Everyone here hating on the CVT 🤦🏻♂️ as long as you drive like a sane person and change the CVT fluid and filter it will be just fine… Co-worker had a 2014 Altima with 230k before he totaled it. I have a 2016 with 104k miles and it runs just fine zero problems to date. Don’t listen to the “lifetime fluid” BS!
No worries. Just change that CVT fluid every 15,000 miles, and you might get past the warranty period.
@@tomhoots no, like 60k mile intervals and don’t drive it like you stole it.
53,000?! Most Definitely not. You can get so many better things in this class, with more power and better awd, plus a regular Transmission.
Yep, GV70 2.5 with the Advanced package is ~$1500 less.
That list would include nearly every on of the competitors he listed.
A Lexus nx can get significantly more expensive than this yet it too suffers like the qx50
@@gregkramer5588 that was the exact car I was thinking about. A much better car all the way around.
@@linhunnicutt6556 And unlike the X3 and others is not stripped down!
It’s amazing that CVTs are still around. Who really wants them?
SUBARU “yes we love CVTs!”
@@allentoyokawa9068 you think a lot of people want/prefer them or do you think they just deal with it because of things like brand loyalty or they just accept a car that has it because they like the rest of the car
People that want the most fuel efficiency as possible?
@@LotsOfPaypa but with torque convert transmissions with 8+ gears and CVTs acting like they are shifting, there really is not much of a mpg difference.
@@dmegahan Thats not entirely true, my Altima doesn’t fake shift till about 3500 rpm. I drive around town well under 2000 rpm so I save fuel compared to a shifting transmission. Infinity/Nissan has the best fuel efficiency over the competition hands down. If you are looking for performance buy a car not an SUV maybe? The 8 speed in Toyota and Lexus is lazy and shifts take forever so it’s not better compared to this in my opinion. CVT are not for everyone but all automakers are forced to make compromises due to strict CAFE standards it’s a shame really…
trust me, if you like driving fast, the older model is for you. I have it and I love it. I was told they build the current V4s like a V6 but I still like the drive of the older model.
One issue you didn’t consider is that most of those competitive brands are selling significantly above MSRP. You can actually buy an Infiniti below MSRP. That changes the equation.
But no one would willingly buy an Infiniti regardless of price?? Right?!!
Flippant response not withstanding, I have several friends who love their Infinity drives, including two who each own a QX50. They can’t be all bad.
We’ve had 2 Infiniti Q50’s this one for 7 years and haven’t ever had a problem with either of them.
The car is gorgeous! And everything else is ok.
The interior materials look and feel very premium. I actually like the dual screen layout (although I wish the 1st screen looks and feels like the first one). Seats are comfy af, is quick enough for what I’d need.
I’d pick this car over everything else just based on styling.
I love the screen was not an afterthoughts. No iPad stuck on it. Love it. It's out of the way. and BUTTONS, BUTTONS, BUTTONS!!!!
Lost me at cvt, why the hell do I want a cvt in my luxury car?….
Not just any a jatco one
I stopped the video at that point. That's an economy car's transmission
I laughed when I heard him say it’s a “sports car” with a CVT. And it does 0 to 60 in the 9s. Lol
@@angelgjr1999 it does 0 to 60 in 6.3 seconds
What's cvt ?
Im actually contemplating. 42k on my 19’ Altima Vc-Turbo and it’s been nothing but fun 🤷🏻♂️
Exterior design is fresh. Interior is aged (maybe worth compromising). But that CVT would make me look at the competition.
That CVT would make me buy the competition. Use to be a diehard Nissan fan until they became hellbent with CVTs.
@@allentoyokawa9068 You’re calling me a fool when Nissan has a known quality issue with their CVT’s 😂😂😂, dickhead.
Well stated. A current exterior with 5 year old interior. They even have outdated USB A. ALL the electronics (more than any other part) need to be forward looking since they are what will obsolesce the vehicle sooner than anything else.
loook german cars new bye bye trash japanese cheap idiiots cars
Rear view camera sucks.
