First Impressions of India - Comparing Old and New Delhi // India Travel Vlog

- We made it to India!! Come with us as we explore Old and New Delhi during as we develop our first impressions of India. In this video we really wanted to show the multiple faces of Delhi; a city most commonly known to the Western World as a place of noise, dirt, and poverty. And while that can all be found here, New Delhi and Cyber City showed us that the opposite things can be found here too: quiet, cleanliness, and wealth. There is so much to discover in Delhi!
If you are visiting Delhi soon or this is your first time in Delhi as well, then this video will also help you plan your time in this giant city! To really develop our first impressions of India, we wanted to explore as much of Delhi as we could (without overloading this vlog too much!). Over the course of a couple days (thanks rain), we were able to see India Gate, Delhi's Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid Mosque, Connaught Place, Cyber City and Cyber Hub (which are just outside of Delhi in an area called Gurugram), and of course we rode the top-notch Delhi Metro!
Delhi is a huge city, and the two areas we were primarily in for this video are called Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is the oldest part of the city and was originally built during the Moghuls. There are incredible pieces of history in Old Delhi and the infamous Chandni Chowk is here. Chandni Chowk is an area well known for being home to many, many shops and residences packed tightly together. Because it was built before cars were invented, the roads are more like small alleyways. There is never a dull moment here! New Delhi was designed by the British during colonial times and tends to attract high-end restaurants, hotels, and shops.
It is very common for travelers to make Delhi the first stop on their visit to India because it is part of the Golden Triangle in India. The Golden Triangle is made up of Delhi, Agra (where the Taj Mahal is), and Jaipur (commonly called the Pink City). For tourists who are short on time, visiting the three cities in the Golden Triangle is a great way to get a small peak into what India is like! Like so many others, Delhi was our first stop in this new country and was a great place to make our first impressions of India!

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico, full-time travel vloggers searching for adventures all around the globe. In March 2021 we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and hopped on our first ever one-way flight leaving our home country #Canada. We believe #travel builds understanding that reaches across culture, language, and boundaries, and we want to share our experiences as we create connections all over the world. If you like learning about unique places, new cultures and different foods, then come follow our adventure as we explore all our beautiful planet has to offer.
You often see tourists lining up to take pictures of the locals, but you don’t often see the locals lining up to take pictures of the tourists. 😊
Yes! It really took us by surprise when it started happening 😂
@@nicoleandmico you are now celebrity in a india. 🤣🤣🤣 in India we say guest is God. Also ready for lots of subscribers and views.Happy diwali and good luck..
@@nicoleandmico definitely visit tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh... beautiful landscapes and temple's which are more than 2000 years old
@@nicoleandmico Indians love taking photos with foreigners specially tall Nigerians because they look like basketball players 🤣
Us Indians r really funny in a way....😁😁
In India 95% of the people taking photos with you are mostly Tourists themselves (From other states/villages of India). They had never seen any foreigner in their life and may not see in future. They are just fascinated to see how differently beautiful people are around the world. Citizens of Big Cities like Delhi Mumbai etc rearly do that because it's common for them.
It was really nice watching your Videos.
Enjoy you Trip 😊🇮🇳
O ok so Delhi gets many visitors I didn't know that
@@proudAmerican-rr2mh what? When?
@@proudAmerican-rr2mh Its like New York. You get tons of foriegn and local indian tourists.
go singapore hawker centre , cafes and resturant
@rahulsharma Tourists have been coming to delhi since past 70 years. At all times it is over crowded with foreigners.
Chandni chowk is a wholesale market. And the oldest residential area.
Many ppl don't like foreigners. Because they come with cameras and don't take permission to film. Indians are wary of getting into the camera because they know that these vdo is going to be uploaded, judged criticised and ultimately can hamper their business. That's why they are suspicious of camera weilding foreigners and try to avoid them
Some kids or other ppl also try tease, flock, harass the foreigners to pull their leg.
Btw the shops in old Delhi (Chandi Chawk) are some of the most expensive real estates in the world. those small small shops are worth million dollars. And the shopkeepers there are one of the richest. most of them are millionaires because products and spices everything is exported to the world, and distributed to most of India from there.
That's amazing! We had a feeling these shops were high value but didn't realize they were quite that expensive!
@@nicoleandmico Old Dehli are where people from small villages come to the city for work and throw up shakes as temporary places to stay while they work to send home money for their families some people really get the wrong impression about India by this.
go singapore hawker centre , cafes and resturants , singapore best country they have chinese , malay , indian , korean , japanese , western , italian food
Exactly. Its a wholesale market... they trade in crores in a day.
That's why many of them hate foreigners with camera... because many foreigners put up the shop names or area / locality up on social media and attracts lot of negative comments. Which in turn hampers their business...
These days the traders are disinterested in the foreign vloggers. A lot of negative publicity has pissed them off
I am from South India and Enjoyed how Diwali is Celebrated in Mumbai. Thanks for capturing the Vibe !!!🤩

