutely! Assassin's Creed deserves to get crushed!
Can't wait to see the video.
As someone who never played the game before watching the movie (which definitely needed to NOT have Europeans ruling in a location similar to northern Africa...unless the creators' goal was to emulate Grecians taking over Egypt or something - which is doubtful - even then it felt disrespectful and I was just a kid who didn't ponder too much on social issues), when you described how alone Dastan felt in the video games, it reminded me how much him convincing his brothers of his innocence and then their immediate deaths afterwards (plus Tamina's death at the end) caused me, the viewer, to feel alone with Dastan, little by little.
If anything, this film could have easily set up for a sequel (if they had planned a sequel) to include the sand monsters you mentioned, since the stabbing of the sandglass could have explained the rift that caused such monsters to exist. With Tamina against him (at first) the second movie could have played out similarly to the first, with all the action scenes being just as great or better, and perhaps give Dastan more of a story arc, as I feel like his only arc in The Sands of Time (TSoT) was to go from ignorance to awareness (not too shabby for an action film). The second film may have had difficulties bringing up the other powers of the dagger, however I am sure it would have been explained away as Dastan not having a fuller knowledge of those powers yet (though Tamina not telling him those powers the whole time prior would have been a sticking point that the creators would be better off not explaining and just ignoring).
~ Never-Played-the-Video-Game
Yes please make this a series

Hey Krimson, good luck with the writing. Anyway, let's see NPC has to offer us.
I never actually played any of the Prince of Persia games. Heard good things, but never had the chance.
20:25 what is that from? Someone please tell me!
The Princess' angry monologue came from my very own microphone. I spoke at a slower pace and then sped up the footage ever so slightly in order to achieve a more believable female voice. All improvised too. I had way too much fun with that bit.
Do The Game was Better: Battleship (I know it’s based on a board game, but I’m not sure if it counts).
I think the since of isolation Dustin(?) feels in the game was attempted in the movie by the fact that tail the end he is constantly hunted for a crime he didn't do. It's even to a point were everyone that learns the truth that could stop it is quickly killed off.
"The Sands of Time barely had any plot... The writing was OKAY..."
Whoa, whoa, WHOA.
So the treacherous vizier overthrowing the kingdom via apocalypse and time control using the Sands of Time and the Prince's struggle against fate and his own pride to undo what was done, while allying himself with a princess who he recently helped capture after conquering her father's kingdom is "barely any plot"?
I'll admit most of the conflict was internal, but there was plenty of plot, and the themes and arcs were interpolated beautifully.
The writing on that game was EXCELLENT.
(The sequels... Eh, THEY were okay.)
It was sparse, and mostly there for about 5 story beats between the platforming and fights per game, but the story itself was solid. You really didn't need anymore than that. And there was a bunch of environmental story telling that is a bit harder to spell out. It totally holds up.
Sequels just Ehh?
Warrior Within is a masterpiece and my fav game 'till this day.
First it can seem more edge and plot over deeper storytelling, but on closer inspection those are still there just in drastically different tone.' mirrored fates' with Kaileena, the Dahaka's role and all the symbolism that entails. Themes of whether fate can be changed, burden of responsibility.
The Two Thrones is where the studio pushing deadlines really put a strain on the quality and weakest of the 3 but still quite a remarkable game.
On the 2008 reboot people were just pissed for no more Sands of Time. But that story is perfect and complete as it is, leave it in respect. Pop 2008 is good in it's own right just needs to be treated separately.
Forgotten Sands is a soulless cash grab. Some creative new platforming elements but other than that pretty trash.
@@janosd4nuke Warrior within was a good game, and you're right, it did play with much the same themes of fate and responsibility as SoT, in some ways even deeper and better than SoT did; it just felt to me that it was so oversaturated with edgelordism that it didn't land as well as it did in SoT. It took a classic fairy tale and turned it into a low-grade metal album (though I hesitate to call Godsmack metal... More rockish)
That said, it's still a very solid game, I just think it would have landed better if they had toned down the grimdark aesthetics a bit, or if those aesthetics had been more strongly present in its predecessor so it didn't seem like it was trying so hard.
This is the best review of the movie I've seen so far. Some mispronunciations I noticed, but that's okay.
I've seen it and I'm happy while liking the film anyway at the same time. :D
You should have seen when I was filming. I must have mispronounced every name dozens of times each. Dastan and Tamina in particular gave me a lot of trouble. XP
Don't worry, at least it did work out in the end. It's still a good review, all the same! :D
Hay Krimson can you please do Jurassic Park. Because the movie has so many changes from the book. With plot and characters. But the themes and ideas are there. It has the same feel as the book. (This may be because the scrip was also written by Michael Crichton.) And for me the movie captured the feel beater than any other adaptation of anything I've seen.
Confession time I actually don't hate this movie I have to say I kind of like it. I don't think it's an amazing movie and not my favorite but I kind of like it

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy BBC Miniseries.
Honestly, I liked this movie. It's no masterpiece, but it's a far sight better than other video game movies. The story's decent, the acting is pretty solid (even if the casting is racist), the visuals and action scenes are solid, and it had a good twist ending. I enjoy it for what it is.
How is the casting racist?
This was my favourite movie based on my favourite video games. Love the games love this movie i liked that it went it's own direction made things really interesting and it has some great acrobatics and great story telling.
The prince of Persia games are biggest inspiration for my own fantasy series.
Thumbs up for the Dahaka
anyone remember getting tilted cuz failed a jump, and then reversed time :D
I gotta say while the movie was ok as an adaptation i do wish they tried a bit harder. Don't get me wrong it was fun and the actor does kinda look like the prince and yeah his armor did look like his Warrior Within version. But i was a tad annoyed they changed the dagger design. Even if i understand that in actual combat said dagger would probably be shit. But i also think you are right had they kept the hourglass could have killed off all the extras and just focus on Prince and Tamina fighting side by side. Though if they tried to adapt Warrior Within it would kinda ruin the whole them getting married at the end.
I forgot how great the soundtrack to Sands of Time was
OMG I love this show
I love the idea of the king as Setto Kaiba.
25:08 there might be nothing to see, but there is something to hear...
If the Rock a Polynesian man can be passed off as greek then why can't he be passed of a Persian. Also the small fact that Iranians today are pretty diverse skin colours wise. Iranians from the west are olive colour. The north has whiter skin tones and the central people are much darker skined so having a white guy isn't completely unrealistic for an ancient persian.
5:32 The twist was funny!