Happy New Year Nathan! 😎😎😎
I test drove one. That Godawful CVT ruins any pretense of fun or performance. If you want a turbo premium crossover without paying a premium for the Germans just get a CX5 or RDX
Acura makes excellent SUVs. I don’t trust the junky CVTs Nissan uses.
I have a 21 QX 50. Yes, the VC CVT is quirky. However, I have the feel for it now. And I love it. And my gas mileage is 24 combined. I drive in Sport all the time and floor it. Fun!
2 words…Nissan CVTs…no thanks
Great review, as always!
$53,000. Completely dated screens, no full screen digital gauge, and a CVT. Just awful.
Yea $53k is crazy!!
It’s not for the poors 😂
@Pinkertoning it's for the idiots 😂
Runflat tires are a perfect match for a CVT. Both are interesting tech ideas with a lot of potential benefit, but both create signifcant annoyance (especially aurally) with disappointing reliability and performance. I think the performance Nathan is proclaiming is from the VC engine, despite the CVT.
I was hoping when you activated d mode the car would go quite and we could Enjoy the Silence
My ‘23 QX50S AWD is identical to the one tested. Purchased with 755 miles on it for $43(and some change). Many naysayers chiming in with no actual seat time in one. I’m perfectly content with my decision.
TFL Offspring. Love it.
Wow. First Infiniti review I've seen by anyone in.... months? A year? Might not have even heard them mentioned as competitors to other vehicles in that time either.
Infiniti’s don’t hold their valve, wait two years and buy it for half price. They just don’t get the love they should.
Eh, I rather choose one of it's competition!
@3:01 Transmission sounds like clutch was slipping or someone slipping the clutch that doesn’t know how to drive stick shift.
I agree. Those fake shift points sound like a gear slipping or something. Or like you said some bad manual shifting lol. A better transmission and about 5K off the price and that would be a decent vehicle.
@@TheMeanmarine13 Audi Q-5 0-60 has clean shifts, why can’t Infiniti build a transmission like that. That change would make it a beast.
I don’t mind the cvt as it’s so interesting in day to day driving with its unique characteristics also not too worried about the reliability because i change the transmission fluid every 40k miles. Interior is alright and exterior is very nice and a surprisingly fun car to drive
I have 2020 QX50 and I hate how it drives.
My wife was looking at a Nissan Rogue and a Subaru with the CVT trans and I was like no, the power train in both vehicles sounded terrible and almost a rattly sound, so I said give me a traditional trany please lol.
"Personal Mode" Wouldn't it be nice if we could set it up to dump the CVT and use an actual geared transmission? 😉
Surprised Infinity is still making cars.
It’s this just a Nissan rogue?!? LOL. Chad
this car looks like a 30.000$ car
It's badly outdated.
Just curious why you used a period instead of a comma when writing 30,000?
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 because he’s a troll that isn’t even in North America. They use a period in European countries.
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 cause im from Europe haha
@@Jose_hernandez970 yeah that’s what I was trying to get at. You nailed it brother.
CVT? 🤢🤮. Don't even want to hear anymore about it after that. Bummer
🤣 Nathan is always hilarious
I thought i found my future car until I heard CVT
Never buy a Renault/Nissan CVT. You have been warned! They are ideal for Europe, where they drive under 11k kilometers per year, which equals only (6.8k miles) per year.
There’s no such thing as a Renault/Nissan cvt. It’s a Jatco cvt and no cvt transmission from any manufacturer has had a widespread problem for nearly a decade. The last major cvt issue was from Toyota in 2017 and they had a recall to fix them all
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Yes there is. Renault shares several automotive platforms and drivetrains with Citroen, Nissan, and Peugeot. Renault is the managing partner of their collective automotive group, and rebadging the same vehicle saves them money.
