  • This video documents my experience at the 2023 Oldsmobile Club of America National meet held at Kil-Kare Dragway, and at the Marriott hotel in downtown Dayton, Ohio August 9th through the 12th. There were a lot of gorgeous cars there, and even with an extraordinarily long one plus hour video, there were many cars I missed or wasn't able to document.
    6:29 - A beautifully restored 1969 F-85
    13:43 - How to Identify a 1965 through 1972 Cutlass/442
    26:57 - A 1963 & 1962 Jetfire with the turbocharged Olds aluminum V8
    38:25 - A 1904 Curved Dash Oldsmobile starting & driving!

    My dad bought a 1965 Olds 442 brand new. He actually put an order in for a '65 Chevelle (SS 396) at the local Chevy dealer and the car got sold out from underneath him, so he ended up buying the 442. He said he raced the guy that bought the Chevelle and blew his doors off!! He bought the stripped down version with bench seat and no radio - he said he wanted to shed weight because he knew he planned to race it. He told me about using slicks too. I recall seeing pictures of his car - it was blue like the one you showed. Very cool show, Bob!

    Hey Robert, really great job. I bought a 71 Supreme convertible and have been looking for info on the various years and this was the best I've seen showing almost all the models. Watched the whole hour! Wish they had the 76, 77 442 models, those were gorgeous too.

    The 66 Toros were the first FWD American-made cars since 1937. And, the engine was mounted north-south. This was enabled on a FWD car by positioning the transmission to the driver's side of the block, and then attaching the transmission to the engine by a large chain, versus a gear system. The chain proved remarkably well-made! The transmission then fed to a front differential, spinning those giant axles. The early Toros were 425 equipped and with drum brakes. Front disc brakes became optional in 67 and standard by 70. The 425 gave way to the 455 as standard by 68, I believe.

    I have a collection of late 50's Oldsmobiles and also a 1964 Starfire convertible. And in 1981 I bought an oddball 442 that was ordered new by a bank president and is the only 1967 Oldsmobile 442 I have ever seen that was a 2 door sedan not a hardtop with a split-bench seat and column shifter and a 12 bolt posi-rear end. P.S. I was at this show with my 1957 Fiesta wagon the black and white one next to my brother's gold 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible.

    Bought it for the deck lid and sold it to my brother for a winter beater.

    The Red W30 fender wells were also fiberglass instead of metal to help lighten up the front end.

      @raymondsmith7993 Před 9 měsíci

      Yes that's right I was thinking about the 67 and 68 Models. All through the 70's and 80's all the car makers were switching to plastic for almost every thing to lower cost and reduce weight.@@davedibona5028

    What is the W code for the vertical stripe on the fender of ‘68 4-4-2’s? Thought it was W-32 but,then,was told W-32 is the air induction system that was usually found on W-30’s and W-31’s but,not necessarily STRICTLY on W models. So,figured the vert stripe was W-34,maybe. Or,is that reserved for the Cutlass SX?

    • @CobblerBob
      @CobblerBob  Před 9 měsíci

      I'm not sure, but I have a copy of the 1968 Olds Optional Equipment and it lists W36 as "Rallye Paint Stripe"

    • @myleslong5584
      @myleslong5584 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@CobblerBob Well,optional,it was. If the Oldsmobile division states W-36 as the official designation for the stripe package,the conclusion is obvious. Thank you,by the way. God,those ‘68-‘72 A-bodies were beautiful works of art,built with quality!

      @CobblerBob  Před 9 měsíci

      There were 4 doors present, but as I stated in the beginning, this was not an exhaustive coverage, I just highlighted some of the cars that piqued my interest, and I generally am not a 4 door fan, sorry. I've done that in the past where I tried to photograph or video everything, and was not "present" and I wind up feeling like I missed the event. I didn't want to do that.
