Uncut interview with HANSI KÜRSCH (BLIND GUARDIAN)
Interview conducted on November 15, 2022.
At 57 years old - 39 of which have been dedicated to Blind Guardian -, Hansi Kürsch is one of the most respected figures in the niche that his band helped establish, power metal. The way he inserted fantasy literature - especially the universe of “The Lord of the Rings”, by South African J.R.R. Tolkien - and Celtic and medieval cultures into his lyrics showed that it was possible, indeed, to make a technical and heavy sound of high cult and entropic content. As a result of this, Blind has become a true institution and every job it announces generates huge expectations. It was no different when releasing “The God Machine”, their most recent studio album. But right from the first previews, fans could notice nods to a remote, often forgotten past, in which the rawness of the instrumental prevailed. The most nostalgic people cheered; those who had already become accustomed to the pompous orchestral reveries probably missed it. But everyone, without exception, recognized the legitimacy of the proposal, which Kürsch explains in detail in this interview.
