You need to know that for anyone growing up in the and 60's, 70's and 80's around the world this song and the guitar solo is considered one of, if not the greatest rock songs of all time. Calling it iconic is an understatement for us baby boomers. Truly defines 70's classic rock.
I grew up in the 70s 80s Led Zeppelin is a great band
No one really knows what the song is about lol
I was a teen in the 70s!! Best time of my life!
This and Free Bird.
@@ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD A lot of songs at the time were written in the style of Bob Dylan with the next line being whatever they think sounds good next. Try to figure out Desolation Row, for example.

Haha. So true and this was never on tv that I remember! No music videos back then.
@@amelias.2509 At the theaters that played midnight movies, this was played almost every other weekend. It would alternate with Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Lololl! Kids! First, they weren’t on “national tv”. 2. He’s still singing and kickin, and probably WATCHING you react. 3. He would simply grin at you and say “the girls LOVED it!”

She’s feeling awkward looking at Robert Plant 🌱 and getting “those vibes” for another man sitting next to her husband. Ha ha.
Jimmy Page starts the song on the 6 string, switches to the 12 string though the middle, then back to the 6 string for the solo, then finishes the song on the 12 string. All in one song on one guitar. Pure Brilliance from one of the Masters at his craft.
No, he only does the solo 6 string.
No Nick. He starts with 6 strings until the first pause. Them he plays 12 until solo with 6 again and finally switch to 12 at the last Riff.

The ladies childish reaction nearly ruined the video. The gentleman is a cool dude 💛
Truth be told, they were and still are the biggest musicians in history, bigger than the Beatles, MJ, Beyonce, Taylor Swift Bird etc. No one can and will be able to touch them today or ever. Also PLS stop the shallow bullocks about his pants. If you were growing up in the 70s, you will know that today's generation is rubbish compared to the 70s. Btw Jimmy Page was voted best guitarist in the history of music by many of the best music legends and authorities.
@@josephmanzuni8593 I was born in 1957 so I agree with you. Saw these God's in Earl's Court I think 75 or 76 . I didn't realise quite what I saw until CZcams. 🤓🤓
@@jeremymerrifield219 I'm from Africa and did not have the chance to watch them live but watched all their performances in Germany, Sweden, UK and the US either on TV or CZcams. Many have the impression they are metal rock, but they predate metal. They were the ones who created rock music as we know today, incorporating blues and rock together. All the legends in blues music respect the hell out of them, more than any black musicians of today or the past. Cheers.
@@josephmanzuni8593 totally agree. And don't forget the wonderful acoustic songs they wrote and performed
The greatest song ever...every member of Zeppelin was the greatest on their instrument...John Paul Jones can do it all...losing Bonham was devastating to generations
Agree to disagree, I truly believe this is a brilliant song and one of the greatest ever by Led Zepplin; but, their live version of Kashmir is stunning, genius, and displays ALL of their talents at 100 %.
In Kashmir, Page is just having a blast and destroying this song. Plant, there's nothing more to say; his vocals made a famous, world renowned Soprano opera singer literally fall in love with him on CZcams! John Paul Jones, as always totally brilliant and completely under-rated and under-estimated, truly a musical genius in his own right. John Bohnam is highlighted as the amazing percussionist that he was in this performance!!!
My 9th grade English teacher came into class one day ,played this record and then had us write a paper with our interpretation of the lyrics. Suddenly English was my favorite class. Led Zeppelin......classic rock at it's absolute finest.
Great music and great teaching!

I've watched this clip at least a hundred times. I bought the video 35 years ago. This was Led Zeppelin at their peak power. Rock gods commanding the masses. 100,000 eyes focused on the stage, hanging on every word. There just is no other contender. Not even the stones. GOAT. They did it all.
The double neck guitar has a conventional 6 string neck, while the other neck has 12 strings. The 12 string has 6 regular string, then right beside each regular string is a very thin string. When you play it, you hit the main string and the thin string at the same time giving a chime like tone.
Hope that explains it.
The thinner string is is an octave hiigher than its sibling
Zeppelin did everything - and it was all phenominal. Every member of the band was top of their particular field. Good that you enjoyed it, welcome to the LZ appreciation society - there's hundreds of millions of us!
Zeppelin greatest band of all time💯 Zeppelin freak it's my 48years of life🤘
I didn't know that. I think I must investigate!
Bonham doesn't get enough love for being perhaps the best English drummer in known history. He's crafty, plays powerfully and fast as a bear. Just beautiful, without him, Zeppelin isn't Zeppelin hence the 1980 breakup post his death.
Asia you're laugh is utterly contagious! 😂
That guitar solo there....yeah he really went into it. He re-arranged it and added an extra few minutes onto it too.....But what is as equally impressive is the two guys playing behind him. The drummer and keyboardist- also playing the bass with his feet, totally in sync, and locked-in to that guitar. They were throwing HEAT, Jack. Hahaha