@@theylied1776 yes. I’m aware of that. But you said a Renault/Nissan CVT. There’s no such thing as a Renault/Nissan CVT. Nissan purchases CVT’s from Jatco. They are two completely different companies. Furthermore Jatco hasn’t had widespread cvt issues since 2014. You’re perpetuating nearly a decade old news at this point. Join the rest of us in 2023.
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Secondly, yes Nissan has had widespread CVT problems in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Nissan settled their last CVT class action lawsuit in November of 2019. Again, do basic research before coming off like a complete imbecile.
I like the previous model; definately better with the 3.7L
Agree wholeheartly, with the 7 speed auto.
Let’s go over the positives and the negatives. 1st the positives It’s sharp from the front. The negatives well everything else
If this thing is a luxury car what is the definition of luxury then? GV70 is ultra luxury then.
Once upon a time Infinity used to be a luxury division car manufacturer of Nissan, now infinity makes car for rental car fleets 😢😂 nobody in a right mind should spend 53K in this 💩 .
CVT sounds like it's dying during that 0-60. Computer trying to change compression during that run? Probably need an OBD reader plugged in to even check.
Hyundai Garbage. I’ll stick to my real transmissions for now.
I really like it. I think I like it better than the Lexus NX
I'd rather keep my GX460, which is only $3K more.
No brainer
@Tyler Pederson Yup! And it's way bigger in size, has real 4WD, and a bulletproof V8.
Did you comment hoping some troll would argue with you? There is no way anyone would give up one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet for any new vehicle, let alone a new Infiniti.
Those of you think this is so bad trust me it’s not the only one. The qx50 is just about as bad as the Cadillac xt4 and the Lexus nx
First!
Well...no surprise its an Infiniti video
Love everything about it but you lost me at CVT. Had one once and NEVER again. Heartbreaking
I’d rather have my 2020 Murano. Yes its a CVT as well but I feel it works better equipped to a V6 than a 4cyl turbo. It definitely sounds better! And my Murano was $32k vs $54K.
ahahahah MURANo thats for old people CVT are shit
CVT front wheel drive il look else where
I think it might be time for Nissan to take Infiniti behind the barn.
Maybe if you play depeche mode and press the button you will be riding with your best friend and pray to your personal Jesus for no flys on the windscreen Nathan ..(;
The atlas cross sport may not be as luxurious inside but at least it has an actual transmission and looks better in my opinion can’t get with a CVT cool review nonetheless 💯
@@allentoyokawa9068 yeah sure their cool for the first 50-70k go buy one, a sucker is born every minute 😁
tell me you are in debt without telling me you are in debt....
Sports car and CVT do not belong in the same sentence.
Its basically a nx350 knock off minus the decent hybrid and then decent powertrain ( cvt suck )
CVT should never be in a luxury brand point blank period
Vc+infinity=explosion
My 2016 qx50 does 0-60 in 5.3 secs tho
The infotainment system is so dated and the display and backup camera resolution is the worst. And that droning Jatco CVT transmission is definitely a deal breaker for me. At at $53,000 my money would be better spent on a Lexus or Acura.
This would have a better chance if they offered the red sport treatment.
3 letters: CVT.....needs a new transmission option
BARGAIN LEASES!!!! You can lease this for dirt cheap! Same as a CRV/RAV4, half of a Lexus/Audi/Acura/BMW. Payments much less than buying a base CRV/RAV4.
Great car, I like it but at this price I go straight to a Lexus dealer.
I feel this car sells well if it were $40K or Infiniti can fix it by announcing $10K incentive.
Let me guess, a Jatco CVT. This car heading to the junkyard in 3...2...1...
Depeche Mode😂
I had no idea this had a cvt - goes to show how pathetic things are! How much they need to improve!
I dig this new Rav 4. /sarcasm
The only reason you buy a Nissan/Infiniti is because you can't afford ANY competitor, and you don't comprehend the maintenance nightmare you're getting yourself into -- which will cost you untold thousands more than any competitor would, before you can bail out of your vehicular nightmare. DO YOUR RESEARCH -- especially search for JATCO CVT.