I like the way you make your videos quite informative and useful for other tourists than just randomly vlogging at tourists places like other vlogging channels do. Best of luck in India 🇮🇳

Hi Nicole and Mico, thanks so much for these videos on India. This video just relieved a ton of my worry about traveling to Delhi for the first time. I cannot thank you enough. As a fellow Canadian, I was blown away that you found a Tim Horton's! Amazing.
So glad you found it helpful! I'm sure you will have an awesome time in Delhi. Our advice would just to be brace for it a bit and lean into it! We definitely felt overwhelmed, but in the good "we love travel, and this is definitely travel" kind of way!
Welcome to India. Great energy and approach to the video. Let us know where you would be travelling next so we can offer suggestions.
Thanks so much for the positive comment! Our videos are a few weeks behind so we've had a chance to see a few places in India so far. Do you have any suggestions for South Goa?

the shops in that alleys are far more richer than they seem 😀
Like they yearly income of the shops of Chandni chowk may vary from 400K $ to 2mil$ yearly.
I live in Noida near Delhi and go often Delhi but never seen like this narrow streets even I have visited Chandni Chowk but like this streets will be few but these are old but memorable and you will feel that you are in India.....😘
Wow. Thank you for showing the newer side of Delhi. You're right; we've seen a lot of videos with chaotic markets, which are interesting. However, we rarely see the beautiful modern part.
We are so glad we are able to share both sides with you! We have learned there is just so much diversity in Delhi (and the rest of India) and are doing our best to experience it as much as we can 🙂
@@nicoleandmicoYes India is the most diverse country in the world. It has two sides . One is modern, beautiful, clean, developed and other side is dirty and poverty stricken. I am glad that you showed the first side as well unlike many foreigners that do vlogging in India.❤

It looked like Mico went in for a hug when he got the wrap put on LOL YAY Timmies great vlog guys...thanks for showing us both sides
For my India dostos(friends): Why is it called a tuk-tuk?
Thailand. The auto-rickshaw, called tuk-tuk (Thai: ตุ๊ก ๆ, pronounced [túk túk]) in Thailand, is a widely used form of urban transport in Bangkok and other Thai cities. The name is onomatopoeic, mimicking the sound of a small (often two-cycle) engine. Americans have adopted this way of describing the "Auto".
In Delhi we call them batteries for some reason 😂😂😂

India is a continent in itself it's so hard to see everything but yaa good luck 🙂
Please visit Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves in Maharashtra India. It's considered greatest architecture in history of mankind, because the way it was built seems unbelievable for even today’s time. The temple was built at least 1300 years ago. No stone or nothing was added they carved a mammoth Granite rock/mountain with intricate details. The Kailasa Temple is notable for its vertical excavation-carvers started at the top of the original rock and excavated downward. At least 400000 tonnes of stones have been removed in the process. About 7000 workers and their future generations worked for 135 years. One small mistake and you have to rebuild the whole temple because it's carved into the rock without adding anything, that too up to down.
It has secret underground tunnels believed to be leading to underground city which is even more mysterious and government have totally locked that down and no researchers are allowed to go inside.
During the reign of Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, the temple was ordered to be demolished along with other temples nationwide.
For the task in 1682 he sent over 1000 labourers especially to destroy Kailasa Temple; they worked for over 3 years, but could barely manage to disfigure a few statues here and there. It's the solid granite rock that's made so hard to destroy.
Despite of his repeated efforts to tear down Kailasa Temple, Aurangzeb did not found success. Finally he gave up on destroying this temple. This is the same person who has destroyed thousands of ancient temples in India but he could not destroy this one so you can understand the the magnanimity of the temple.
other than Kailasa Temple there are 99 other cave temples there (100 total) of which 34 are open for public viewing. whole temple complex known at Ellora Caves.
This is our beautiful India ❤️

How do you pick your accommodations when you visit a new country like India? And when you stay for a longer amount of time, do you stay at multiple places or book one place for an extended duration?
Hey there! We use booking.com a lot here in India, but we also use Air BnB quite a bit around the world. We have found Air BnB isn't very developed here in India, so we are using booking.com a lot. We typically try to stay in one accommodation for each new city/town we visit as moving around every couple of days is really exhausting when traveling for extended periods of time. We stay in each location an average of about 5 days (Delhi was an outlier though - we were there for 2 weeks)!