Heart sings this song live at Kennedy center for Led Zeppelin. It's AMAZING also. To see Jimmy Page shed tears is legendary!!
Jimmy page is a iconic iconic man, but that little baby groupie shit will never sit
Plant was who drops some tears.
Kashmir live from Celebration is maybe their best live performance caught on tape.
Fuck no! 1970 at the Royal Albert Hall is WAY better. Jason doesn't come close to his pops. The 1979 performance of Kashmir is also better imo, again because of John.
As one who graduated high school in 1977, I feel so privileged to have grown up during what I believe is some of the BEST Rock n Roll ever!
The 50s-70s is the best collection of music produced in world history.

Their ultimate guitar song from this same performance is "Since I've Been Loving You". It is among the best rock/blues performances you will ever see. A couple more songs that showcase their versatility and talent are "The Rain Song" and "Whole Lotta Love" also included in this concert movie. Led Zeppelin is a reaction rabbit hole, man. They don't have a bad song and each song is different.
I love that song. Both SIBLY and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You are tied for my favourite Zepp song. Both gorgeous.
You must listen to Heart honoring Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center, you will love that performance, it’s awesome.
Best version of the best rock and roll song of all time. Those of us who became adults in th 60's and 70's know exactly why. This songs crosses time and space effortlessly and ceaselessly satisfies a need built into every human brain. I think that is why some hear blues influence, some hear metal, some hear classical, others hear jazz influence. This couple heard some Southern rock and that is part of its magic.
Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitar players and John Bonham is consider one of the great drummers in history and Robert Plant The Golden God!! Every song of Led Zeppelin is like a symphony … 🎼🎸🤘
What a beautiful man he is. I was born in the right time for the best music.
It's blues-rock as done by Brits with serious talent. Tampa Stadium '73, Led Zep Rules!
Glad you enjoyed. Only 3 musicians and 1 singer. Jimmy Page playing the double neck guitar. John Paul Jones on Keyboards. John Bonham on drums. Robert Plant amazing vocals. The mighty Led Zeppelin is in the top 10 artists for albums sold in the US and worldwide. Stairway to Heaven is off their 4th studio album also...the album is in the top 10 records sold US and worldwide (RIAA documented). They only recorded 8 studio albums before the drummer passed. That's an average of 15 million collections sold per album (US sales...worldwide much higher). Quite impressive. Keep rockin'! Gerard.

So many junior senior dances, proms back in the day had “stairway to heaven” as the theme.. “dancing in the moonlight” was another one.
The duel guitar...The top one is a 12 string and the bottom one is a standard 6 string. this song by Led Zeppelin was first released in 1971 in the UK, making it 50 years ago.
It's been said by the drummer, John Bonham, people went to "see the Beatles", with Zeppelin, people came to "hear the music."
I love "When The Levee Breaks", with it's dark and bluesy harmonica, other great bands from this era are Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, The Doors etc.
'When the Levee Breaks' was originally written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929 about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.

Led Zeppelin, Queen and Deep purple.
Led zeppelin were heavily influenced by blues, so you’re entirely right about their sound.
That song has 3 levels first part it's medieval feel, second part it's a folk feel, third is rock feel. Jimmy Page is so creative, that is how he versioned this song when he writing the music. Robert Plant wrote the lyric and the rest is history. That rabbit hole is deep but well worth it. #HOG
The band that changed music forever.
You have to see Heart tribute to them, is amazing.
The singer of Led Zeppelin is absolute coolness. Really a child of the 70's. He's allowed to put himself on TV like this. A song for eternity. And Asia, you are a girl ... 😉
For most bands that performance alone would be an entire career!!!
I was fortunate enough to have seen them live several times in the 70's. This is their most well known hit. They have a long list of hits, you should definitely check out " Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta love". Back in the day the girls went wild over Robert Plant, and he played along. This was from there movie that made. . If I'm not mistaken was called the song remains the same. Back then it was really special to Led zeppelin fans who didn't get the opportunity to see them in person. The greatest band to ever grace the stage. They where then ,they are today and will forever be tomorrow. There are no bad Led Zeppelin songs only timeless masterpieces. My suggestion would be to start at the beginning with Led Zeppelin I, side 1 then side 2 .Each sound is different and the way Jimmy Page produced the records each song flows into be the next. If you want to skip around then I would suggest "The Sound Remains the Same/The Rain Song" and "Since I've been Loving you" both live 1973 at Madison Square Garden. Then do "In my Time of Dying" 1975 and "Going to California" both live 1975 At Earls Court. Like I said there are no bad Zeppelin songs.