I wasn't interested at cvt. Nice looking in and out but the powertrain let this vehicle down .. buy Mazda cx50 no cvt better looks better dynamics faster and updated interior. 10k less. End game
Mine does 22 mpg average.
It’s not good.
Great looking car but what is up with that ridiculous transmission??? Dashboard is nice but seats should have a nice leather material over in dark grey or brown!!! Nissan usually makes quality machines...
come on Nathan how long have you been working with TFL and you still can't name all their CZcams channels. (Just way too many CZcams channels in my opinion)
CVT in a bigger vehicle like that? The droning! Nope... no thanks. Awful.
@@allentoyokawa9068 Hey Ilene ToyoGahwa, so are you!
It looks great... but as soon as you said "CVT," I was out.
Infiniti screwed the pooch when they left the 2017 QX50 3.7 liter (335 HP) rear wheel drive with 7 speed Automatic gearbox opting for this shitbox. They could have redesigned the car with rear wheel drive with the 300hp 3.0 twin turbo and optional all wheel drive in the Q60. I guess Infiniti wanted to save money with their Nissan made CVT Jetco transmission (big mistake). Even their new QX60 has gone back to the torque converter transmission and is their best selling car after years of having a CVT. I had the 2017 QX50 with a 0-60 of about 5.5 seconds. Infiniti, the writing is on the wall if you care to read it. I would hate to see this brand setting into the sunset. I guess Infiniti will be focusing on electric vehicles because the interest in ICE cars has faded. It was nice to know you when you cared. In your summary Nathan, you said it was quick. The very idea of a "Luxury Car" being quick at 8.7 seconds 0-60 is (for me) not at all quick. Doesn't the "high performance" Prius have a better 0-60 time? Just saying.
When I hear about engine 2.0 turbo sport i start 😂, because I have Infiniti q50 base 3.7 not turbo, not sport and my car faster than that car. But I have fx 50 spot, it’s really spot not like that shit 2.0
Good $35k car with a ⁷sp.
That interior is SO outdated. So many better options out there for the price.
I drive a 2021 Qx50 .. sexy looking but weak performance
9 second 0-60 kinda sucks buddy
A Nissan CVT at any price is overpriced. Hard Pass. Watched a little further, it's hideous on every level, the ugly goes all the way to the unibody. It does not compete with the other vehicles in its class, it just makes all the other vehicles look better. This is the equivalent of trying to mainstream a special ed kid.
No need for the last part, at all.. But the rest I agree with.
I did not knew I needed a CVT trash.... seriously....
Added in fake noise to make it sound that bad? Just leave it off!!!
Stopped watching at CVT.
Have fun with your CVT 😂
cvt screwed up this suv
What happen Infiniti? Cars used to be awesome now these cvt :(
Here come the “cVt ArE BaD” comments. I was not disappointed.
I think I’d get a Buick Envision Essence and save $10k
Nope, nope, nope…
@@allentoyokawa9068 you obviously did if you scrolled the comments and replied to one.
Garbage, WTF. I had such high hopes for Infiniti in 2023 and they just keep disappointing me.
An Acura RDX A Spec advanced is the same price! That vehicle is not a piece of s###
Double screen is garbage, reason why manufacturers got rid of it
The fake engine noise is so dumb on luxury cars. That thing is noisy
just a Datsun!
$43k I'd right price for that small car with garbage transmission
Our last 3 vehicles have been Infiniti, but no more. Their ignorance of electrification have killed them for us. To pay this price and for it not to be fully electric is unforgivable. Their resale value will totally tank in just 3 or 4 years. Why on earth would anyone spend this kind of money on a none fully electric?
Mercedes, Audi, BMW, and now even Cadillac have better all electric models. Not to mention the Genesis GV60 which embarrasses this model. And now Tesla is improving the next Generation Model Y with a new interior, suspension and quiet ride. And they have the biggest advantage of all -- NO DEALERS.
Prius is faster
